Sig 556 was the first gun I ever bought. I describe it as “a front wheel drive AK”, as per the recoil spring pulling the bolt assembly instead of pushing. Very few malfunctions, but the poly hand guard has broken twice and if I put an aluminum rail on it, it will be retardedly heavy. It’s already heavy. The weight is why I never looked into the 556R. That, and it doesn’t accept standard AK mags.
Overall a pretty great rifle, NRA “Gun Of The Year 2007”, and now it’s discontinued because Sig is a shitshow of a company. If I knew they were going to discontinue it I wouldn’t have bought it. But I was like 20 and fresh of the ‘field so I didn’t know.
The 556R takes standard AK mags which is sweet, it's lighter than say a Zastava zpap M70 Serb AK.
Old Sig is best Sig :)
@@DJTheMetalheadMercenary whaaat?! Are there two versions of mags like there are with the MPX (logistical nighmare)?! I explicitly recall the 556R requiring proprietary mags.
@@AnAxetoGrind Must be? I honestly don't know all the variants of these, don't get to touch them often, but yeah this one is a 556R that takes standard AK mags :) (not my rifle, my buddy at Rauwolf Machine Works owns this gem)
Can confirm the 556r takes AK mags. Just put an eotech on my 556r. Weight wise it's comparable to my AKs... love my 556r. Gen 2 no issues ever
