      sir, then Nikon d5300 has a option NEF RAW or RAW is that different then setting a flat profile? or is it the same thing? cause i was under the impression that once i choose RAW on d5300 it will be flat.

    Great video, just what I was looking for, although I had some problems with importing the Picture Control Settings in my D5300 in the beginning but found some help on an other website. For anybody...
    Download files to my computer
    Insert SD-Card reader
    Create a new folder on your SD card, rename it NIKON.
    Open /NIKON, and create a new folder, rename it CUSTOMPC
    Copy files from PC to SD-Card in /NIKON/CUSTOMPC/ directory
    Insert SD-Card into camera.
    Turn Camera on
    Press MENU button.
    Open the "Shooting" menu
    Go to "Manage Picture Control"
    Go to "Load/Save"
    Select "Copy to camera"
    Select a profile and click it.
    Name it something useful.
    Save..
    Load that camera profile.
    Happy Shooting!

    I made a test using graded Cineflat vs Standard. I realized that you lose details in the midtones, and if you want to reduce noise in the shadows you should overexpose with cineflat. My conclusion is that it's best to use standard.

  • @newpix7555

    IMPORTANT!!!!!!
    Many of you reported that the procedure that I suggested you to follow seems to not work. I checked and actually something is changed.
    After contacting Dmitrii, the guy behind the website Nikon Picture Control Editor, he suggested me to do this:
    1. download NPC files. A files not rename!
    2. insert SD-Card to cardreader on PC.
    3. copy files to SD-Card in the directory /NIKON/CUSTOMPC/
    4. insert SD-Card in the camera
    5. open menu Shooting -> Manage Picture Control -> Load/Save -> Copy to camera
    6. copy custom Picture Controls from SD-card to custom Picture Controls C-1 through C-9 on the camera and name them as desired.
    Now the camera should find the NPC file.
    Let me know if this helps! I am planning to make a video tutorial about this!
    Cheers and.. SHOOT LEARN & IMPROVE!

    Very Nice.
    Wt focus mode & setting u generally use for video shooting with d5300 in the following:
    1.Static Scenery Shots
    2. Panning Shots
    3. Moving objects
    5. Self walking:vlogging style.

    My biggest problem with Nikon 5300, is that , at least with kit lens - it has issues Auto Focusing in low light. I know, i could use manual, but when I do my guitar covers, its essential it tracks me well, unfortunately this is not the case. It needs a lot of light to be able to lock on properly.

    Incredibly informative content, especially for a first time dslr owner(d5300) like myself. Subbed!! What would you advise as the upgrade lens from the 18-35mm kit lense for video?

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  Před 7 lety +2

      Yo man! Thanks for the support! If you want to keep the zoom flexibility you go straight to the 17-50 2.8 OS HSM SIGMA lens. Nice piece of versatile and sharp glass.
      If you want to achieve the highest quality possible then go for the Nikon 35 or 50 mm primes 1.8. Less versatility, but they are faster lenses (more light comes in, you keep your ISO low) and much sharper (although for video it does not really matter).

    Could you elaborate on why does the shutter speed has to be twice the frame-rate of the video? is it not enough if it's set to be 1/60 for 60FPS video? I will shoot some clips, and want to slow down the speed in some parts, but keeping a 1/120 shutter speed is tough if the lighting is not optimal, and requires me to raise ISO-level a bit too high for good quality.

BUT... i cant find Cineflat from the list. was it removed from the list? thanks. by the way.... somehow i already new some basics of premiere pro so i really wanted these new flat profiles for my jpeg videos for color grading. thanks again.

      In that case you need a wide angle lens so that you do not have to get that far from it. The kit lens should do just fine if you have proper lighting (just have it at 18mm of 20mm and it should be wide enough!).
      If you need a faster aperture (to let in more light and avoid getting high ISO) just get the Sigma 17-50 2.8. Check my review on it!

      Yo! Yes it is a condenser mic and phantom power is not required as I can hook it directly into my mic-in jack of the laptop. However, when you put it on the sound card with phantom power the quality is much better!

    nice Video..Nice and helpfull Information., I have Nikon d5300 too.., until now my favorite PIC is Flat 11 because i not yet try Alvaro..and i wanna try right now after download..hehe.., by the way.. in flat 11 why i found in dark area on my footage its a some noise? i shoot in night use ISO 800, any suggest the max ISO for each Flat PIC? for more clean footage? thank you..

