- Ly San was born in a small village in the northern mountainous area of Vietnam. In 2010, she left home for dental treatment in a town 60 km away, but there she met a woman who tricked her into travelling across the border to China. She was sold as a bride to a Chinese husband and wasn’t able to escape and return to her children and family for four years.

Southeast Asian girls have always been sold to foreign men. Before to westerners now to Chinese and Koreans.
Quick summary
She got betrayed by her own people twice.
The only people who treat her nice were the Chinese people. She get to eat chicken for dinner and a husband that never lay hand on her.
She learned to use WeChat.
Once she's back home, the police abandoned her like the husband abandoned her daughter.

Yeah, my friend here once hired a nanny from the Philippines and found out she was trafficked. They helped her get out. It's a really big problem. The first time she got to communicate with her family was when they let her do it through their phone

This is not a China issue, this is an issue with humanity and unfortunately It's happening all over the world. It's definitely not as bad as it used to be with the improvements of technology, surveillance, social media, etc, but in order to really stop this from happening, demand needs to be cut.
This affects us all Asian even if we don't have direct relatives still living in East and Southeast Asia, it hits home when it happens to someone of your ethnicity. This is very scary. Imagine all the dead bodies the Chinese government will one day dug up because a lot of those traffick girls get beaten to death and buried on countryside farms and ditches for stupid things because they don't do exactly as told due to a lack of understanding mandarin. Something has got to be done and soon or else more girls will meet this demise.

Soo true! My mom used to say she'd leave us on the street for someone to kidnap us when we got on her nerves. But it didn't register in my mind that trafficking was THAT common in China until I was older.
This has been going on with many indigenous Iu-Mien (like this woman) and Hmong women for years in Vietnam and Laos. Glad there’s coverage on this.

So, this became an industry in China where they kidnapped women from Laos and Vietnam and they are usually sold as wives, but sometimes they are sold as prostitutes. According to these victims themselves, sometimes it's their own friends and families that sold them to China too. Very sad and scary world to live in. North Korean women who escaped from North Korea, but whom are unlucky also face the same fate like these women. They are usually sold as wives, or as prostitutes.
@@sakurakou2009 she went to the dentist and got kidnapped it wasn't like they thought anything bad was gonna happen. many indigenous people in the hills aren't overly prospective of their women because they're farmers. they are used to going to their farms and markets, usually nothing scary happens. the men are probably also doing the same, going to the farmlands, hunting, and going to the markets, life is hard they gotta be self sufficient, men will do their own thing same as women.

There is a notorious tradition of favoring boys over girls in rural China, which ultimately leads to a significant imbalance of sex ratio. Thus there exists a market for trafficking women (and children), either from other areas of China or from abroad.

It's the world we live in these days.
Third world countries tend to have much higher psychopathy rates, something that is kind of pushed under the rug due to it easily being seen as a racist view. If you grew up in either North America (USA/CAD) or the down under (AUS/NZ) and a few other places, then you’re lucky to have grown up around normal people for the most part, but it will be a shocker as to how different people are if you go to places like Vietnam, Nigeria, Mexico, etc. It’s almost as if the entire nation has a mental disorder.

@@tiffanym8494 My theories are overpopulation and “Old Word BS.” Overpopulation because that makes people feel less empathy for others as there are so many people, so why does it matter if a few of them dies? So other human lives has less value to them. It’s a general principle of loosing appreciation for something when you have so many of it.
By Old World BS, I mean stuff like casteism (seeing someone as less than an animal because of their last name), religious beliefs that makes no sense and creates more divisions, old ethnic tensions (Tutsi vs Hutu in Rwanda is just one of many examples), dumb national pride that makes people think they are the superior group because of the actions of people who happened to have lived in the same place thousands of years ago, holding grudges from events that happened long before they were even born, etc. And all the problems that we still have in western countries like racism, sexism, etc, are amplified like a hundred fold in these places.
I’d agree with harsh environments and problematic childhoods too. It’s kind of like a repeating cycle. I’d know, I grew up in that world until the age of 9 when I moved to the US. What’s the best way to break the cycle? If the next generation grows up in the west. Otherwise, there’s really no hope.
This is such an open story for Vietnam and I remember my lecturer told us about this issue. It all started when Chinese mainland men (especially from the village side) are facing the issue of lack of women to marry.
I blamed it on the China patriachy culture of favoring the male and the 1 child policies.
I blame the CCP period! If you're going to dictate a one child policy at least reward those who have baby girls to offset the gender balance but of course those idiots handle the situation poorly like how they handle the COVID outbreak in the very beginning. 👎

Most of the victims are ethnic minorities. Well, we know that because racism is obvious in Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar.
I agree. I've heard stories of Hmong girls being kidnapped sometimes it was negotiated by the men in their family because of poverty. This is very sad. Manufacturing jobs need to go to SEA so that ppl would stop going to China period!

