That new years eve was the warmest ever in 1965-1966 it hit a record high with a mild afternoon high of 63 degrees and it dropped down to a mild 58 degrees when the ball dropped at the stroke of midnight and then 7 years after that when it was 1972-1973 they had that weather again but it rained that year and it didnt reach up to the record high 63 the high was only 59 that was when New Years Eve legend Dick Clark started to host New Years Rockin Eve and was his 1st year then

1966 would become a pivotal year for pop culture with Batman premiering later that January, Star Trek premiering in September, and the beginnings of psychedelics, the hippie era and the anti-war movement.

As the ball dropped in Times Square on that New Year's Eve 1965-66, John V Lindsay was about to become Mayor of NYC and a transit strike was about to start. Not a great way to start a new administration or a new year.

on a lighter note, a high percentage of the people in Times Square that night are now dead. Those still alive are old and near death.
