To everyone who says it's not a sport:
    1) Why do synchronized swimmers on average train more than people in any other sport?
    2) Why do I have visibly toned abs, quads and deltoids, despite being female?
    3) Can you swim several lengths of an olympic sized pool without breathing?
    4) Touching the bottom/walls in this sport is not permissible. So let's see you go tread water while throwing another person.
    5) If it isn't vigorous, why aren't YOU an olympian?
    6) Try it.

I swam synchronized swimming for 7 years, and in my final year, swimming at a level nowhere near what these girls do, I was training 30 hours a week, I was in the water 4 days a week, and I was in high school so there were periods where I never got a chance to sleep in. We'd spend about an hour on land doing flexibility and core strength, then be in the pool for 2 more hours, either practicing the routine, or training our lung capacity with unders (swimming from one end of the pool to the other (at my level max 1 breath)) in a 25 metre pool, and various other laps of butterfly, back crawl, breast stroke, front crawl, and so many more. It was honestly the toughest workout I've ever done. I always show some of the best routines I've ever seen on youtube to non-believers, and when they see the kind of tricks people can pull off in the water, they become believers. It's one thing to do laps back and forth of front crawl, but try what they're doing. I miss swimming it every day.

People say thay swimming is the hardest sport and I'm a swimmer. But synchronized swimming seems harder than swimming. Combination of swimming, apne and just kicking just seems.... exhausting. I don't know how you do it but it looks hard for a typical swimmer.

My team did a lot of what we called “over unders” which were a regular freestyle lap followed by another, except no breathing except for the one before you kick off. Strong lungs let you do longer combinations of upside down kicking.

I'm a synchro swimmer that's going to retire soon, even though I'm only 15. I would love to continue but I can't stand my coach's attitude anymore. Yes, she is a good coach in the sense that she knows how to teach the techniques properly, but she treats her students like trash and I'm sick of it. It's humiliating and demoralising when your coach yells loud enough that everyone else nearby knows that she's calling you an idiot for making a mistake. Yes I understand I messed up, but I'm not perfect, I can't even say I'm good at it. I've been in this sport competitively for almost 7 years now, and I'm going to say goodbye to it soon.
