      Yes. But this is also due to the fact that the others are not running their races optimally. 200 is all about controlling your speed. He was probably maintaining or accelerating slightly, while others were slowing down. Lactic buildup is a thing even in 100m. I used to run both, but 400m was my main event. This is an important lesson for Boling who needs to work on his finish.

      @@insidiousmaximus 100% agree with you. His stride frequency is better too which means he is just plain faster than the rest of the field. @@HunterReport I was a 100 / 200 sprinter and you're right. It's not so much about top speed as it is about who slows down the fastest. Top speed is generally reached at 60-70m. You don't hold top speed, you hold top gear, and the top speed goes down. Generally, the winner is the guy that has a high top speed but also doesn't slow down that much when he reaches it. Lactic acid is a mofo you can't shake.

    This is great to see, as a former sprinter (not professional) in my opinion what you witness here is something commonly referred to as "in the zone, flow state, or in the cut" this is essentially when everything is perfect and everything you do is perfect, in this state you unlock your true physical and mental peak, however it usually takes some time to enter this state and you are usually there for a very short period of time. No other sprinter has seemingly engaged their flow state because of the short period of the race and secondly exerting maximum effort immediately once the race starts. If I'm right if a loud and sustained sound that Joeseph Fahnbulleh finds unpleasant and breaks his concentration could be played as he starts to close distance, he would almost instantly reduced speed, but if this was not the case then this is purely physical which should be studied.

He's got to go out in 10.22 and come in at 9.57 to break 19.80 Typically the 100 split is 3-4 tenths slower than one's 100 straight PR. (of course, he's also only 20 : )

    I agree 19.7 is very possible and I also believe, maybe not this season, sub-10 sec 100m is very much going to be part of his repertoire. Once he adjusts his start.

    • @SDesWriter
      @SDesWriter Před 2 lety

      The man is huge. How much adjusting is he going to be able to do to make his start faster? The more energy you expend on your start and acceleration phase, the less you have for maintaining your top end speed and losing less before the end of the race. No one on earth maintains their maximum speed for more than 10m-20m, so maybe He and his coaches looked at his strengths and weaknesses and decided on this as a strategy. It's exactly the way Laird won all last year.

If he puts time and effort into that start, you can rest assure that off the bend, he will fly in front of the others. I easily see him competing with Bolt in that 3rd spot for the fastest closing 100m of all time maybe even Michael Johnson, although I think Blake will be left untouched.

    I look at his stride as an amateur, hulking, slow feet with big strides, probably too big but works on his start-acceleration phase better now, like lyles just focuses on the carry. Look at Laird, hes already given it his best near 150 and hopes to keep stride. Totally different styles. Laird uses perfect mechanics and his leg speed/consistency is huge.

    stating the obvious here... for an elite level track athlete his body mass is on the higher end. I would say he would benefit tremendously if he gets his conditioning dialed in.
