Wear blocks replacement on a Wrangler Transporter Jerr-Dan aluminum bed

  • I have an old 1994 Chevy 3500HD with an equally old Jerr-Dan bed. These old beds are not supported any longer, especially when you no longer have the data plate. I contacted Jerr-Dan and they said without the serial number or model number there is nothing they can do. So I will make my own.

    Hi Wyatt! I believe you can fix anything. I have my car in the shop, it’s making a whining noise when I turn my steering wheel. Not leaking steering fluid or any pin holes in the high pressure hose, so had to put it in the shop to get fixed. I’m stuck until it gets fixed. I loaned my truck and when I got it back I think it has a blown head gasket now. I’m just not able to do that anymore. Glad you got your transporter is fixed. Have a blessed day!

    I think that drill bit is a Forstner drill bit. I'm like you when it comes to things looking right, but in the end no one will see it, even if you point it out they won't care. Sometimes I wish I wasn't so much a perfectionist. I am learning as I get older that nothing is perfect and never will be. I still try to make it perfect. That is really a neat truck, I wish I had one like that to transport my tractor around.

    Nicely done. I kinda like the nut and bolt setup they fabbed up.
    I probably would have gone right through and put the nut on the bottom, but they probably wanted to keep from crushing the square tubing if they cranked it too much.
    I’m surprised that they don’t offer poly runners of some kind.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  Před 2 lety +1

      I was hoping to get the correct parts but Jerr-Dan doesn't support this old bed any longer. It's kind of sad, but I get it. You have to support the product that is making the company money. I feel badly for those who are not mechanically inclined or have the hardware you and I (and Brad) have saved up.

    • @JimsEquipmentShed
      @JimsEquipmentShed Před 2 lety +1

      @@wyattoneable You would think that they would just have a generic solution for everything in that weight range.
      But I guess after that long, the liability issue probably keeps them from a more active roll in post purchase maintenance parts on the older ones.

  • @SmittySmithsonite
    @SmittySmithsonite Před 2 lety +1

    I'm the same, Wyatt - if it works, I don't much care how, lol. I also like to feel fasteners rather than rely on the ugga-dugga gun. I've had them so loose it scared me when I thought I had overtightnend them, while having others that felt fine but just about yanked the threads right out of the hole in the past. Don't know if it's my air pressure, gun, or I just lack the feel with it, but from now on I always follow through by hand unless it's a non-mission critical fastener, like a metal or plastic cover for something.
    That was a nice bit you had there. I don't even own a drill press! I really should get one. I have a tiny assortment of hole saws - I usually use those for similar work.

    • @wyattoneable
      @wyattoneable  Před 2 lety +1

      It's all covered up anyway and everything is working great. If I had the experience that Eric has I'd use the gun to tighten things down but I don't trust myself. I love my drill press. It's great for making repeated holes and more accurate than my wiggly arms. :)
