Your $10 dollar note was printed at the BEP in Washington DC and issued to the 7th Federal Reserve bank in Chicago, IL. All notes are printed at the BEP in Wash or Ft Worth TX and then issued when the need arises to the 12 fed reserve banks.

Yes, this note is worth more than $2. It is worth at least $5 if it's a $2 from 1963. Not exactly rare, but "United States Notes" are extremely hard to find in circulation, and they're in high demand.
If the condition of your note is excellent (for example, AU or even uncirculated), then you may get top dollar for it. Look at eBay and you will have a much better idea of how much your note. Remember that at the end of the day, your note is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

I once had a crisp 1950 series E $10.00 bill from the bank... Took it to a convenient store to purchase something... The lady said it was fake, swiped the bill, so I took it back to the bank... The bank swiped it the bill with the pen and said it was real... I spent the damn thing anyways... About 1 year later I started getting into coins and paper money collecting... Find out that bill I had was worth over $100.00 and not only did 2 morons color it with the pen, but 1 more moron spent it at a convenient store.

I'll make your feel better about your dumb move. When the State quarters came out, my dad would get them brand new, uncirculated from the bank. One for every state, for every year. He mailed them to me wrapped up really good to keep them protected. He also gave me the coin chart to keep them in. So from 1999 to 2007 or 2008, he mailed them to me every year. He died in 2006, so my mom mailed them to me the next year or 2 and stopped. Some of them I never even took out of the protective wrapping it was in. A couple of years ago, I got down and depressed and I didn't have much money but I wanted to go the the club. I never even looked them up to see if they were worth more than face value. I never even looked close at them. Shortly after I spent them all at the club a few months later, I started learning a lot about coins and purchased a microscope when I learned I should to see details. Then I realized most of those coins I held onto and kept them protected for 10-20 years were worth thousands each. I felt sick and I still do. I asked my mom about her coins not long ago. She said she got rid of those a long time ago along with a box full of coins my dad collected and held onto for a long time. I remember all kinds of change he saved, buffalo nickels, indian head pennies, silver dollars, half dollars, bicentennial coins. The list goes on and on. She said "They will never be worth more than face value." She's not a coin collector! She has no idea what she's talking about! I felt like ringing her neck! She asked the bank what they are worth and they told her face value. Well of course to a bank it's not worth more than face value. So whether they knew if they had value or not I'm sure they took it home with them. I don't understand why she didn't offer it to me first. I would have given her face value for it! I told her about how much the state quarters are now in mint condition and she said she felt sick now. I also had a gallon sized freezer zip lock bag full of pennies that I held on to for several years. My dumbass takes the bag to walmart, dumps the whole thing in a machine counter and gives you what it added up in dollars minus a percentage. I think it was about $16+ and I think I got back about $13 or so. I do remember it kept over $3. I never even looked through the change. Now do you feel better? lol

Funny thing I asked a local coin/currency shop about star notes. There answer is unless the new style currency is uncirculated they star notes aren't worth anything. The only time theyre are actually valueable as a circulated bill is if you have an OLD note that has a star

REMEMBER, a collection begins on a interest personal to you. If it happens to be valuable than it becomes more interesting to others. I have been aware coin shops, collector stores, offer very little incentive in collecting or valuing paper money.
Years ago, I passed on a Very fine 1934 $10, because a call to coin store said "no added value over face", have regretted that for a long time. Alas I have acquired a 1934 recently thanks to educating the wife.

There are only two places bills are printed in our Great Country. BEP prints currency. There are 12 FRB districts. All bills, districts/ denominations, can be and are printed at both facilities. FW and DC. Bills used to be printed for & delivered to specific FRB according to population and currency need. This practice was omitted to save on logistics/ records. Now a pallet of bills printed w/ FRB A-Boston- may be sent to CA. to fill order for the L district, & the reverse.

But also I want to collect US notes because there's more potential to profit (more people who collect US notes) obviously I can exchange NZ money for US money at any bank here in NZ, but do you think I'd have any luck finding rare ones at banks here. Or would overseas banks just have the most recent US bank notes?

If you want a $2 bill, just go to your local bank teller. Ask them if they have some $2 bills. You'll get each for $2. I must warn you that the bills are worth only $2, unless it's from 1963 or earlier, in which case it maybe worth $5 or more. Even though the $2 bill is not rare per se, it's a great note to start your banknote collection. Still, it's something different from the other bills in circulation, because you may have to do a little more work than usual to get one at face value.

And, so doesn't look like it's worth much more than five bucks, but it's pretty rare to see that. I've never seen paper money that old before. And in decent shape. I figure, someone collected it, and then somehow it made its way back into circulation. That's my theory, anyway.

Hey BlueRidge; having trouble doing research online, and finding top of examples for/of error notes and fancy serial numbers; really combo's of the two; or otherwise errors involving both the make-up of the Note, and the serial number... ex.. Mixed ladder, and raised suffix: or, raised digit, and lower suffix on one side of Note's serial number sequence??? These are both on newer $1. Than on older and way older, more (VF) stuff 1977-1935; misaligned, off-centered, cutting error, ink error, with error serial numbers and fancy serial numbers...?!?!?!?!

the 1976 $2 is not hard to find. Because that denomination gets circulated so little, it's very easy to find a not uncirculated 2 in pretty much as good of condition as one from 2009. After 1976, I believe it has only appeared in the 1995, 2003 (A), 2009 and 2013 series. Ironically, I have gotten a series 2013 $2 but I have yet to see a 2013 dollar bill.
One the other hand, I rarely find a dollar bill older than 2003 (I'm a cashier), and seldom see any but the 2009 in good condition.

Can you recommend a website to look up the value of paper $? Cause I'm going blind trying to find one. I have a 1977 $20 bill, Philadelphia. S# C00357735* (star). Also the C on the top right (above the Treasury seal) is off line with the rest of the S#. Does that matter? Thanks!

Probably no loss. Modern issue stars are worth face value unless they have an error, even if they are uncirculated. For the most part older series hundreds don't command a premium in average circulated condition until you get as far back as 1934. Even those only command a few dollars over face value.
