So now to one of the most popular #MercedesAMG’s on the channel: the new GLE 53 4matic+ with 7 Seat option! We have never reviewed the 7 Seater GLE, its a pretty great option vs the GLB and GLS in MB’s Line up, and offers more room than the X5 equivalent. We also haven’t driven the UK spec version: it’s a car that doesn’t have the “Dynamic Plus Pack” option that Europe does, with upgraded steering wheel, bigger red brakes and other changes. So it will be interesting to see how this stacks up vs the “top” EU version.
The formula is the typical 53 AMG one, with the in-line 6 turbo AMG Engine with Hybrid EQ boost. We have 435BHP 520nm on tap, with a EQ hybrid boost of a further 22BHP and 250nm: allowing for a 0-60 of 5.2 seconds. We also have a fully variable power in the AMG 4matic+ all wheel drive system.
A big bonus with the GLE 53, is how it really looks like a full 63 version, with the ENTIRETY of the car sharing cues with the flagship GLE63S. To see how much they match, I’ll return to Affalterbach to check out the GLE63S as well as hear the #AMG performance exhaust of that car!! The V8 exhaust vs the Inline 6 is a pretty interesting battle!

I drove and reviewed the AMG GLE 53 SUV, and Coupé and boy, I loved them! It has a different exhaust sound compared to the AMG GLE 63 S for sure. Drive feel is unlike anything I’ve driven before. Agile, sporty and doesn’t quite feel like an SUV. It’s also the most featured model on my channel. I wonder why.
Great presentation on the GLE53, do you know when you might be able to demonstrate GLE 63 S ? When do they come out in the UK?
Good review and love this engine too, however I suspect it’s not under powered as you said, it’ll be more than enough for most of the people in this category.

The difference when fully specced out is 30k between the two but the massive performance difference really warrants going for the 63. Even if you go light on the options the 63 is a better deal. If the 53 had more HP and s 4.4-4.6 0-100 then it would make more sense to get it
When you review the GLE63S it would be great to put it alongside and compare the M156 and M157 equipped version of the W164 and W166 63 models

Very interesting and useful video Raz and I am delighted that you don’t like black interiors either...at last I have a friend! In fact MB U.K. give us a very tired and limited colour range that has been out for seemingly decades! Also...YES..the GLB really is an ugly thing..,,it thought it looked like an old Panzer Troop helmet!!, so an 53 AMG Premium Plus is good but a shame it loses the chassis controls...another U.K. Spec failing. Then you mention the Cayenne GTS.....and I head back to their configurator...hmm...Thank you again!! stay safe.😀😀😀😀

You can get the AMG controls on the steering wheel for the 53 in Austria at least. ;)

Well, some markets would be slaughtered on tax with the emissions and engine displacement of that car, China for instance. So this is would prove more popular. Plus, if I were on the hunt for a GLE AMG, I’d take the 53. The 63 models are more suited to the C, E and S Class models cause they would feel sportier. So the more efficient engine in the 53 would suit the family car nature of the GLE.

@@magnustan841 Yes AMGs are even building Beijing Benz A35 AMG in China right now. I think it won't be long until all non 63 AMGs are being produced in China to push the sales over there. So in the end the 63s will remain as the true AMGs. 6 cylinder engines are just boring to drive compared to V8s. I have a Panamera 4E and as much as I love the car, I would still be aiming at the GTS models with V8 as my next replacement.

As ever you've knocked this review out of the park. Bit of a misnomer of a car though... I would have the 63 for the engine and dynamism, but then I wouldn't because it's a SUV. Much prefer the likes of the E63, hoping there will be a coupe version that comes to sit above the rumoured 4-cylinder 'C63'.

