Native Peoples were always put in such a savage light. Soon Hollywood directors could find no Native to fill the roles and began using Whites and Hispanics to fill the "Tribes". Just lost my huge exhortation on my personal discovery that what public schools teach about Native America is well beyond lacking and only preaches about wars between the Native Peoples and the Americans. It was the Boy Scouts of America that opened my eyes to the reality that American children are being taught nothing about the Native Peoples of this land. There is more emphasis on Slavery and Black History than there is Native America. Now, they are altering it again to reflect mostly Spanish narrative which furthers the derision of Native America. I later find out that my maternal Grandmother's Grandmother was full blooded Native, most likely Choctaw. Family research only has her as Native but no Tribe. This furthered my need to discover more about Native Peoples and the thin connection that I have with them. We have to stand up to these School Boards and demand that they address the grievances of the lack of Native American history, culture, and heritage. There is more to the Native Peoples than just Army Scouts and Indian Wars.
