Thing is, they’re not being sold as, or weren’t being sold as, functional quality boots, they were sold to people buying for fashion, knowing full well they were fashion focused.
That is a slight saving grace. If they were being marketed as hard core boots with fashionable designs, then there would be so much wrong with this. They aren’t for me, but they aren’t deceptive like stuff like the Carhart work boots

Adidas and Nike mass-produce low-quality sneakers. It's because the lower the unit price, the more money it makes. acg or terex are a little good in quality, but the price is unreasonable

The longer you spend in enthusiast circles the more you realize how much power marketing has over people. As a snob for video games, various forms of tech etc., and who also enjoys enthusiast channels such as this one, I’ve seen people spend extra for just a brand name. Quality products with high quality construction, workmanship and materials are often ignored for something bad to mediocre that spent the extra on commercials and endorsements. Ironically when you talk to the average person or hypebeast they’ll deny that marketing works on them. Sometimes it’s the enthusiasts who fall for it, or the enthusiasts are the ones who teach you these facts if they know the intricacies of the thing they care about a lot.
@@TotallyNotKanye Generalizations can be correct, by the way you criticized me for them and then you went on to do it yourself. Regardless, I didn’t go far enough. Remember how the phrase “you’re not immune to propaganda” was being repeated a couple of years ago? It was also used in the context of consumerism, the truth is nobody is immune to marketing. The way it works is more insidious than the straightforward messages commercials push, I can elaborate if necessary.
I did say there are different kinds of enthusiasts, wasn’t sure what to call the Rose Anvil type enthusiasts (which I consider myself to be part of). Guess I’ll go with pragmatic enthusiasts. Yes the pragmatic car enthusiasts that “criticize everything” will still have automobiles that are closest to their ideals, assuming their critiques aren’t in bad faith. The pragmatic enthusiasts may sound unappeasable, however there’s a fine line between them and perfectionists. I really wish folks wouldn’t get them confused, individuals like Rose Anvil make great points about choosing for practicality instead of dumb things such as vanity or branding. Doing it the pragmatic enthusiast way can be more cost effective too and that includes luxury goods. I don’t think designer brands are necessarily better built, Rose Anvil has demonstrated it in his reviews of designer footwear.
My goal isn’t to mix categories, it’s to try to define them. Underneath the specifics of what they’re into enthusiasts’ mindset and mannerisms are similar (not 100% identical of course), the biggest differentiator isn’t whether they’re into PC peripherals or clothing it’s what kind of snob they are. Brand snobs will often go for and glorify brand names to the surprise of no one, price snobs will go for the cheapest thing or the one that will last them the longest provided it’s cost effective.

Tbh try to find a lightly worn pair, the prices drop hella compared to the DS pairs. Just make sure they have little to no heel drag. I got lucky on my Choc 750s and sniped a worn 2x pair for close to retail a while back. I've worn mine around 6x and the outsoles still look new after cleaning them, so if they have some nasty heel drag I'd avoid them. Also if you have some wide feet I'd avoid going half size down, I can see the strap being annoying for a wide footer.

I have an onitsuka rinkan boot which is super weird and I'd love to see it dissected.
It's a fashion first boot that's an actual boot. It has a tough heel counter, actual lugged soles, tough suede leather reinforcement and sturdy nylon everywhere else. BUT it has a narrow toe reminiscent of formal dress shoes and a super sleek silhouette.

You should review the actual yeezy season boots to compare. These are the adidas sneakers if anything.
I think that the reason some of these are so low quality in terms of material is because of Adidas. I think adidas wanted to keep things as cheap as possible to make, so they cut corners. I feel like Kanye’s boots would have more quality materials if he himself got full design freedom and full choice on the materials and build of them.
Just ordered the White’s Perry Select the other day after binge watching your channel. Those Yeezy’s look like a couch cushion you’d find in a dumpster somewhere comparatively lol.

I could see all the things you pointed out because all 3 boots were produced by adidas. I would love to compare between those and a lets say season 3 military boot burnt sienna or onyx.
You should also check for the Yeezy season 5 military boots they weren’t manufactured under adidas but were produced in Italy I had the brown pair sold to a guy in Hawaii 🤣

you should look into some of the 'yeezy season' boots because theyre made by Ye's company outside of adidas factories and have way better quality. yeezy season 5 boots or 6 are the best:)

Yeezy has never been an actual “high-end” brand. They only sell mid-tier products for high prices, so the brand is usually regarded as an expensive streetwear project. I’d like to see you cut open other products from YZY (like their Season 3 military boots), and older pieces from actual “luxury” fashion houses (like the Dior AW07 “Navigate” combat boots - regarded as the grandfather of all modern fashion combat boots design - and it’ll be great to see how they were constructed).

If I was already crazy rich like that, I'd probably focus on spreading my name with incredible price/quality products at various ranges. Get a good reputation and as many people spreading it as possible, while doing something you're passionate about and putting something very positive into the world. I kinda hate that the standard celeb product formula seems to just inflate the price of a mostly mundane product, but at least Kanye's products are good in some ways and have novel designs. Still inflated, of course, gotta make it a superficial status symbol, I guess. The silly thing is he COULD back up these prices when it comes to footwear, without needing insane craftmanship/materials, and he doesn't even have to go the Gucci packaging route.

I agree, a trick to timberland boots is to buy half a size bigger and use a pair of more comfortable soles (thicker and more foaming material soles) in the shoes - it solves the problem for me, plus I get them on clearance or thrift stores in brand new or near brand new condition.

One thing you should do is compare the Desert Boot to the Yeezy Season 7 boot because the season 7 boot is the original and they re-released it under it's own name (with less quality most likely). But in the same vain, you can check out the other season boots; season 4 Combat Boot, season 6 Military Boot, season 5 Military Boot, season 6 Chelsey Boot, season 6 Combat Boot. Just some thoughts/options ❤❤
No one buys Yeezy expecting hard-working boots. You don’t go hiking in the desert during rain season with them. You wear them on the streets in the city on clear sunny days, or indoors at events. For the purposes they’re intended for, they’re perfect. Have you seen Balenciaga recently? 😂

Back in the day I made a range of hand made leather items, strange for someone who was a vegan at the time. I learnt to appreciate well made leather items using top quality leather and from that perspective I look at these "boots" and think they have poor design aspects and the prices are strictly in the fashion pricing range - overpriced for the build and materials used.