I remember a story like this, a couple years back where a Hmong girl was walking home from school and was kidnapped and taken to China to be married. It was really big news in the Hmong community back then but luckily she was let go after a couple of days.

There is a ton of human trafficking cases in Vietnam that I grow up hearing . There are cases that some girls are drugged and become sex slave for the whole family in Chinese rural area, where she is chained and raped by 6-7 old men everyday ( they are so poor and too old to have wife). Some survivor was forced to take pill that erase all their memory or even being victim of viscera trading. This is totally heart rending to listen.

I always wanted to visit Vietnam I am viet-American but I've never been there. I don't have family left over there. I was told by someone if I go there I better go with 5 to 10 people and stay in a large group. I was told I'm too light and they can tell I'm a tourist, they will watch how i speak and act. they will try to kidnap me and sell me to prostitution. That's why I never went.
@@txl43n Việt-kiều ( American-Vietnamese) like you are among the vulnerable groip when traveling in vietnam , it's highly recommended to travel in group to avoid scamming , thief , etc . Just try to avoid going into slum area , avoid confrontation with people who you think are bad people , sexual assualt , thieves, gang violence , human trafficking here in Vietmam are rampaging and showing no sign of ceasing , vietnamese won't hesitant to harm their own fellow countryman , they will overcharge you their petty 25000 đồng ( roughly 1$) worth of merchandise up to 100000 ( 4$) đồng . Overall just travel at your own risk ( travel in group , tour if it's your first time traveling) you should try coming back to Việt Nam if you are a Việt kiều , it would be a wonderful and memorable experience ( just disragard of the current corrupted rulling system ofc )

I know asian models and food travelers that go there, they have body guards and travel in large groups. I only know 2 people that might go with me. It's not enough to visit.

@@txl43n I'm Vietnamese, born and raised here. I think it's not that scary. You can go to famous tourist places which are safer, some staffs in hotels are very nice and they even warn you about scams, pickpocketing,... I did travel alone here so I would say you don't need to go with a big group to be safe. Vietnamese people are friendly, don't mind asking anyone randomly on the street if you need help.
I wonder how many such innocent souls have fallen prey and are still trapped to this day. Human Trafficking is an issue that needs to actively, aggressively pursued by all governments and organisations alike, with increased cooperation and coordination with each other. Else the issue will never go away.

A chinese landlord... tried to sell me off to a Pakistan for a green card even though i was engaged already with my true love... i tried to call the cops but they said " it he said she said" and because i actually didnt do it...the cops didnt want to do anything about it. I never felt so unsafe and still do.... it so disgusting the world we live in...

I remember another kidnapping video in South Asia(might be Vice don't remember) but the girl was from Nepal and kidnapped to India, and a girl she knew gaved her a laced candy

This is nothing new unfortunately. In China, there are more men than women to the point where there are so many unmarried Chinese men. Chinese women themselves also get kidnapped into marriages just like these ethnic minority women from Laos and Vietnam. Let's not to forget to include North Korean women who escaped from North Korea, but who are unlucky, meets the same fate like these women.

Thank you for posting. It's not surprising that human trafficking, particularly women trafficking exists in this day and age. Unfortunately, many cases are disguised as consensual marriages between 3rd world Asian women and men from affluent Asian countries, where those Asian men would pay a huge sum of money to the marriage agency to buy a wife from neighbouring poor countries to ''serve the husband like a maid in the day and offer sex services at night'' as promoted by one of a marriage agencies in Singapore.

I didn't find it surprising either. I once got a job in Bangladesh. Chinese people working there were mostly males. I saw one of them bragging about how he bought a 15-year-old Bengali girl from her family with other Chinese men. These people have no shame. I remember there was even one time I saw the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan posted an article to educate Chinese men about how it is not Okay to buy woman from local human trafficker. They are treating women from other countries in the same way how we were treated by the European colonizers. This is what most men would do once he gets economically superior than other people. Maybe it's just biology, maybe it's about immorality, maybe it's human nature. I don't know.

