So I've been trying to decide between the XQ50 Pro and the older XG50 that is at about the same price now (closeout). I'm leaning to the XQ50, and this helps.. thanks.

Appreciate your time doing the review, have a question though, how is 17 micron better than 12? I recently purchased a thermion 2 pro lrf and using it next to my Iray Rico 384 for coyote hunting is big disappointment, image is way better on the Rico, especially in high humidity. I'm curios to try the xq50 just to compare it with the other ones I use.
Haven’t used an Iray thermal yet! Would like to. Here is a link to the video that made me understand the difference between 12 micron and 17.

@@OwnTheHunt I think you misunderstood bud, if you watch the video again you'll see that the 12 is better. I have 9 units between scopes and monoculars and 12 micron is definitely better than 17, on both 384 and 640 sensors. Thanks for replying 👍

Thank you for watching! The rifle is a custom AR15 chambered in 6.5Grendel made by Specialized Dynamics and I love it! the Tripod is the Sunwayfoto T3240CS and the attachement on my rifle that allows it to connect to the tripod is called an MLOK arca plate. If you have an AR with an MLOK compatible rail then MLOK arca plate is what you need. If you have a Keymod AR rail then Keymod Arca plate is what you need.

Have you ever tried an ATN thor4 4-40 and compare it? I like ATN 18-hour run time. I don't understand why Pulsar installed an LRF on the scope when it doesn't move the crosshairs after ranging.
I know the ATN LRF once ranged it automatically moves the crosshairs so all you do is shoot, and it's spot on as long as you have inputted the right ballistic information in the unit.
I am on the fence on this one. I had recently seen some Chinese crap that once again was clearer than the new Pulsar thermal binoculars.
It's sad that the Chinese make clearer thermal optics than the rest of the world.
Hi RL J. I ran the Thor 4 4-40 for about 18 months. If you call ATN and barter with them you can get it for the same price as this scope so I can see why you ask.
ATN thermal contrast settings are the worst, I think because of that they have 70% of the image quality that the rest of the options have. On really cold clear nights they’ll work as good as any scope. But as soon as it gets foggy, or windy, or warm weather their image gets rough fast.
I liked the ballistic settings and had that setup. In the cold where the rangefinder has its own small battery it would act up and quit working. I’d have a coyote at 100-150 yards but the last thing that was ranged was 360 yards and I had to try to do the math backwards and messed my hunt up. Anytime I’d go through the menu and accidentally hit the up or down button when there was only left or right options the scope would freeze up. If only ATN had worked on quality upgrades as fast as they did technology upgrades they’d be leading the thermal industry.
I would take this scope over a 4-40 every time.

how does this compare with the Thermion 2 XP50 Pro? Is the extra resolution of the XP50 worth it?
The xp50 pro is really nice. It’s a little less base mag but the image quality is definitely much better. I would say you definitely don’t need the extra image quality in order to hunt and identify game but if you just want the best then it’s worth the extra money. I am still running this scope and I still really enjoy it. Next season I would like to bump up to a 640 scope.
Have same scope! Been running pulsar for 4 years now from trails to thermions! Definitely best pulsar scope I have had👊 How do you like that sunwayfoto tripod? I have two of them I don’t think they get enough credit for the price and durability 👍🇺🇸
Glad you asked about the tripod! It’s very impressive for the size/weight and also price. I love the head design, I think it is better than any ballhead I have used. The legs on the pod don’t get quite tall enough for how I like to stand behind it. Sunway definitely makes a great quality product and I look forward to trying more of their stuff!
@@OwnTheHunt I’m 5’8” so height is ok for me, I went from bog lol to this and never looked back! I had to add some locktight and put some lubricant on ball but that’s it, they get used a lot and zero issues now over a year on one and half the price of some other ones 😁just subbed too good videos! I wished I had the time to make videos 👊

Have a chance to buy one of these used (they never shot with it, impulse buy) for $2000. Still a solid option? Also comes with an ADM Mount
If it’s legitimate then absolutely buy it!!!!! That’s $1500 less than they could sell it for!!! Do your homework to make sure they aren’t scamming. There are tons of scams happening these days.
Just got mine yesterday and I recorded some coyotes in the pasture last night. When I downloaded the video there’s no sound, anything I did wrong?
So I found that the cap that covers the charge port needs to be tight tight. So the slots in that cap line up with the microphone and allow sound to pass through. I hope this helps. There is also a setting in the menus to enable the microphone.
Can that scope be used in daylight hours ? Besides night time hours
Sure can! Looks the same in the day as it does at night.

Worth upgrading from pulsar thermion 2 xq50?
Really depends but the new sub 25mK sensor makes a huge difference especially in humid conditions.
They need to put out some better direction with there scopes as much as I paid for the scope I wouldn’t think that I would need to goggle to find out what the icons in the menu even mean
There is a lot of good documentation on their website. The icons are explained well in that. Also there are lots of videos that explain how to do different things with them. Are you struggling with anything in particular?

Yes I have a video where I went over zeroing this scope.
Would this be legal to import to Canada, and would it hold on a 30-06 bolt action.
It is recoil rated to work on a 30-06! I’m not sure about getting them shipped to canada sorry.

Does this scope have to be zeroed at night
No sir! Thermal works and looks the same day or night.
Still think they royally messed up discontinuing the Trail 2 line.
I did love my trail 2!!! But technology advances and it can become very hard to continue producing older tech.
I don’t like the fact that the menu knob is on the side. Very uncomfortable for a left handed shooter. Other manufacturers have it on the top. Much easier to get to.😢
I’m a left handed shooter and that didn’t really bother me. I just reach over top of the scope.
