By that logic Catachan comes first. They DON'T have commisars because they just "loose" them accidentaly. Not that commisars are needed in that regiment.

Catachans make up excuses for why their commisars keep disappearing. Kriegers file the excecution reports like real men.
Jesse Booth catachan: he stepped on a mine. in the middle of the base. while no one else exploded. even when building the base even thought there was a mine in the middle of the base.
krieger: he was executed for cowardice because he ordered us to retreat while we were charging at a fortified position having lost more than half the regiment.

About the line formation, there is a psychological element their. Both as a moral boost for the Janissaries, standing shoulder to shoulder with their brothers at arms, and the intimidation factor of watching an army of steely warriors marching in perfect unison, clad in death masks. Continuing forward seemingly unfazed by your gunfire, or even your artillery cannon. Honestly that might be more intimidating than even Space Marines.
So essentially they are 40k's interpretation of Persian Immortals?

The Immortals of Persia were an effective shock troop, as they marched headlong into aline, clad in death masks, and seemingly unphased by the death of their comrades. But this factor spreads to other regiments, such as the Death Korps, and the Armageddon Steel Legion. Very much intimidating.
I imagine them starting to slowly grin behind those masks as they count down the last few meters to achieve the optimal close distance for their bayonet charge.

Are you guys nuts? This guy does better than ANY ONE ELSE in doing warhammer Content. Right now the prevailing Online game for warhammer is currently Total War Warhammer, Of course most of his content is going to be for that, along with a new game on the horizon. Plus if you actually watched his videos he has a soft spot for Warhammer Fantasy. The amount of videos he edits and makes is MORE than enough for most of his viewers. Just be patient, he will get to more 40k war. Just dont jump his shit because he isnt making what you want. This is his channel.

I always knew 'of' this regiment but knew little about them. This was really cool. Greatly enjoyed this.
My old 40K GM was a huge fan of the Armageddon Steel Legion owing to their 3rd Edition doctrine of being the only Guard regiment at the time able to field a full Mech Guard list instead of the standard foot sloggers with tank support. He also accused the Death Corps of Krieg of ripping off the Steel Legion's schtick (since they were introduced after the Legion,) with their uniforms being based on WW1 Germans when the Legion took inspiration from WW2 Germany.

If there's one thing I don't like about the Dawn of War games, even with mods like UA, is that you don't really get a lot of variants with the appearance of your guardsmen. It's usually like Cadian Shock Troops, Catachan Devils, sometimes Death Korps, and Steel Legion. It's never the Praetorian Guard, never the Drop Troops, and most certainly NEVER the Janissaries. I want more screentime for the less well-known Guard regiments. Yes, I know the former are usually picked because they're the most instantly recognizable, but come the fuck on, I want to see these, Talarn, Tanith, Attila and others too.
Thanks for this video Arch. I was going to kitbash my IG models into Maccabians to work with my Sisters of Battle, so this lore video helps give me a better understanding of them.

I didn't know anything about Warhammer except that Dawn of War was a cool game i played at my uncle's house once until I found your channel. Now I fucking love Warhammer, I collect the Imperial Guard, mostly Cadian Shock Troops but also some Nordian Iron Guard. I love the games and every video you put gets me excited and makes me want to collect more and more armies.

@@robertoleary5470 the vallhalan 597. a mixed sex regiment that took a full male urban combat regiment and a full female garrison regiment and after dealing with a nid splinter fleet and the men lost the most of the command group and the females lost many of their front line troops and given the way the administratum just said okay mush together in traditional oopsie. cain made them an amazing troop by mixing it up and adding the.two groups numbers together

He probably got bored of it, I wouldn't blame him. Neither the game play nor the "story" seem to be remotely interesting. The only interesting thing I've experienced in this game so far is Arch's commentary.
+Brian Donovan petty much everyone seems to be the holder of the idiot ball. The only thing amusing about that game seems to be pointing out all of the flaws and things that don't get explain.
Arch is like the straight man. For if this was a a sit com like south park, he would play a very important role in making this shit as entertaining as possible. For with out the straight man it's just a pile of idiots being idiots.
That's my point. The game is garbage but having Arch just heckle the living hell out of it and make all sorts of random commentary/jokes, was very entertaining.
To the point where the fact that it's just as bad if not worse then mass effect 3 is...well yes I can see why Arch would just say "fuck this" and stop when there so many more worthy games to play and lore to go through.
Even star wars is more redeemable at this point...

Well, Macharius once had a model. The rest doesnt have models, because they dont appear really in the battles of 40k (or in the case of Thor in battles at all). Unlike Celestin for example, they didnt get reincarnated to beat crap up later, so they are not "Living" Saints, just saints (as in: Dont get back). Although a Ollanius Pius model in 30 k would be awesome.

Well, Macharius has/had a model. However, beeing a wargame we have seen the problem with such "mortal" characters: Shitload of points, but still a man. And with Thor, well, kind of hard to put his fluff in crunch. Not that I wouldnt like it.

There's been several throughout the Lore, Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader and Only War goes into detail with many, including a Psyker becoming a Saint. Just in the Calixis Sector alone there is the following Male Saints.
Drusus the Warrior (What Archie has said about him) :)
Quivvar Nog of Fedrid (a Missionary who spread the word of the emperor to the most primitives of mankind across the sector)
Vidicus the Forlorn (Warrior Confessor who was slain in battle against the Orks despite uniting the guard near him into unbelievable feats of heroism)
Rybel Gorth the Watcher of the Dark (A psyker who sacrificed himself to save sacred knowledge rather than it be lost or taken by the Ancient Enemy).
