  • @ChristianMaczikcimachh65

The front dive with my Prindle cat I loved to do. In high speed it was sometimes like a little bungee jump when we were in the trapez. My trainees always were surprised, when they find themselves in the water in front of the boat. 🤣👍

Wish I would have known earlier this week. Capsized my Hobie 18 for the first time ever while I was trapping out and as I was coming from the top my right knee came across the jib block. Well I took a slice down to the bone and it definitely made righting the boat a bit more challenging. The fellow on the boat had never been on a catamaran and I had not had to right the 18 before. The local fire department came out and gave my gapping wound a wrapping and eventually we sailed the boat back to shore and I made my way to the ER for a stitching. Can't wait to get back flying some hull. Nice video Joe.

A good way to learn how to prevent something is deliberatly not preventing it (for a while)! I did this, not as courageous as these guys in a high speed sailing catamaran, but with my inline skates (free style quite advanced level, so I also had quite some speed) I deliberately fell in many different ways until I had a great sense of the limits. It was actually joyful, like I also see with these guys. Thanks for vid and courage!

Excellent as usual. You need to do a flippy flippy. To show that in strong winds you need to jump on the hull that was in the water. If you’re standing solo on the bottom hull leaning backwards, you need to make a real effort to get onto the hull where your feet were so you can avoid a flippy flippy. If you have a crew member, they need to know to hold down the hull that’s in the water when the high hull starts coming down for sure. Great video.

As one 5.8 sailor to another Chris, don't be afraid to stand out on the daggerboards when righting the boat. The 5.8 is very solidly built and can take a lot of punishment. For my righting line, I've just got a large bowline that goes around the dolphin striker and comes up over the front beam to loop around the base of the mast step. That will create a very secure anchor point for the line when you come to use it. One idea that my local Nacra dealership (Brisbane Catamaran Centre, Australia) does with all their boats too is tie or splice a loop into the end of the righting line that is fed through a bit of vinyl tube which can give you a decent handhold when necessary and is big enough to get your foot into so you have an extra boost for getting back onto the trampoline.

@@seancostello2622 thanks for your input Sean that it good to know. The foot/hand hold sounds like a good idea.
      Good sailing mate.

Ha! Love this joe . Definitely taking several for the team . Ash looked a little shell shocked by the third one. Your stamina and attitude prevailed 👍
I fell through the 15's sail straight of the coach last year leaving an embarrassed Graeme shaped hole in it . Not my finest hour :-/. But never looked back after that :-)))

I was hitting it a little loose at times in this one, maybe an older sail wouldn't have made it. See you soon.

Great stuff. You forgot one...the "Hobie salute", where you stuff a tack in decent wind and wave action. Boat sails backwards, trips on the rudders and goes over backwards, leaving the bows pointing to the sky. Remedy is to climb one hull and tip the boat over on her side and right normally.
