To answer to your question just get a CDL period I don't drive truck I have it because it the best license class to have CLASS A on the road I drive any kind of vehicle

I believe it’s in people best interest to get a CDL if one wants to get into the transportation industry.

Just a quick question. What happens when a Hotshot CDL driver goes through a check station over weight and gets caught? Do things like that show up on your record? Another thing I would like ask is you dont get your loads scaled to make sure your not overweight? I dont understand why you would think having a CDL makes it so that you dont have to worry about all the things you say non CDL drivers have to worry about. When in fact I think having a CDL is indeed much more responsibility as you are carrying more weight.

If you register your weight at 40,000 pounds you should never exceed that because you’re equipment would be over burden. All you have to consider is to never get a load over 18-20,000lbs. So depending on the equipment you’re running will dictate how much you can haul, but that only relates to how long you want your equipment to hold up not DOT. Non cdl you must always be cautious DOT knows non cdl do not follow the rules the majority of the time. I’m not saying all the time.
If you go into a weigh station over weight then you will be shut down and have to off load weight to be legal, or they will just cite you, and yes if you get a citation it will go on your safety record.

But then again non cdl means smaller loads, cheaper repairs,, better gas mileage and able to get into tighter areas. But if you have a cdl then you get the sleeper attached to the cad and that makes it more comfortable with your house on wheels

I would say in my opinion you limit your competitiveness without a CDL.
      Thank you for comment.

Do you make more money cdl vs non cdl

The availability of freight is a lot higher with CDL consequently it keeps your tires rolling, and in some cases it does pay more due to the fact you would be able to haul heavier freight. Being non cdl you hope that a full load pops on the bored at 10,000 pounds or less but they are quite rare compared to 12,000-20,000lbs loads so you would be in the partial game and that game is no fun to play.
Thank you for the comment James! I hope that helped.
