Georges Brassens La Prière The Prayer French & English Subtitles

La Prière was recorded by Brassens on the album "Chanson Pour l"Auvergnat" in 1955. He used he same melody for " Il N'Ya Pas d'Amour Heureux" a poem by the communist poet Louis Aragon. Catholic poet Francis Jammes was the original author of Georges Brassens's song La Prière ("The Prayer"). The lyrics were taken from the poem Les Mystères Douloureux ("The Agonies of Christ") published in the collection L'Église habillée de feuilles (The Church Clothed in Leaves") (1906); Brassens changed some of the words to make the text more rhythmic.

There are two parts to this song, the first part is "negative", the other one
is "positive". The first part shows a kind anger that we all feel : why does the Lord send us so much misery, so much suffering, although He has all the power to create peace and love on Earth. So, for all our suffering, thank you Lord : it's anger,it's a bit sarcastic.
The second part is the explanation, the Lord is here, inside the good things, inside the simple things like real love - the way to follow has been shown, the solution has been explained, and the freedom to choose has been given to mankind (Love can't be declared by force, it would not be love ).
In summation, it's a positive christian song.
