yoooooo! That was me who requested this video! And yes, Steve Yzerman was on the team, he was the captain but this video shows the Russian style of hockey in the NHL in the mid-90s!
Fetisov and Larionov were already legendary players in Russia when they got to the NHL.
Them along with Alexander Mogilny and Pavel Bure changed the game forever. Until they came, NHL hockey looked so primitive compared to today.

Hell yes, this team was unstoppable! Steve Yzerman was still on the team and still the captain but he was getting older and slowing down a bit. So he stepped more completely into a leadership role and also went in in more physical situations...Fedorov wasn't weak or soft but Scottie Bowman wasn't about to risk him getting hurt because he was in too long. I guess kind of one of the first cases of resting your superstar to save them for crunch time in pro sports.
During these years, Detroit was never out of playoff contention. Russians were developed as very skilled players.They had an awesome coach too😎
3 of the Russian Five were Hall of Famers, Fedorov, Fetisov and Larionov. Konstantinov was heading towards a Hall of Fame career as well, but it was cut short due to a tragic car accident after the Red Wings won their first Stanley Cup championship in 40 years. They were all great players.

They didn’t really give konstantinov any highlights in this video! You should do a reaction to some of Konstantinovs hits in the nhl. In my opinion the best defenseman to ever play the game with Slava Fetisov. I’ve never played hockey before but Konstantinov inspires me to learn to skate and be the best defenseman I can be just by watching him kick some serious ass! Sweet reaction man 😎👊🥂

I watched a lot of hockey back then and this team was amazing. This team or some version of it beat my Lindros Flyers (a great team) for the cup. (Flyers needed goaltending, but they were a force.)

@@weasel8826 yes at some point in the Lindros era they did, I believe. What a shame they never won a cup though close a few times, because that was a great team. My feeling is, goaltending was a weakness and the main reason they couldn't get over the hump.
Lakers finally got a win.. Lebron can't play better offensively.. but it's only one game.. gunna take several more to make me feel better about the team.. still had bad mistakes and on both ends.. we shot great for us. Hopefully we can get on a streak

Yeah yzerman was on these teams, the Russian 5 years were the same years as the Colorado rivalry, if you back and watch the the brawl in 97 you’ll see the brawl was started by none other than Russian 5 member Igor larionov which is out of character for him, being as he was a highly skilled finesse player viewed almost as a discount Russian version of gretzky
