Hey there! It’s been a while. I hope you’ve been great. This video talks about what I do as a healthcare assistant. I’m also going to give few tips on surviving as a hca.
Thanks for sharing your experience. You have given many good tips. This is a very honourable job but it is not for everyone obviously. Overall, it's a very difficult job mentally and physically. People need to know what to expect, more information to make a very informed decision. Mostly, the day and night proceedures are not simply sitting around after service users are settled, be it before meals, after all meals, afternoons or even going to their bed and even those who are permanently in bed. There is always things to do as bells are always ringing. For toileting times, usually before breakfast, before lunch, before evening tea and in-between. Residents are each supported in the toilet or those who need personal assistance, which is usually the majority. This involves lifting into wheelchairs, pushing wheelchairs, hoisting, ( moving and handling procedures) Residents are taken to the toilet, assisted with personal care and then back to their seats or bed. For those who are mostly in their rooms, bells are always ringing for assistance too. At times non stop, if that/those particular residents wants/feels the need for assistance. The cleaning/washing up in some homes which is usually in the majority : So washing up of the evening tea utensils after you have served the supper/evening tea on a trolley to those in their rooms and those in the lounge. So on the evening shift you share or split the duties after you have settled the residents in bed, (some homes get the afternoon staff to assist residents who want to go to bed earlier. ) Though bells maybe still ringing for those residents in bed already who feel their need further assistance. So while night staff are either in the kitchen washing up, setting tables for morning breakfast, other staff go to the laundry to pack the washing machine, then dryer and ironing. There is also cleaning/hoovering of the lounge and corridors. You still have to check on residents and there are even hourly checks in place throughout. Remember, files have to be written in too for each residents evening experience including fluids/meals. Even incidents like falls/ emergencies, paramedic visits etc. Also, with regards to staff there are people from different walks of life including native people of the country offcourse. True, one may find that some are lovely and some are very difficult to work with. I won't go into this much because I think one has to make their own decision on how to navigate this maybe by accepting how human nature can be, thinking of where people are coming from/environments and how people's behaviours are shaped by this including oneself. At the end of the day, yes you will learn alot.. It's lovely to care for others and people need the care. So do you! 🙏
You’ve given more information, thanks. Like I said earlier each home is different. Sometimes I go to a home and it’s not busy except for rounds and other homes too you can’t even sit down. So yeah… the work is not for everyone.
This was an educating add-up, to strongly support the speakers' experience. I appreciate both the speaker and the supportive types of notes. It was greatly helpful and underlying. your typed-up was simple to scroll true. Thanks.
You are Beautiful...and this is just a pure compliment...and thank you for sharing. this has given me a bit of a lift and what to expect. God bless you. cheers
@𝓢𝓪𝓻𝓪𝓱 thank you so much. I’m so happy you’ve found your passion and I wish you all the best!!! In case you need to talk more you can text me on Instagram at _faith_stephen
Thanks faith that as awesome. I kept watching like it should not finish like i need more😅 more grace. Like ur encouragement. U taught about it in a way that even a naive can understand. Thanks
Hello, just came across your video and it’s quite enlightening as I’m also considering coming to the U.K. to work in a care home. I have a question though. How many residents are assigned to each care assistant to attend to their needs? Thanks
Faith you are really a blessing God bless you for the educative info.kindly I need to speak to you privately,I'm from zambia and I'm doing health care assistant course want to come to UK, please please I need your help.
If I’m newly employed to a home or agency, do they have any rules concerning when to get pregnant as a married woman or do I have to wait for a certain time before I do that?
Something like that should be in your contract but I don’t think they have any control over when you get pregnant. What you should ask about would be the maternity leave and you’re entitled to it as long as you’re a full time staff
Thanks for sharing! I'm still thinking about should I change my job healthcare assistant? I'm piano teacher is not stable income....if I restart my new job I need to pay big money to study healthcare care...im still scared......after if I'm successful I get new job....I know healthcare is physical job
Thanks sis for your effort. My question is ; can someone get job offer from 2different agencies, so that if one does not have job for you, the other may do and by that one is covered
This is my first time following you, and I loved it. I went through the comments and I saw ways to reach out to you. I will send you a mail, please do reply. Thank you.
How can I advise a lady of 45-50 living in Kenya, she is very poor and is interested in coming to UK for 2 years as a care worker. Her normal work is housekeeping/cleaner as well as farming. I have suggested that she tries for auxiliary nursing in the local hospital to gain experience but there are so few jobs where she lives. I know this lady from when I was in Eldoret and she is a good Christian lady who is not afraid of work.
Well done sis you are really doing a good job and the way you keep saying you have to clean it , it not a big deal you are very hard working please how do I message you personally 🙏
Working in a care home, you’ll most likely be paid basic rate. So just multiply it with an average number of shifts per week(3) and you should have a rough estimate
IELTS is a core aspect of applying for a nursing program or a job. With schools you can replace ielts with your waec but when it comes to getting a job directly, I think you have to take the ielts exam.
Hi. Very informative. But I have a question. About working with an agency, is it them that’ll sponsor my visa as well? And if they do sponsor, can I work with another agency? If they sponsor, is it possible to quit? How do I apply to these agencies from Nigeria instead of applying to the care homes directly?
When you are employed as a hca under the nhs professionals there is an opportunity to take a six months course which qualifies you to apply to the trainee nursing associate position. I think this takes about two years to complete as it’s a mixture of placements and university(one day a week). After this then you can then apply to be a nurse
@@faithstephen. hi sister I'm medical laboratory technician, wat re my chances of getting this job with sponsorship? And which area do u think I can. Fix in?
It’s not easy to stay awake throughout the night honestly and there’s no trick to it. I normally sleep properly before going for a night shift. During the night you can drink lots of tea. For me after a while it started getting easier. Just take it easy when you start and with time you’ll be able to adjust.
@@faithstephen. hi nurse faith, thanks for all your efforts. How can I apply as a nurse for a career job in the UK. How to get the right agency and what to do to make them accept my application. I have tried applying to a lot of agency no reply

Yes, it’s compulsory in every healthcare setting

Do you wear mask as well ?

Thanks amillion
On the average, how much can I make as a care assistant in a month working directly with care home as a worker not with agent?
Working in a care home, you’ll most likely be paid basic rate. So just multiply it with an average number of shifts per week(3) and you should have a rough estimate
Hello dear...kindly let me if you will be giving a pre training before starting your care job...?
Yes you will
Is there a certificate/experience required to work as a healthcare assistant job in uk? I just finished my course in healthcare assistant in dubai
Yes check your local institutions.
How can one get a genuine health care that will sincerely agree to accept and sponsor their Visa?
Yes
That's good
At the heavy weight champion part I died 😂😂😂
😅😅😅
Thanks for this information, please I have a question,Do you have any medical experience prior to working as a caregiver assistant in the UK?
No I don’t
Is there anyway to upgrade to an RN without IELTS

Most agencies don’t recruit from abroad. If you’re looking for a sponsor that means you’re looking for permanent contract
Is it possible to be working with two or more agencies?
Yes
Wow! you are very beautiful. No wonder they want to marry you😅
Very insightful.

Care homes will never pay your flight.Accomodation might be provided but you will not like those...

I don’t know about using waec for jobs. Most jobs would require you to take ielts
