- nice for a first run. would probably like about a 3:45 eventually, although sub-3:40 is certainly possible.
this is a romhack based on the pokemon gold/silver spaceworld '97 demo, which was leaked in may 2018. the demo contained many early designs, some for pokemon which would go on to be cut from the final version of the game. the map and plot for this hack are also different to final gold/silver, drawing inspiration from the spaceworld demo.
the route uses flambear (demo fire starter) for battles, hoothoot/spearow/pidgey for a flyer, and bomsheal (demo fire/water mon) for surf/waterfall/whirlpool. abra is also used to save time backtracking in the mid-game.
thanks to the creators of the hack--i strongly recommend it! and thanks to casualpokeplayer for finding the lottery ID manip, and iron for putting so much work in on the route, collaborating with me, and writing up detailed notes that helped me learn. hopefully we can both push the time much lower in the future.

Just played this for the first time recently - it’s so weird how many more baby Pokémon they were considering even on top of what got released. A lot of the cut Pokemon were pretty cool I challenged myself to use exclusives, and it went well.

Seeing this in English with English names is...strange. Feels like I’m peeking into the memories of an alternate universe version of myself.

This is actually the first time I see this ROM hack, and just minutes ago I stumbled across a video where the guy was playing the original japanese demo, and commented on how I wished their was an english ROM hack of this.

glad i could help more people discover this hack, it’s really great. the download link to the latest version is in the description, but the download is a .ips file. you will need to patch a plain pokemon crystal rom in order to build the hack, but it’s really easy. just download a rom of crystal, download the .ips file from the link in the description, and use lunar ips to build the gold 97 rom (or silver if you prefer). you can download lunar ips here: www.romhacking.net/utilities/240/

(to be clear, the plain rom that you edit with the .ips file MUST be crystal, not original gold or silver, as the hack is built on the crystal engine).

I'm actually not quite sure why GameFreak didn't reuse that whole Japan map concept, I mean it sure was thought to be used but later scrapped... I guess it has to do with the limited memory space on a GBC cartridge, since the original japanese spaceworld was designed for a special console used in an event, which I guess contained way more memory space to fill in. But the concept is SOOOOOO amazing

i’m not sure, i guess it makes sense for size considerations, and the way they decided to end up connecting johto to kanto on the same landmass. but it’s cool that we got the leaks at least, and reforged honestly feels really authentic, as if you are playing the real gold/silver version from a parallel universe. really cool gaming history anyway.
@@GHeinz I agree. Sadly now I think the github changed, and it's not longer an IPS file, but as if it was the content of a cartridge dumped into files. So I'll have to compile everything first upon patching Crystal. Would be an interesting disclaimer to put in the description ;-P
As for the Johto / Kanto connection, it always was even in the final releases of the games. They are technically not on the same landmass so to speak, but the only thing linking them is route 28, as the Plateau is shared by both regions. Basically like linking 2 islands over by a bridge.

Suicune - Inside the fountain in Sanskrit Town (need Waterfall)
Entei - Inside the mountain in Sunpoint City (need Rock Smash)
Raikou - Ampare Cavern (You'll need Cut to access the cavern, then you gonna need Strength and Rock Smash inside the cavern)
If you play Gold, you need to catch Ho-Oh in Brass Tower before triggering the legendary beast trio event, and if you play Silver, you need to catch Lugia first in the Whirl Islands.

@@drd5455 there's no way to miss it, the radio tower guy gives it to you automatically in a forced cutscene right after you beat giovanni. it's HM05.
