    You're a perfect duo for Bo Burnham. One person to pick up on all the musical talent, and the other to pick up on the lyrical genius.

      I was thinking the same thing! A lot of reactors either pick up on one or the other, I guess just whichever they’re naturally more drawn to. But it’s nice to see a channel where we discuss both. Because as impactful and introspective as his songs can be lyrically, he emphasizes that which his choices in the music, in his tone and pronunciation, in his use of vibrato. Bo doesn’t just sing what sounds good, every musical choice he makes is very intentional to convey exactly what he wants. Here he sings to us like a carnival barker would. Like come on in and see the craziest and scariest things on earth. Don’t worry there’s cotton candy and slushies. He wants you to not just hear how scary it is, he wants to you feel it, too. This man is a true genius.

    Something important to note is that when he's singing this song he's literally playing the personification of the internet, and he's speaking to the youth of today. The part where he says "not very long ago, just before your time, right before the towers fell, circa '99" he means the "just before your time literally. He's writing a song in 2020 to adolescents on the internet. Warning them. He made a movie called Eighth Grade about the way kids now are completely entrenched in the internet and social media and how it's affecting them. The bit about two year olds with ipads, and saying it was always the plan to put the world in your hand...he cares a lot about the youth and has said in interviews that he relates best to kids today, moreso than his own generation.

    Let me come in late and say TECHNICALLY your both right at the start of the video. The reason bo has such a HUGE fan base is because he is both funny AND thought provoking. He is actually vocally and musically talented ( I think he plays like 4 instruments) And it IS important and we DO love it but he’s also quirky and sometimes super random. So all of its important and both of y’all are right. The main fact to consider is, in less than 3 minutes he got you two to nearly argue over his one song. This very talented and brilliant man got you both to think and react to his content.

      Closest he has to "regular" music is his bar heavy stuff like Eff, Hell of a Ride, and Words Words Words. But they arent your classic "regular music" then again, who says what is and isnt regular music? Filthy Frank had a line about this in one of his old songs. Lemme look it up and ill edit this comment with what he said.
      Edit: its in his song Rice Balls.
      [Outro]
      (Uh, we want real music)

      (Huh, huh, huh)
      Bro, I didn't even know real and fake music existed

      Like, who says I can't drop shit while making a culinary funny video at the same time, you know?
      Whatever man, it's your boy Pink Guy, Pink Omega; whatever the fuck you wanna call me, I don't give a fuck

    Firstly, I loved this reaction because y’all have great chemistry and the playful bickering was hilarious. Second, I view this as Bo playing the “spirit of the internet” and that it’s antagonist to a certain level, but can’t take blame for anything because it’s not the internet’s fault someone wants to get into the fucked up stuff; he just presented it to you when you asked. Do you want to watch funny pet videos or research how to get away with murder? That’s up to you to look up. And the uncaring soul of the internet will give you what you ask for. He both is and isn’t playing the villain, that’s what the sunglasses are for, essentially acting as faceless.

    • @Katy-sh3ru
      @Katy-sh3ru Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah, I think the mirrored shades are to portray how the Internet can see us all the time, but we can't see 'it' as a whole entity, even when it's telling us what it is in the song.

    • @thechad4485
      @thechad4485 Před 2 lety +3

      The line “Apathy’s a tragedy and boredom is a crime,” exists as the business model of the internet as a whole. You’re not allowed to not have a feeling or opinion towards any given subject, and you must be perpetually engaged with infinite material.
      Basically, we’re all the intellectual property and slaves of the internet as a whole, and the corporations that control it. Addicts without regulation or help. And the song being portrayed as if the internet is a carnival barker trying to sell you on the mysteries hidden behind the curtain (that are almost certainly hoaxes or frauds)really drives home that idea.

    • @Katy-sh3ru
      @Katy-sh3ru Před 2 lety +2

      The even scarier thing than that, to me, is that that 'Apathys a tragedy and boredom is a crime' has become a social and cultural command. A moral imperative. It exists beyond the realm of the internet. I think that tendency predated the internet (the devil makes work for idle hands) So the architects of the kind of internet we have now turned a tendency into a self reinforcing business model.

    4 that I really love for different reasons than everything else that I also love are: Eat A Dick, Eff, Nerds, and Rant (this Rant is different from Kanye Rant)

Written, shot, edited and performed all in one room by himself (consider this when watching the cameras on the "vaccinate your kids" part. Also while it's not technically a Oner, those mood shifts cued by the lighting changes, he does those "live". You see him picking up the remote to change them, which is a detail I really like that you don't catch on first watch. He doesn't have to, he could edit around it, but you see it in a bunch of songs (the laugh track in _Comedy,_ the background flashes in _30,_ and of course the discoball headlamp effect in _Content)_ have all these low-tech special effects that help to enhance the mood and message of the special. It's all just so terribly clever.

    It’s helps to know that Bo himself got famous from doing funny videos on CZcams (before if was popular circa 2006) which transitioned into huge vine popularity and eventually he became very well known as a stand up comedian. But this song is him speaking on the highs and lows of having so much access to “anything and everything all of the time” it’s very overwhelming for people especially younger kids. He also struggles with crippling anxiety and this song is just a glance at someone’s headspace who is struggling with that. Love your perespectives on Bo!! They remind me of the Reese's commercials: "You got chocolate in my peanut butter!" "You got peanut butter in my chocolate!" And I just want to say, "guys, BOTH the lyrics AND the music are important!" But why interrupt their flow lol?

    Bo was OG internet. He started on Vine and has several of the most infamous Vines you see in Vine compilation vids. Then he was one of the first CZcamsrs, and he was one of the first people to get internet famous in a time when internet famous didn’t exist yet

    Love you guys and your reactions so far, I'm going through each one and enjoying them! I'm sure you'll find out eventually, but of course in this clip Bo is playing a caricature of the Internet. Almost like a sort of host, if you've ever seen Pippin the musical, it's very similar to the Leading Player. Just another mark in showing Bo's musical talent and using that idea to portray the entirety of the Internet. Can't wait to see the rest of ya'lls reactions!

    Ha, you guys are a crack up. I was like, right on De....Then, it was like, right on Dre. You get the feel just from the start, it feels like circus music and speeding up, just like the internet. There has got to be something about his Beatle's John Lennon persona with the round glasses [at least, felt like that to me and knowing him, that meant something, too!]. Sorry, I know this is old now, but I can't resist commenting :)

    The modulation on the bridge is super important. Going from disdain and disgust on "You... *you*, insatiable you" to mild adoration on "you... unstoppable, watchable" is part of it. It's the way the corporations who market to us see us. We're simultaneously gross consumers and the driving force of their success. It's actually quite disturbing.

    He is the internet in this song and is the villain.
    Also, not many people notice the genius of the LIGHTING in this song. Starts with stars representing the ever expanding vastness of the internet. It then goes into talking about the the internet when it was just blogs and chat rooms with no stars since it was nothing like it is today. It talks about the 2 year old before they got hold of the ipad with the blue/purple/green/red light representing him. He (internet personified) maniacally laughs because he knows the kid is now part of the internet world ... Then he finished the song with the stars and the kid's colors mixed together because we all get introduced to the internet and it's part of our lives forever, he wins.
    Also adding this: Did you notice as he sings at the first and keeps adding things you can do on the internet to the list, it gets faster and faster? Simulating a sensory overload, because that's what the internet can be ... Anything and everything all of the time ...
    His Inside special won 3 Emmys by the way and was nominated for 6 I believe.