A great video! Does the AMG Active Ride Control with roll stabilization make the ride quality stiffer or more comfortable in general vs. GLE53 stock suspensions?
Yes, it is.
Way more comfortable night and day. Drove one with active ride and it was more comfortable in sport plus than a car without it in comfort

What's wrong?Bad braking (fading at high speeds and spongy brake pedal), questionable steering, slow shifting when downshifting, the passenger seat belt, when not fastened, crashes into the pillar (who designed this crap?), The navigation system is prehistoric, voice recognition is painful, the leather of the seats (Nappa) is very strange, the driver's side mat is thick like an onion leaf (after 15,000 km it has almost a hole where I rest my heel). We have never had these problems with AMG. Also, Audi assistance really sucks. Don't get me wrong, the Quattro drive is a thousand times better than the 4Matic, the RS4 has devastating acceleration but, overall, it's not a convincing car. Finally, I must say that it is not pleasant to see a Seat or a Skoda and confuse them with an Audi ...

53 chipped is probably the way to go. Lighter and cheaper to buy/run than the 63, with almost same performance. The augmented sat nav is in my car - it sounds nice but the graphics need to be stronger - difficult to see and sometimes appear a bit too late to be useful. The front facing camera gets washed out in strong sunlight. Small point, but the wipers on the GLE look to be exactly the same as on my car - not strong enough to prevent the wiper blades from shuddering. Small points, but slightly annoying when you’ve just parted with or PCP’d £80k ($110k) or so...
i disagree. 429hp to 620hp is a big difference. Also , even though its cheaper to buy , the V8 63 models will hold their value more since they're being discontinued soon./ Sure , you can chip a 53 to make 510hp with ease but you can also say the same with the 63. Also , the 63 has completely different engine characteristics . Im happy mercedes is making a inline 6 engine again but im happier with the v8 bi-turbo.
Looks really nice! The GLE is one my favorite Mercedes. But I’d prefer the new V8 petrol SQ7/SQ8.

In the U.S., we get pretty much all the options available and get many features as standard for the GLE 63s. But the base model GLE 63 is not sold here.

MotorTrend timed GLE 53 Coupe at 4.7 seconds to 60 mph. I think 5.3 is conservative and for the 100 km/hr.
We’ve run it a number of times, never been quicker than 5.3 so far. Weird!
@@RemoveBeforeRace aha, interesting! Motortrend usually does have rather fast numbers for their 0-60 tests. But for me, the overall dynamics are more important. The fastest car I've driven officially did 6.3 to 60 mph, and I loved it. Don't know what 5.3 would feel like, but it is plenty for me.
you're correct. In good conditions with warm tires, this car can easily achieve a 4.7 0-60 which I have in mine. It really just depends what conditions you're accelerating in. Obvoiusly if its rainy and wet out like in this video, its gonna be slower then on a dry road lol.

They should just call it the GLE 500. AMG and M are diluting their brand like no tomorrow.
How do you call a 53 doesn't affect how good or how bad a 63s model is. Both AMG and M are growing at a rate so high that they should do a lot to their lineup and to make more normal people recognize their Brand. Enthusiasts will still go for the 63s model no matter there's a 53 or not.
@Ross I don’t think Audi have done any of that to be honest, the worst they’ve done is putting diesels in S models
@@jamisonz3365 The issue is that they have become so similar (in terms of looks and design) that people who shell out big bucks for the 'real thing' feel that they are not getting something as exclusive anymore. This effectively lowers the perceived prestige of the AMG or M brand.
@Ross At least the badging is different. Now everyone and their dog claims they drive an "M" or "AMG" car.
@Joey Brooks M Power and 'real AMGs' have the unique design drom front, side to rear and a different exhaust note. It's easy for car people to tell the difference. A bad example in this case is Porsche. Even to most car enthusiasts it's still so hard to tell the differences between Entry model, S, GTS and Turbo.(except 911) Compared to Porsche top models lineup, AMG or M is already like a showoff car.

I have to say, the quality and reliability of the GLE is sadly lacking.
The MBUX simply doesn’t perform.
The ADAS camera’s have design flaws in that condensate obscure the lens
The climate control has defective temperature sensors
Perhaps worse is simply the lack of customer support from Mercedes.
Parts backorder for months
Technical support to dealers very lacking.
