At 0:33 of part 5 you can clearly see another orb dangling in the top right of the screen. I'm guessing they have been dealing with multiple orbs from before this encounter. Also, I have another theory: the first sphere was taken using the same strategy- a psyker keeping it weakened while the Astartes take it down. The shackled sphere back then attempted to manipulate the Astartes, but failed, and due to that was captured. When it came into the proximity of the second sphere, it gave it a warning, telling it that it cannot take hold of the Astartes, and told it to instead attack the Alpha-class psyker (which is the reason the sphere suddenly stopped pushing against the Astartes).
However, the psyker overheard the warning and told the Astartes guards to recall the kill team, recognizing that they are in mortal danger as the plan will fail. Sadly, it was too late, and he was overwhelmed, but since the psyker's mind was now in the warp, controlled by the sphere, they were both vulnerable to warp entities, which led to them being attacked. In the moment before it's death, the sphere thought of a place it wanted to go to in an attempt to save itself- the homeworld of the Yu Vath- and that attempt to flee flung the Astartes there.

    • @arueshalaetablebuildingsociety
      @arueshalaetablebuildingsociety Před 4 lety +62

Perhaps it goes even further than that, perhaps the Psyker allowed the Warp to flow into him, knowing his guards would destroy his empty shell at the first sign of corruption and that the Sphere-mind would not be expecting this tactic.

I found on the full edit of the Astartes shorts, a very good transcription from Robert* ! And if you listen closely, it fits better. Here is his comment :
"the orbs start speaking to one and other,
      Orb1 "who is here?"
Orb2 "i have failed, brother" (couldn't stop the marines or corrupt them)
Orb1 "We have all failed" (he's captured)
Orb1 "the Astartes defy our touch" (they have a hard time controlling them)
Orb2 "You must return... Break your seal!" (returning from the warp to "normal" universe and get free from the inquisitors seal)
      Orb1 "Impossible, we'll never survive!"
Orb2 "You must take the alpha" (the inquisitor since he's the highest ranked and has psyker powers he is the "Alpha" if he controls him he has the entire ship the Daemon that is.)
as orb 1 (the daemon) does this he takes control of the inquisitor but before he can do anything the commander warns his troops ("Get them out Now!")and takes the soon to be possessed inquisitor out.
The impulsor sergeant (space marine) receives comms to watch out but its too late and the Daemon of orb 2 sucks them into the warp.
Warhammer 40k is extremely hostile space the moment he uses his psyker powers within the warp he lights up like a Christmas tree and other daemons kill him thus he lets the marines go and they get warped to a different location.
Fun fact... if the commander was a second or 2 slower the entire ship would have been corrupted and they would have died. Also possessed Psykers are very hard to kill,
blowing off the head doesn't mean they are dead you really have to dismantle the whole body."

At the end, where our 1 handed boi is thrown into a "room" I think that he might have been thrown through the warp to the home planet of the Yu Vath. This looks like it could be their catacombs. This could be because when the Vu Vath daemon engine like thing was attacked it thought about where it would go when it died and accidentally threw the Marine at its most "sacred" site. Additionally the platform like structure that the marine is stood on appears as if it could be some sort of teleporter or spot at which the Yu Vath could have accessed the warp. As they were clearly friends of the warp, having such a place in a spiritual centre like a catacomb would make relatively good sense. @Arch Warhammer

Stolen from another YT comment made by Rubentje:
For the people who are interested in more info. This is what the creator said on a Reddit AMA:
    What the two orbs said:
"...no escape. I have failed brother."
'We have all failed. The Astartes deny our touch. You must return, break your seal."
    "Impossible, (I) will never survive."
    "You must! Take them!"
Has your series caused GW to reach out to you in any fashion?
    - I do know that they're fans of the series.
In Ep.5 did they use the facemasks and spines to build the golden body or was it the other way around?
    - Both were made using knowledge they gained from the xenos beings.
The giant metal armour suit - what would it have been when complete?
    - Giant body would have been something more comfortable for the xeno beings to inhabit :)
    Who are the one-armed psychers?
    - One armed psykers were inner cabal of the rebellion in cahoots with the being in the orb.
The corrupted person is an inquisitor, not a techpriest.
What was the tenticle creature, how does it relate to the orbs, and what caused it to let go of the Space marines!!!?
    - Xenos :) The orbs or "Vessels" were for their own protection/travel. Once it broke free from it and attempted Warp travel, it was preyed upon by warp entities, causing it to let go.
What is the goal of the beings?
    - To very patiently subvert a system and prepare it for the rest of them. They need practice dealing with Imperials though...
Quick question, did the inquisitor from part 5 sacrifice himself to help out the astartes as they were being taken over like some of the theories suggest or were they incorrect? I'm talking about the scene where "the black smoke" (psychic power?) coming from him seems to be absorbed by the orb.
    - No sacrifice. But he did break his concentration to try and warn them...
WTF happened at the end of episode 5!?
    - Marines taken for a trip through the warp by the xenos being :) It was cut short and they ended up not quite where the xenos being was trying to take them...
'Cause I was wondering if you were willing to divulge the names of the Marines, specifically the Captain and lieutenant that smashed that Inquisition.
    - Main Squad were...
    Kohren (Sgt)
    Hahken
    Hassig
    Monos
    Jael
    Veteran Marine 'Commander' = Hakael
Beakie Marine = unnamed sorry :)
    - Just to clarify, the Astartes project is moving forward as an anthology piece (officially announced with a trailer fairly soon), containing 2-3 more short stories, jumping to different SM chapters for each one. After that? We'll see :)

