  • I recently painted my front door with Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior in a Low Lustre finish, but before I did, I used my absolute FAVORITE primer on the market!

Honestly, I would paint that white plastic trim as well. I’ve done that on my last two houses and it makes a dramatic difference. That white box on the door adds nothing, especially on a dark door. I was nervous the first time I did it as no turning back. But it really does make the door look more professional. Previous house door was with SW Rock Bottom, and my new home in F&B Tar. They both look fabulous.
This is the first time commenting on your videos, enjoy them very much. Look forward to more paint color tips.

STIX is the best… 2% black add to the primer is perfect

I can echo your love for Aura. Although my metal front door only gets the very late afternoon sun, it gets really, really hot there , but Aura has held up remarkably well.
I did use a primer, but not Stixx . I think it was a Benjamin Moore primer.
It’s been 2 years now and still holding up very well, even with the hot sun, and while hosing off when dust gets on it and wiping with a sponge periodically it still has a lot of sheen, no flakes, not even dulling that I can see.
    So Yes on Aura!

What is your opinion on painting interior doors a color especially in a small home?

I’d like to use for front doors Dunn Edwards aristoshield or Advanced from Benjamin Moore

I just discovered your channel and am really enjoying it! 😊 Question: we live in a simple orange brick 1954 rambler with a simple gable roof. We just got a new roof with architectural shingles in Moire Black. The vinyl siding in the gable ends is white, and I’m pretty sure it’s been installed over the original asbestos shingles. What do you think about painting the siding? Any recommendations? I’m thinking about the color Behr Patio Stone N360-6.

a suggestion we saw the before picture and we never saw the after... it would be a big difference from the dark rose colour to a window with a new paint colour. so it was an insert in the door then paint.

Why do you tint the primer? I’m confused

I didn't know you could tint Stix. I thought the can says not to tint. Is there room in the can for 1/2 an ounce?

There is! I think the max they recommend is 2oz of gennex colourant per gallon, but double check with your paint store!

We just recently had our aluminum front door painted by professional. They used BM exterior satin finish, I’m not sure if it was Aura, but it probably was.
My issue is with the finish afterwards.
It’s orange peelish, I’m pretty sure he use a brush.
I asked him after he was done, why the orange peelish appearance, he said it would level. Well it never did.
Why did it happen, and what can we do to correct it?
    Thank you.

You’ll notice a previous comment I wrote months ago.
I was so excited about sharing my experience using Aura and how nice it held up.
Love love loved it, very nice finish.
I just wrote a comment today 5/23/23 about having our aluminum door painted by professional, just to change out color, and it turned out awful, the finish is an orange peelish appearance, not smooth like when I painted it myself years ago.
I’m pretty sure he painted it with BM Aura, but I don’t think he primed it.
Is priming that important??? To get a smooth finish!!!

Most likely it has more to do with how he rolled it or painting when it was very hot outside. If your door had already been painted previously then primer shouldn’t be an issue.

Hey, anyone know of a very deep black exterior door paint ??? I’m finding all the paints are coming out dark gray and I want a very deep black??? Any advice would be appreciated……😁

      @reverendsonhouse Před měsícem +1

Yes, use the same Benjamin Moore Aura Exterior paint used in the video. Aura Exterior, which has a "color lock" technology and boasts superior color retention. Benjamin Moore's Black (2132-10) & Black Satin (2131-10) are a couple of their deepest black colors.