Human trafficking victims are or were not silent, but as a matter of fact, they are or were being silenced. They may have attempted to report this type of crime to authorities, but they were unsuccessful. Human trafficking is a widespread issue all over the world. What’s more disturbing is that there may be a lack of initiative to actually prevent crimes like trafficking from ever reoccurring. I hope these victim(s) continue to fight for their own good. They deserve justice no matter at what cost.
It is happeing in Bangladesh also. Young chinese man will marry young girl, take her to him home in China, than same Story.
Go to Thailand, Vietnam and Laos, remote areas, small towns, small villages where Chinese workers also live nearby. Countless of stories of kidnapped daughters and sisters to go marry Chinese in China. The family will have to pay a ransom and broker to get the daughter back.

There are also reports like this in the Philippines. But rather than kidnapping "brides", they kidnap their fellow Chinese and ask the victim's family for ransom.
If the families fail to give the requested amount of ransom, they will send pictures and videos of them torturing the victims.

Cybersex trafficking (“the recruitment and transportation of victims and their live-streamed rape, sexual abuse, and sexual exploitation by traffickers, some of whom are tortured to death”) is becoming more prevalent in China. Its victims are often girls as young as 9 years of age who are “forced to perform graphic sex acts and are sexually assaulted in front of webcams which are live-streamed to a paying audience.
Xiang Xiang came to China three years ago to seek a decent life, only to find that her destination was a brothel in Dongxing. She has been working as a prostitute in Dongxing, since being trafficked and sold by her *older female cousin,* who is married to a Chinese man and living in the city.
Xiang Xiang started considering a move to China after her cousin returned home to visit relatives, flaunting her own “affluent and easy” life in China in front of the then-17-year-old village girl.
“She kept talking about her life - a life I had always dreamed of - and persuaded me to go with her. Her account sounded credible to me at the time, since she was dressed in Chinese top brands from head to foot and wore dazzling gold jewellery,” Xiang Xiang recalled.

I don't understand how in some marriage customs all over Asia, it's "ok" to just kidnap girls (allot of the time when they're still in their teens) and it be totally ok and not considered kidnap or human trafficking!!
Really tho, TRUST NO ONE. There's literally nothing a stranger can provide you that you can't provide yourself or that's not available on the internet. I'm so glad she made it home. Her smile in the end was everything.

It is terrible all the crap that humans do to others due to greed. There is a shortage of women in China due to their one child policy. So with the Chinese wanting their family names to be carried on, they wanted boys. And also, when men get married, they usually stay with their parents so when a woman marries, she leaves to her husbands home and in doing so leaves her own aging parents without family to care for them. It’s a sad harsh truth. But tragic nonetheless. I feel so bad for the victims since many aren’t so lucky to return home.

Trafficking in my country isn't as common as it used to be, but it's taking on a different form. is not human trafficking by kidnapping. It is a sad fact that in my country. Many young women in the countryside find a chance to change their lives by marrying Taiwanese and Korean men. I even know a youtube channel that deals with Vietnamese women, they market themselves to be chosen by Korean men.
My uncle in law, before he died, worked as a border guard. The Mekong delta side of China/Vietnam. They’ve apprehended trafficked people and Chinese people trying to traffic Vietnamese people. The majority of them only know some form of Chinese, so no Vietnamese or English. Women were given harsh orders in a language they didn’t know. When the majority of the world was on Covid lockdown, Chinese people still came into Vietnam to participate in human trafficking. It’s hard to communicate to these traffickers, as his sector only speaks English and Vietnamese.
It sickens me to the core to hear her story. Horrible horrible ppl out there. May they get the karma that they deserve. Such a brave soul she is! So sad for her but I'm so glad she made it back home. wat happened to her friend tan?

Many minority women such as Miao, Yao, ..etc in Vietnam and Laos were kidnapped or tricked and sold to China hoping for a better life and some are lucky to make it back alive and told their stories to the villagers but others got beaten to death or killed.

It's an old tradition in a lot of cultures including Mong people but human trafficking is a certified crime.
As a Chinese and grown up in China now living in us I agree it’s happening almost every day (actually every day) here it’s a big problem and the annoying thing is that government won’t just do anything about it.

All race are equal to each other, no one superior than other race, only God is superior. Marriage is cannot be a 'transaction' like buy or selling. If the woman who will get married, do not agree with the marriage, the marriage are not permissible. It is prohibited to force that women to marry in that kind of situation. The marriage also will not be acknowledged as a 'MARRIAGE'.
This kind of things is not human's nature. But, devil's that wearing human mask nature.

The one child policy backfiring China really hard. Affected by such policy, most families in China prioritize male over female babies, cuz they thought man will have more opportunities to get job and take care of them in their old days. Then obviously male to female ratio became imbalanced and had to take drastic measures, and that is "import" women from outside China.