"The Astartes (Also known as Space Marines) were sent in to deal with a planetary rebellion. However, the leaders or instigators of the rebellion escaped the planet, and were most likely on board the ship. They were likely aware that the mysterious orb was aboard since they already had one captured aboard their flagship, so they were sent in to kill the entire ship and capture/contain the orb for further study.
The guy in the red robes is an Inquisitor, whose job is to investigate anything that may threaten mankind and uncover hidden/unknown threats. These orbs were in some part responsible for the rebellion and therefore very dangerous.
Now, this Inquisitor was also a Psyker, which is essentially a sorcerer who draws their power from an alternate dimension known as the Warp. Basically, he was using his cosmic mind powers to observe the spheres with a form of magic vision that would reveal their 'true form' so to speak.
The golden body/statue they passed by looks like it was being built. It was possible it was meant to act as a host for the orb's intelligence when it was finished. There are some people speculating it could be an ancient, hyperadvanced AI, or at least the body of one, but personally that seems rather unlikely to me.
The Astartes, after fighting their way through the second orbs numerous attempts to attack/control them with its own powers, planted a bunch of devices on it that looked as if they were meant to contain the orbs powers.
Back on the flagship, the Inquisitor listens in on the orbs communicating to one another. They refer to each other as brothers and said they have failed, and that the Astartes defy their touch. It is possible they were trying to mind control the Astartes, but the Astartes have a mental resilience comparable to their physical capabilities, and are essentially immune to mind control attempts.
However, the Inquisitor overhears one of the orbs urging its brother to break free, while the imprisoned one says to 'Take the Astartes'.
The Inquisitor warns the Space Marine in charge of the mission, the guy with the white helmet and cape, that his men are in danger and need to leave immediately. The leader (who looks to be a Captain based on his insignia) sends off one of his men to go warn the others.
At this point, the imprisoned orb breaks free and apparently tries to possess the Inquisitor, perhaps by leaping its mind from the orb and into his body. This is what triggers the rush of visions and what causes him to burst into light. Now, possession is a well-documented phenomena in this universe, and the standard policy is to kill possessed beings on sight since they can do unspeakable damages, such as literally ripping the fabric of reality apart and opening a portal straight to the dimension they get their powers from, the Warp, which is full of demonic entities that would love for nothing more then to kill everything they can get their hands on. Thus, the Space Marines just murder him on the spot since at this point, he's already dead and quickly at risk of becoming host to something even worse.
Back on the rebel ship, the Astartes squad gets word of this, but the orb triggers before they can do anything, and starts sucking them in to what looks to be the Warp (the crazy red/black space where we see the squad trapped by tentacles) before the entity that has caught them is struck by some form of black cloud, which could be the backlash of its brother being 'killed' when it was in the middle of possessing the Inquisitor.
This causes the entity to release the squad, and they get thrown from the Warp and arrive on an alien world. This world may or may not be the same world they were in orbit of, but it could be anywhere in the galaxy. The giant skeletal statues surrounding them could be the remains of the same alien civilisation responsible for creating the orbs, or something else entirely. There is some speculation that they belong to a race of aliens known as the Necrons, who once ruled the galaxy some 65 million years ago, and have a lot of death iconography. It is possible the orb was something made with their technology. Another theory is that the orbs are made by another ancient alien race known as the C'tan, who are cosmic 'star gods' that granted the Necrons much of their power.
Other theories include the orbs being a cage built to house a demon, and the entity that we see in the Warp is what the real form of the being we hear speak. There is also some people saying it could be one of the more unknown alien races of the setting, like the Umbra, who appear as spheres of black shadows, or the Yu'Vath, beings who were noted for having formless shapes made out of unusual bone like materials. Or it could just be something the creator of the series made up based on elements of pre-existing lore. There isn't a definite answer yet, just a lot of speculation. The universe is very big and there are a lot possibilities for what it could be.
The final clip of the various different Astartes of different colours could be the next focus of the series. The creator has already said he knows what he's going to do next, and its going to be even better (!) then this series. The very final clip is a Space Marine fighting what may be an alien race called the Eldar, as the shots fired at him seems consistent with the sort of weaponry the Eldar use. He is supported by a Predator Battle tank in what looks like an urban setting, based on the burning building seen behind them.
If this interests you, or you want to find out more, there's a great guide on reddit that goes over exactly what the universe is all about. "

