What's up, HorrorFam? Steven A.K.A. Bojangles here, and come closer, my friends, I have something scary to show you! Today, we're going to take a look at the classic episode of The Twilight Zone: It's a Good Life. In this episode, we watch what happens as a 6-year-old kid by the name of Anthony Fremont is left to run the world, but he didn't just luck into this opportunity. Instead, he has gnarly powers that allow him to read people's thoughts, and control his surroundings.
So, what does a child do with powers like this? Well, he makes people behave exactly how he wants them to behave. If they don't listen, he will wish them away into the cornfield-sometimes after turning them into a hideous monster. So, grab your popcorn and sit back, as Mr. Rod Serling himself takes us on another trip into.. The Twilight Zone.

The kid must not be able to completely read minds or he would know how much the surrounding people wanted him gone.
He has to sleep sometime ……

I’m surprised no one ever… stepped up to the plate… while he was asleep. 🤣

I think he can only read minds within a certain proximity. Notice how people only force themselves to be happy once they're around him.

Yeah… in retrospect, I should’ve included the fact that this episode may also be a commentary on bad parenting.

On the one hand, he's a kid who hasn't matured enough to have the capacity for empathy. On the other hand, he's like a rabid dog who DOES have the capacity to destroy you if you don't cater to his every whim. I say get him before he gets you!

Exactly. In retrospect, I wish I'd have included a commentary about that in this video. Maybe I'll do an updated one in the future. I don't believe it's a stretch to assume that this episode may also touch on the subject of bad parenting. And thank you for subscribing! Welcome to the HorrorFam, my new friend. 😀

What I love about The Twilight Zone is they don't feel a need to explain how or why Billy Mumy got the powers--they just go with it. We are free to fill in the blanks ourselves. Nothing like it before or since.

Yeah, Steven's commentary had me thinking that "It's a Good Life" could be seen as a microcosm of a whole country that's ruled by an authoritarian leader who is powerful enough to strike fear in the hearts of his or her subjects but is still vulnerable enough to be killed if a few are courageous enough to band together to dispatch the despot.
