Just heads up! If u have acne, just know that you will go through what they call the retinol purge, basically for about 6 to 8 weeks, retinol or tretitoin will bring all those nasty and sneaky pimples and whiteheads hiding deep under your skin to the surface of your face. So basically your cells turn over faster making new cells, so all those pimples that were going to pop up anyway within a few months will all pop up in a matter of a few weeks, it's okay though, because after 6 to 8 weeks, your skin will begin clearing up as there will be no more pimples hiding under your skin since retinol had healed and killed all of them! Totally worth it, I've started retinol a few weeks ago and you will start purging soon after a few times of using it, I'm purging right now, but soon it'll all clear up for me, totally worth it! Other acne treatments usually just kill whatever pimple is currently on your face, but not the deep ones that pop up a week later. Retinol is awesome, anti aging, gets rid of wrinkles, and acne. To know that you're purging, these are the side effects: getting more pimples in the areas you usually get pimples (can get a few other pimples here and there), you're getting whiteheads, and blackheads, and even a little bit of skin redness. This is all normal and will go away in about 6 to 8 weeks, stay patient because in the end, it'll be totally worth it, I mean would you rather be still struggling with acne after 8 weeks or finally getting clear skin? Also don't start using reitnol everyday, retinol use should be 1 to 3 times a week when u first start using it, and use a low concentration retinol like 0.02 or 0.03, high concentration retinols are for people who have been using retinol for a year or so and their skins used to it, 0.05 is considered high concentration retinol. Please be careful of this because if u use retinol every night at the start, you will begin destroying your skin barrier and causing severe irritation, and a damaged skin barrier is prone to bacteria, which leads to more acne, so start once to 3 times a week (using it every second to third day) then after 2 or so months when u see your skins doing well with it, start using it every second day, then after a month gradually begin using it daily, also if you have a damaged skin barrier (redness, itchy, painful skin) don't use retinol, use a Hydrating cleanser and a good Moisturiser, let your barrier heal then start retinol, and to discontinue use of retinol, just like how you started, please do not completely stop use, because your skins so used to it your skin will become severely irritated, do what you did when you started, instead of using retinol daily, use it every second day, then after a month, every third day, then every 4th day, every 5th, until once per week, then once every second week, once every 3rd week then slowly just completely stop, I hope this helped!
@octobersky9639 yeah, basically I purged really badly and went to a dermatologist, he said the retinol wasn't powerful enough and be gave me adapelene which is a much more powerful retinol, and now my skins doing so much better, I have a lot of pigmented scarring but that should go away soon, overall really good, if u think your acne is getting bad then head to a derm for a stronger retinol, if u live in America I'm sure u can buy adapelene without a prescription but here in AUS only a derm can give u anything stronger than a retinol
@@davidcop-a-feel9699 I thought purging was just like a breakout, that's why its hard to differentiate between the two and the reason why people tell you to wait it out for a month because anything more than 2 months is just a breakout.
