  • With the recent Southern California wild fires, I thought I would spend a few moments discussing the consequences of smoke inhalation and when you should visit a doctor.

Excellent information. Would love to see the Dr. also talk about inhalation of by-products caused by burning of things like vinyl siding, and other products commonly found in the home.

Our house burnt down last week and my husband is in ICU at the burns unit at one of the hospitals. He suffered 25% 3rd degree burns on his arms, back and head. He also inhailed a lot of smoke. Now the doctors are saying he has a lot of mucus in his lungs and that is putting him at high risk.
Are there any medicines to treat such a case and approximately how long would it take for one to recover from burns to the lungs due to smoke inhalation.

I have a specific problem. I walked into a hydrazine jet fuel leak to go after a downed pilot in the military. My airway was burned. Then I walked into a trapped airspace with a chlorine acetylene gas cloud 2 years later. I ended up in pulmonary ICU then. Since then I developed the loudest, harshest barking cough you've heard. Usually it goes away with steroids. It's exhausting me and lasting longer. Since covid. I need a workout to regain my stamina. Any ideas?

Hi thank you for your information. I need a quick response. One of our cookware (wok) was caught on fire while me and my family are sleeping, the smoke was so thick and inhaling causes my chest hurt. I want to know if it is okay for me to drink water immediately. Thank you.

You know that information is all and good. But you didn't give ways to prevent those things from happening. That information would have been more helpful.

This video is 4 years old or so. But to prevent inhalation injury, get away from the smoke, wear a mask but largely stay away. It’s tough to prevent in accidental situations at times. The signs of it are important to seek medical treatment.
