Ol blue eyes wasn't the best person to be around back in the day ..he drank he smoked and was just mean . He was a very rough person but back in those days that's the way men were supposed to be and that's why he said once is enough ..his later years he asked his family for forgiveness of being who he was and the family accepted it cause ts who he was and he gave them a great life even though he didn't think so

Before my Dad died, we sang this together. It was our theme song as we grew older. He passed at 94-years-young, I was 64. I also played "Fantasy" by Earth, Wind and Fire for him. The music lives as he lives in my heart.

@Paula, Now you made me think about my grandpa. This is what happened to me when my grandpa died, some hours later,after my grandpa died. Never will forget this. Went to the bar that night to have a few drinks, and to think about the funeral arrangements and my grandpa while growing up, working in the garden with him, watching Tv like the old Bonnie and Clyde and gangster movie's with him, and with my siblings, etc...And that night they had karaoke at the bar and that night someone sang Grandpa from the Judd's.

If you read the authorized Sinatra biography: He was sick of the song at this point but had to perform it due to the importance to the audience. This concert was one of his come-backs, possibly the greatest.
So yes, he was making fun of the importance others attached to the song. BTW, he never repeated the comment as he was vilified in the press for comparing the song to our national anthem. Goes to show the intelligence of entertainment reporters at the time. No wonder Frank had a problem restraining himself from punching them...
All that said, it's my third favorite Sinatra song.

Everytime she would try to leave I would stir and move around. My mother is still alive but my father died a few week before my birth. I live with my mom and my stepdad who I consider my father. My sister purchased tickets for this show for my beloved Mom and Dad. They took the train from upstate ny to the city. This song had my dad just about bawling. It was near the end of his life, and I still thank my sister Kate today for doing this for my dad. This guy was his absolute favorite.

Grandfather used to listen to this song months before he passed away, dad showed me this song a few months ago and he's 70. This song for some reason kind of allows me to understand their lives and I plan to show this to my son the day I realize the same thing my father and grandfather have... I would only do that if I knew what I knew now. There were a lot of things I went through I would not want to repeat. Not everyone had a great experience growing up. Sometimes the past is better left in the past. CZcams brings the past to us for a brief moment and that is enough for me.
