    Great video, thanks guys! There's a guy in Scottsdale, AZ that supposedly makes really good reman'ed gear boxes.. Pat at Benchwork Steering Systems. Rebuilt one is $200 with core for the original 16:1 ratio, and $400 for a tighter turning 14:1 ratio. Can't wait to see next week's video!

    Yes, Redhead Steering Gears is their name. They don't just reseal a box like what you'd get at the auto supply; they totally remanufacture them with many new components. I've heard really good things about them on the bumpside and dentside forums. I haven't swapped to one of their boxes yet, but it's on my wishlist for my '69 F100. The parts house '73 P/S box I have in it now has some play; I'm thinking their box will be tighter.

      This is why we like doing these videos. folks give us awesome tips to add to what we already are doing. Thanks for the heads up! We might do something to the box when we try and make the F100 handle like a 93-95 Lightning.

      AutoRestoMod Muscle Car Resto and Modifications I enjoy watching the shows y'all make. In fact, I studied your episodes on setting up the Ford 9", and then installed my 4.56 gears and Eaton TrueTrac in my F100. That was my first gear install, and they're perfect.
      It's funny that you mention Lightnings; that was my inspiration in building my '69, thinking "If Ford built a '69 Lightning, what would it be like?" My truck is a 93,000 mile barn find ex-farmtruck, so I had a good starting point. I lowered it with DJM beams and Shackle & Hanger Kit, added '73 power disc brakes and '73 power steering, then built a nice 351C and added a Tremec TKO-600. I also installed JDM Engineering 58" traction bars for the Ford Lightnings; they fit right on these trucks. It's a fun truck, and was built on a regular working-man's budget.

    Hey guys, just replaced the Bendix unit in my 68 F-100 - your video was very helpful. Used the truck today and the steering worked great...but not at idle. I'm hoping it needs a little more bleeding but if not, time for a new power steering pump. The pump doesn't make noise and seemed okay to me, but the car gods are punishing me for not replacing it while it was out. It's the pump that has the reservoir on it with a skinny pokey tube coming out of it (in other words not sure of the make). Anyway that's my story.

    • @AutoRestoMod
      @AutoRestoMod  Před 5 lety

      Do some lock to lock rotations, check fluid and let us know. If it is hard at idle, it could be a loose belt too.

    Maybe the guy who put much of that stuff together thought he had everything good 'n tight, but didn't, because he has little noodle arms...not "the biceps of a god" like Cam. Also, I agree with Car Maniac's comment on "those silly gloves". If you don't bleed at some point you're not trying hard enough!

    Im working on a 79 F100 I would like to know which or how far up in late model fords I can interchange my Steering system with (Column, Box and Steering wheel). The steering system will be bolted on to a 300 I6. The truck is 2WD. Would a tilt wheel work with the Current steering box that I have now? Just looking for answers thank you kindly! Also it is a Automatic on the column.

      Ford changed a good bit in 1980. I might look backwards or at your year model. There are a good many trucks available on the market.

    Personally, I only have two issues with that style of power steering pump mount: 1. Why isn't the alternator on one of those things too? 2. GM, Mopar, seriously - why didn't you rip this off?
    Seriously, it is such a brain dead simple system, retensioning is a breeze, and it is big enough to give you a ton of belt life - whatever the belt can take. I'm mostly a GM guy normally, but there are sure things I love about my fords, and this is one of them.

    I put a new steering gear in my truck, new lines hi and low, plus pump. Filled it with redline synthetic ps fluid and in wines 🍷 whines. Lol ok i checked for leaks nothing not a drop. I jack the truck up and turned left to right a couple hundred times and still whines I guess this is it ?

    • @AutoRestoMod

      Use Type F fluid.

    • @fordinlinestraight
      @fordinlinestraight Před 3 lety

      The noise went awayafter I bleed it a bit more! I'm awhere of the type f! I was in a delema decided what fluid to use it was a toss up because the gear box I put in was braand new meaning not a ford box however the pump was a reman as they all are so I wanted to keep my pump happy but also put the best fluid in the new gearbox. Thankfully the whine went away so I'm guessing I just needed a day to break in. If you were in this situation what would you use? The type f fluid or synthetic? Cheers and I like the show.
