Transformers dont convert AC to DC all it does is either step up or step down the voltage etc. An inverter is used to convert DC to AC
The battery would give out dc but a transformer can not change the dc voltage so it would use a inverter to change the dc to ac then the transformer would step up the voltage

This is the first time I've been disappointed with a teardown from him.
The biggest interest most of us needs would have on a battery bank is the brand and model of Lithium ion cells they're using in this.

Aukey sells a 30,000mah power bank for $38 or $60 for one with quick charge 3.0. No wall socket or cigarette lighter but still high capacity for a fraction of the cost.

Anker makes so many great products and this power bank is no different. Really awesome to have for times when the power is out in the house or take with you on a trip. Would love one but just to pricey for what little I'd be using it. Nice to see how it's made.
Great video, but doesn't a transformer actually just increase or decrease the voltage and current? In this case, isn't it a power inverter that converts the DC battery current to AC?

Personally if i'm going to go camping and need a lot of power i'll just bring my regular ol 100 dollar lead acid power bank with the same capacity and features including an air compressor and spotlight , only weighs twice as much but it costs 1/5 the price
Lithium Ion are ridiculously expensive , like a minimum of $150 just to replace those 36 batteries after they lose 25% of their capacity after 100-150 charges which could be less than a year for some people, I use those batteries in my vape and they do not survive more than 3 months with daily use
@@uploaded113redone not if you charge them properly. If you charge them up to 80% every time they will last you for many, many years. Tested it myself. And for most people 80% of 430 watt\hours is more than enough
Actually transformers don't convert dc to ac afaik. But applying currently to half of it then the other half in the opposite direction makes ac on the other end!

yes it's a 2000$ car battery with usb holes. Something you can make at home, 10 times safer, for just 25$. the 220v/120v "inverter" will set you back 100$.

The transformer does NOT convert AC to DC. An inverter does.
An inverter converts dc to ac, a FULL BRIDGE RECTIFIER converts ac to dc

The transformer does not convert DC to AC , that is the job of the inverter and the transformer is a part of the inverter circuits.

120,000 mAh might be slightly exaggerated.. even if every 18650 battery is 3000 mAh, one of the highest capacities on the market from Samsung 30Q batteries, we have 108,000 mAh. A more typical 18650, the Samsung 25R has a capacity of 2500 mAh, bringing the likely capacity of this device to only 90,000 mAh. This is sizable sure, but manufacturers are well known to highly exaggerate their battery ratings, especially in the vaping market. Calling Battery Mooch to this problem!
Well 3400mah panasonic cells have been around for years now and I forgot what cells they were and the brand but there are now 3600mah cells out there, so it may be expensive but it's entirely possible for it to have that capacity.
Watt hours are the ones I usually check. Since I dont know what voltage is used for the mAH rating
Actually it is worst. Apparently this is 3s12p, so if the cells are 3600mA the pack is 43200mA
Last two comments say it all...😍 Manufacturers use mah rating to deceive unsuspecting buyers, claiming superhigh mah rating but not stating at what voltage.
3000 mah is the most common 18650 battery on the market, i can't even find anything less than 3000 in my local shops so i'm not sure why it's so hard to believe a company can afford a couple hundred thousand batteries to throw in their battery banks
I would actually have to go to page 2 on amazon to find a 2500mah battery and some of them are 5000mah or 6000mah
Power house had a good inverter tho... It must be square wave by the look of the circuit and running at higher frequency than normal outlet (probably 300hz to keep better efficiency and small size..)

Protip - if you wan't such powerbank, you'll be better off making one yourself or getting someone to do it.
Lithium-ion cells got so cheap, that making one with >400Wh capacity and proper DC-AC and DC-DC converters will cost you like quarter of the price.
Quick calculation:
Liitokala 21700 battery with 4Ah capacity (real) costs around 3,2$.
3,2$ * 30 = 96$.
4Ah*3,7V*30 = 444 Wh (10% more than Anker).

Pricey and probably a bit larger than necessary. They could have removed the AC outlet for smaller dimensions as there are plenty of cheap and compact inverters out there.

It’s not just about the wattage, most of these inverters output modified sine wave not pure and motors doesn’t work with modified sine wave only on pure sine wave.

transformer is used to increase or reduce voltage by decreasing or increasing current!! they work on the principle of induction!! same as wireless charging!
So looking at the battery it's a 4s9p configuration using 3300mah cells. So in 9p thats only 29.7ah or 29700mah. They’re just multiplying 29700 x 4 and averaging it out to 120000mah. That’s dodgy. So basically this is a 12v (ish) 30Ah battery bank.

the ac is modified sine wave inverter so it will not drive AC motor like the heat gun very well, even if you turn off the heating element.

Actually transformer increases the voltage. The only thing that converts DC to AC is inverter.

transformer doesn't convert DC to AC.. neither AC to DC.. it only step up/step down the voltage level(AC - AC only) . the AC to DC conversion is done using rectifier, and the DC to AC conversion is done using chopper circuit..

Hey, great vid, but the info on AC is incorrect. A Inverter is the unit that converts from DC to AC. The transformer is the unit that increases the voltage after it has been converted to AC

A Transformer steps up or down the voltage in order for it to work it has to be alternating current(AC) an inverter converts Direct current(DC) in to AC so the inverter Takes the DC battery power and converts it to AC which can then get stepped up to 110 volts with the transformer ofc you will higher current on the battery side. For example if I had a 12 volt battery and Hooked up an inverter and made AC the transformer could make 120 volts AC. If I was using 1 amp at 120 volts AC the battery side would be using 10 amps because the voltage is 10 times higher on the AC so the current is 10 times lower on the AC with the same battery current the transformer does NOT convert DC to AC just steps up and down the voltage and a rectifier converts AC to DC

transformer cant convert DC into AC.... the ckt needed to do that is alternator ckt.. which can convert dc into ac :)
duudee!! transformer is used for changing voltages!! rectifiers r used for ac dc conversion! but yeah, they r a lil inefficient!! even the best rectifiers have an efficiency of only 85-90% (i guess)!!