      @CognizantCheddar Před 4 lety +6

Whatever the orbs are, they seem to be associated with technology more advanced than the Imperium's, because the two guardians protecting the vault in the previous episode were robotic, and presumably the orb is behind their construction.
They weren't just human psykers, apparently. For one thing, they were too tall to be normal humans -- as tall or taller than the 9 foot tall Astartes. And that shield they used to stop bolts was a stasis field of some sort generated by tech rather than psychic ability, which is why the marine was able to push his vibroknife through it to a point where the field simply ceased to be in effect.
These observations, together with the ornate and distinctly human facades of the orb's constructions (including the giant golden man under construction on the table), suggests the orbs are lost _human_ tech from the Dark Age of Technology.
So you say the idea they're hyper advanced AI is "rather unlikely", but as much or more evidence supports that idea as any other theory.
Still, it's also just as plausible that the orbs are 100% xeno tech, with said xeno species happening to be near-human in morphology. The creator has specifically said that the planet the marines are teleported to is the orbs' dead homeworld. That _could_ refer to one of the countless worlds colonized by humanity during the DAoT... or just as likely, not.

A bit of summary from the comments of the original video:
The actual Yu'Vath are in the warp, and these spheres are their protection from warp entities and, at the same time, an anchor to the realspace. Two of them got captured by the Retributors/Inquisition (there is a second shackled sphere next to the first one, if you look closely). The third one is about to get captured as well. The Yu'Vath from the captured sphere warns his "brother" that Astartes cannot be mind-controlled (the main weapon of Yu'Vath), so he needs to break his protective sphere and escape throug warp, least he be captured as well. The second Yu'Vath is afraid to do so, so the first one suggests to capture the kill-team to use them as bait for warp entities. The second Yu'vath tries to do exactly that, but when he tries to teleport (probably to one of the Yu'Vath planets), he draws too much attention and gets eaten by a demon. The astartes get thrown out of the warp to the place the Yu'Vath was actually trying to get to.

Also, when the psyker is eavesdropping, the unbound orb is show above him and the bound orb, and the attack on the "Yu'Vath" comes from "below."

When one orb said the "Astartes deny our touch" I think it meant those pulses that attempted to assault the Kill Team Astartes Minds. It's defenses to corrupt had failed.
Also I don't think it said "Take the alpha", it said "Take them", meaning the Astartes which is exactly what it did next. That's why the Inquisitor warns the Astartes in command.
Smoke is used to represent the Inquisitors power. The time frame isn't clear so what if the smoke that attacks the Yu Vath is the Inquisitor. His attack makes it "drop" the Astartes, but the Inquisitor is ultimately defeated and hence corrupted and put down.

Well, I don't think that black fog that attacked the Yu'Vath was the inquisitor.
The first orb advises the second one to break its "seal" or "shield" in order to being able to "take them", which is possibly the orb's last line of defense or at least the last thing it could do to prevent itself form being captured like the first orb, since "the astartes defy our touch". The second orb answers "impossible, we will never survive.", which implies that this "seal" or "shield" the first orb speaks of functions as something like a cloaking device in the warp, similar to a gellar field.
Now, after the second orb does so and pulls in the astartes, we see that little scene where this black mist attacks the Yu'Vath. I guess that a predator of the warp noticed the Yu'Vath after it broke its shield and immediately went for its neck, so the concerns of the second orb were valid indeed.
What happened to the psyker before that could be seen as a little hint to what comes next. I think it's highly likely it wasn't the Yu'Vath toasting his mind but rather the same warp entity that also jumps the Yu'vath of the second orb afterwards. I mean, a Yu'Vath broke its shield and at the same time a obviously very powerful pysker lost his focus for a second in order to warn the nearby Astartes, so basically in the warp every nearby demonic entity would've seen two very bright lights flashing up. To a demon that's a goddamn neon billboard sign saying, "Hey yo, free meals over here!"
In terms of the planet at the end, I'm not quiet sure. Could be some sort of a pocket dimension, since it looks like some kind of a forsaken mausoleum and I'm having a hard time believing that a planet of a warptwisted civilisation such as the Yu'vath's could exist unnoticed by the Inquisition for so many years in the Calixis sector.

