  • Tennessee is closer to being one of more than 25 that allows teachers to carry gun at schools, with certain required permissions. If the law is signed by Governor Bill Lee, here’s what that will mean for schools in East Tennessee.

This is how we can protect schools. It should have been done years ago. It shouldn't even be an issue.

Multiple states have allowed teachers to CCW for years. How many incidents have there been regarding a CCW in a school?
    None. Check the CPRC data.

No one needs permission... bearing arms is a fundamental RIGHT here, in this country. Oathbreakers be warned.

I'm a teacher and I have a concealed carry license...if you are well trained...you know not to use it unless absolutely necessary and for the majority of us .. that's never...I also go monthly to the range to keep my skill level up...I would go more but ammo prices are out of control.

This is a significant freedom gain/restoration and we should appreciate the progress made - large or small.

That’s great. It’ll make people think twice before showing up and trying to harm kids and faculty

They need to pass a law that politicians and their family members are not allowed to have tax payer paid security of any type.

As usual, this country is a complete and utter joke.
Always reminds me of that Onion article: “Completely unavoidable”, says only country where this regularly happens.

The requirements he’s reading off is for an officer minus the physical or maybe that to ?
The second amendment alone!! Should give teachers the right to conceal carry and notice to the parents of the teachers that are participating.
Teachers could bare arms 1791 .

What worries me more is a kid getting hold of it because of staff carelessness…all it takes is one fuck up…or one too many budget cuts to training…at first everyone will do their best to be diligent…but five or ten years from now, some teacher will leave a pistol loaded in an open drawer when too tired from 40 kids crammed in a class…and the class psycho will get a hold of it…and then you’ll be offering thoughts and prayers…this is a recipe for disaster. How about paying a real police officer or two, with proper training to patrol the school…every school having a school resource officer…it’s worth it.

At the end where he suggested keeping the kids in line by brandishing a gun. Ahh what? Are they going to school in old time saloons?

It’s just an idiotic statement they made trying to fear monger. The bottom line they want division they want one side versus the other to take the pressure off of them. Guns deter crime. Everyone should possess a legal firearm.

those were the dumbest arguments ive ever heard. yes you meet the lehal threat with with lethal force(judged by 12 than carried by 6), yes you engage the shooter(thats why you got the permission to carry in school right?,right?...) if a teacher is dumb enough to flash the piece because of some kids being stupid then guess what happens, they lose their gun just like any other idiot who brandishes in public.

It’s not a problem if that sidearm is only drawn in defense of the class in the event some wacko with an AR come to school firing away. Cops can’t defend. They show up after the fact and fill out crime reports.

Being armed is a natural right. Requiring someone to ask permission from their enemies is unnatural and should never be done.

If the teacher is a law abiding citizen and willing to learn how to handle a firearm safely if they don’t already know how to I don’t see a problem with it

I taught in a juvenile detention school. Even police had to check their gun before they were allowed through the gate. They thought of something this ill-considered voting decision. The thing to be worried about is kids ganging up on a teacher carrying a gun. It is easy to think one kid would have a hard time disarming one teacher. Think of it as three, four, five kids disarming a single teacher with a gun. Kids can think, plan, organize a group, etc. they’ve learned strategy, working as a group, playing video games.
This is a bad idea. Do you think two teachers with a gun can do something with an AK-15?

What a silly scenario. Why would the students know who has one unless the teacher was brandishing or bragging about having it?

They could do a lot more than NO ONE being armed but the bad guy. Just the knowledge of someone may be armed might be enough to thwart an attack.

Or leaving a gun carelessly in a drawer because they’re not feeling well or fatigue…or they “put it down for just a minute to fix their pants/skirt”. If you don’t think that can happen…you’re letting your political perspective blind you. The answer is school resource officers who are armed and practice with their weapons. Which is another problem. With budget cuts, you know there won’t be money to practice with a weapon and like all skills, shooting gets rusty without practice…
