    Woops sorry... we camped in the Croatan Gamelands in the beginning, not Ocala. I had just woken up okay? Go easy!

    We live in Davis, NC where the ferry departs from. If you are fortunate enough to be starting your passage in the morning, be sure to get a scratch made breakfast sammich from the Handy House convenience mart across from the shore. I am not affiliated or endorsed, just a great start to a wonderful experience. And if you happen to go up to Buxton, stop early morning at Orange Blossom . It will add great joy to your journeys. And, only tell good people about this amazing part of the world. Ne'er do wells avoid at all costs. Remember, this is privateer territory . I love this video submission. Very well crafted.

      I can't tell you how glad it makes me to hear that a local to the area enjoyed this video. I have had the breakfast sandwiches at the Handy House, and they are amazing! I'll definitely need to check out Orange Blossom. Thank you for the recommendation, and for your encouragement on the channel!

    Great visuals! I love a little more commentary. How much is the ferry? What's driving on the sand like, do you need to worry about getting stuck? Do you need a pass or permit? It is truly beautiful!

    I like that you’re showing trips that don’t require a serious off-road vehicle with tons of mods. Keep up the good work, would love to see a map overlay highlighting the routes you take and or gps coords. I live near Uwharrie, you should check it out, so,e decent off-roading and camping there.

      We definitely plan on heading to Uwharrie sometime soon! In the videos I try to talk through where we are and how to get there so that people can follow the routes. At this point trying to include maps in the videos would probably be too much, but maybe down the road I could throw some info on a website for people. We'll see. Thanks for following and glad you are enjoying the content!

    I love Cape Lookout! Been there MANY times! I noticed that when you mentioned airing down your tires, you brought up the concern of erosion. Another very destructive practice is that of digging holes, especially deep holes, in the sand. The holes endanger the coast, the wildlife, the trucks that constantly drive up and down the beach, and the park staff and emergency responders who patrol the beach. I'm thrilled that you guys are out there having fun, but please consider others when doing so.
    With that being said, I have a couple questions:
    1. Where were you camping at the beginning of the video? I know you said the name of the place, but I couldn't understand what you said.
    2. What do you call the orange "traction boards" you're carrying, and where can I find some?
    Thanks!
    P.S. FYI - I started typing my comment before the end of the video, before I saw that you had accidentally driven into one of the holes. So I guess you DO know of some of the dangers involved.

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  Před 5 lety

      Agreed about digging holes... we fill in every hole that the kids dig, and if they are in an area where trucks could drive then we put a chair or a flag by them to make sure no one drives into them. There is also a shot where you can see the kids made a tunnel, and that's cool and all, but we would never let them go inside it. The kids do a lot of digging out there, but it's with a lot of caution and when they are done everything is put back the way it used to be. Thanks for the heads up!
      We camped on the gamelands that are part of Croatan National Forest. Works well so that we can drive out the evening before and we just have 30-45 minutes in the morning to get to the ferry.

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  Před 5 lety

      Oh yeah and the orange traction boards are called Maxtrax. We have used them more then once out at Cape Lookout when a truck as gotten stuck, and we actually found they work even better then towing. Nice insurance to have along on any trip!

    Appears they have been illegal since 2014 so nothing new here.
    .
    Policy Memorandum 14-05, released by the National Park Service (NPS) director in June 2014, directed each superintendent to use the authority under 36 CFR 1.5 to prohibit the launching, landing, or operation of unmanned aircraft, subject to the certain conditions and exceptions set forth in the memo. This is still in force with a very few exceptions.
    This action applies to the launching, landing, and operation of unmanned aircraft on lands and waters administered by the NPS. Jurisdiction by the NPS ends at the park boundary. The policy memorandum does not modify any requirement imposed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on the use or operation of unmanned aircraft in the National Airspace System.
    Violation of the ban is a misdemeanor with the maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $5,000 fine.

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  Před 4 lety +1

      You should check out this video to see a bunch of setups that the other guys I go with have built out. It would give you some ideas for gear: czcams.com/video/bqlJwrSvPdw/video.html
      The one piece of gear that is absolutely invaluable when camping on the beach is a brush like the kind that goes with a dustpan. It is the only quick and easy way to clean sand off stuff, and it makes a world of different when trying to clean off your feet, your chairs, your kids, the inside of your truck, etc.
      Cost wise, its around $85 for the ferry round trip, plus $10 for each person going including yourself.
      We love it out there and keep going back!

    • @christophermoore2512
      @christophermoore2512 Před 4 lety

      The NPS website has a list of what ya can take. Definitely search beach camping gear essentials, shovel, rope, wind/rain gear, fuel and water. Take the ferry out of Davis, NC (two ferries) within a mile or 2 from each other. The only real big cost I factored was the ferry and fuel. I visited Cape lookout from D.C area last year, was about 6 hours. Good luck and have fun!

      @@mountainstoseaoverland9855 this is not true at all. You can definitely be a hobbiest without a part 107. Also he is right, you where illegal to pop the drone up there in the National park and it can incur a $5k fine and confiscation of gear if busted. There are plenty of free apps such as Kittyhawk and Airmap that clearly show the NF zones. I just sold my Mavic 2 pro largely in part because of so many folks like yourself who will throw them up anywhere knowing its illegal to do so.

    • @mountainstoseaoverland9855
      @mountainstoseaoverland9855  Před 4 lety +2

      As soon as you arrive on the ferry there is a ranger who takes your vehicle information, gives you something to read, has you sign something, and then gives you a permit sticker that is good for one year of driving on the North and South Core Banks (Cape Lookout and Portsmouth Island.) This is different from the permit that is required for driving on the outer banks north of Cape Lookout or driving on some of the other beaches like Fort Fisher and Freeman Park. There is no overlap between these areas. Each area requires it's own permit and has it's own requirements and fees.