I think it said, "You must take them.", them being the Astartes, The Inquisitor also said something along the lines of "Recall them immediately!" The Astartes in question were then immediately bad touched into the no no dimension. I believe the Inquisitor was essentially turned into a bomb that would've opened a portal into massive-fuck-off-super-hell, and the Astartes were justified in their quick response, to absolutely bool on that fool. I agree with the theory behind the masks, as any psyker worth their bolt shot to the head would probably have used smite on the Astartes, as for the giant gold man, it would be a lot easier to rule over men if you looked like a man. That being said you could argue that the C'tan certainly didn't look like Necron'tyr, or certain ancient human deities certainly don't look human, or fully human, but I did say 'easier', people would worship a toaster if it started saying limericks (mechanicum). Yu'vath relics are regarded as highly dangerous during warp travel, as they can open holes into gellar fields and we all know what happens next.

    • @carlchristianlindalen9311
      @carlchristianlindalen9311 Před 4 lety +38

I believe the Inquisitors vision right before he warned the captain/veteran seargeant was metaphorical in nature, with the Astartes standing in the "palm of its hand" being flayed/absorbed/stripped. This then made the Inquisitor realize that they were not in control at all, and broke his focus, to warn them. An inquisitor would happily throw away a kill team so it makes little sense why he would break focus and risk demonic possession unless something far worse than simply loosing some marines was at stake.
The Orbs do say "break your shield/seal" to which the other say "we will never survive", meaning that they were afraid of what would happen if they lowered their defenses to act on the marines/Inquisitor. I do not think they meant that defeating the marines and inquisitor was a sure defeat, I think they were afraid of what the warp would do to them. The do so however, and go on the offensive on both the marines and the Inquisitor. The inquisitor is struck, but refocuses and struggles hard to contain the Orb, but pay close attention to what happens next. The Inquisitor is struck by some sort of feedback, triggering a complete fail-cascade on his end, resulting in him being unceremoniously removed from the equation by the Astartes at hand. That feedback however is reminiscent of that happened to the psyker twins when one of them died. I believe the Orb that was combating the Inquisitor was destroyed by a warp entity shortly after it lowered its defences, and that this wrecked the Inquisitors defence along with it. Simultaneoulsy the marines are taken. If you look closely you can see several shades drifting in the background of the warp scene. One of the shades destroys the Orb entity now that its defences are down, and the feedback shoots through the tentacles and into the marines teleporting them god knows where.

1:46 It's either a Tyrant class cruiser or Overlord class Battlecruiser, or perhaps a Dominator class cruiser if that's a Nova Cannon at the prow. It also has two full macrocannon batteries of four cannons each, whereas a Dauntless has six cannons on each broadside. A Dauntless also has a much thinner 'neck' or midships, with thinner 'wings' that are a little further forward and further ventral on the hull, which are tipped with oversized sensor arrays (or weapons, I don;t think its ever really been made clear either way). If you compare the hull layout of an imperial Cruiser (any type) to a Dauntless you will see that the ship depicted here is definitely a ship of the line.
Imperial battlecruisers don't possess the same augur masts as standard cruisers, so personally my money is on an Overlord.
Actually, now that i'm looking, this could be the 'Daemon Slayer' class, although it is unlikely as there is thought to only be one such ship, but it would kind of make sense. This class has no augur masts OR dorsal batteries, and has two macrocannon batteries for broadside, so visually it is a perfect match.
The Daemon Slayer class is equipped with a psychic cannon that can banish any daemon back to the warp, and against tyranid vessels it severs their link to the hive mind entirely. It would actually make sense for this to be the vessel depcited, as the Retributors are clearly specially equipped in the series for tackling these warp/psychic based entites.
perhaps the blast that destroys the entity in the warp is was actually fired from this vessel? It's a huge long shot, but it's kind of cool to theorize about.

@thelvadamee14 I very much agree with your assessment that it is a Dominator class cruiser. The entire design fits the shape and size of an Imperial Cruiser from the standard plastic model in Battlefleet Gothic. The lack of dorsal sensor masts is certainly not a justification for classifying the ship as a CL. None of the “official” Light Cruisers from GW or Forge World so closely mimic the cruiser style.