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Gutama,
      it is perfectly normal to have noise in the "shadows". Afterall the flatprofiles are sort of in camera manipulation of image (like raising ISO for instance). However, the advantage is that you can later crush those shadows and decide how dark you want them to be. The noise will be lost in the blacks.
      I usually do not shoot at any specific ISO for each profile pic. I just try to never go above iso400 as it WILL be for sure noisy. Much better get creative in the scene and add more light or change location or re-think about the scene you want to shoot if really the noise is unbeareable.
      Usage of noise-cancelling plug ins (like NEAT) is also helpful! :)

    • @GautamaARTS
      @GautamaARTS Před 7 lety

      Newpix thank for reply.., its possible to change noise into black? yeah i do to use neat to help denoise but i think if use neat the quality of sharpness in all footage its decrease.., isnt? yup great idea to more creative use light external and other tools to make great scene.., thank.. :)

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  Před 7 lety +1

      When you grade into Premiere just push down the "blacks" slider into the color correction tool. Also try with lowering the shadows.
      Generally when you deal with flat profiles, you have to push the contrast a little bit. So don´t be afraid to experiment with the blacks and whites sliders.
      Should I do a video on this? :)

    Hello I am using a Nikon D5300 . I click pics in NEF file with cineflat picture control . But when i open pics in lightroom or Image viewer first the NEF file looks flat but seconds later they reload then the pics have sharpened , increased brightness, etc etc . Why is that answer anyone ?

    • @newpix7555

      Hi! This is because lightroom ignores the camera profile and applies its own standard interpretation of the RAW data. If you want lightroom stop doing that follow up this tutorial

Some hissss sound is present all the time. This is my first dslr that s why I am noob at this. Thanks for your replay. I am actually surprised that these devices such as nikon 5200, 5300 and others need to have mic for normal video use exepcet if you mute the sound :-D

    Nicee videoo very helpfull.., em.. i see the flat profile nikon, cineflat, flat 11,ect. Have a noise..., Cannot clean even use lower iso, how fix it? Is there tools or setting maybe that can make clean from noise? Thank b4

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  Před 6 lety +1

      De-noisers are available as plugins in Premiere or DaVinci Resolve, however I think you need to buy them.
      The best thing is to expose right your footage. Usually if you look at your screen it looks ok just because the flat profiles raise the blacks and the shadows.
      My tip is to buy a cheap grey card and use it to nail the exposure, you should not have that much noise. The noise however goes away when you correct the flat profile and add contrast, it will get lost into the darks (most of it).
      Unfortunately we are not dealing with full frame, so noise is there and it is unavoidable.
      Recently I noticed that my D7200 looks very clean at ISO 800 even when compared with ISO 400/500/640. Weird. I think this flat profiles create artefacts that need to be taken into account.

      Gautama ARTS go back to using the Neutral profile and drop your 'sharpening', 'contrast', 'brightness', and 'saturation' as preferred.
      I'm using a D5200 and found that my custom CineFlat profile was giving me crazy amounts of noisy crosshatched lines; even in great outdoor lighting. Switched back to Neutral profile and I haven't had an issue.

    I'm sorry, I think I have a problem- When I try to download the custom picture profile I receive a .NCP file, not a .zip...So my D5300 doesn't read it. How can I do?

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  Před 7 lety +1

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  Před 7 lety

      I can underestand. Unfortunately it is about the lens. I upgraded my kit lens with a Sigma 17-50 f2.8 (I have a video review on the channel) and the quality improved a lot. Much more sharpness and no need to increase ISO a lot since the lens is fixed 2.8 in the whole focal range ;)

    • @hooichu2630
      @hooichu2630 Před 7 lety

      Okay .If like 750D does not have the video's quality problem for their 18-55 mm lens right ?!

    • @newpix7555
      @newpix7555  Před 7 lety

      I think the overall quality is the same. All kit lenses suck, especially for video. I think you will solve the problem getting a vintage used prime lens. Maybe 35 or 50 mm f1.8. You gotta use the tripod because they are not image stabilized. But unitil you save for them, I will keep playing with the kit one, it is not that bad afterall. You have to find creativing solution to keep ISO low. Such as work with better lighting on the scene. Consider invest in some lighting, which is much more important than any gear you could buy.
