"it's a very chilly sunday morning in san diego"
*laughs in north east/chicago/mid west*
@WheresTheAnyKey1 - lol, you got me ...
Very chilly San Diego is mid 50’s F.
Northern Washington state next to the Canadian border and the rockies here. Lol
@Random Workshop - I grew up in central Canada, I have no excuses ...
I a Florida person now, I absolutely love being freezing at 69 degrees. Back in my younger days, 69 was pretty dang nice but I'm done with that nonsense lol.
I met a guy who has one a SLC over in Michigan, has a E63 BMW v10 in it, I've heard a lot of loud cars but this thing idling was louder than my m3 redlining, it was so beautifully made and it fit so perfectly in the car. Truly wish I could see and hear it again.
The sound of a BMW v8 is one of the best sounds ever heard. V10's are even better. (Off topic) I ran into a guy in my small town with an illegal right hand drive made in Japan by hand, 2011 skyline gtr in burnt orange pearl essence, I live in a small town of about 4000 people tops including rural outskirts, so this was shocking at the time, I seen it IN 2011 when it was first after concept.
I rode my pedal bike a mile or two to the carwash where he stopped, dropped my bike in the middle of the road and started taking pictures with my flip phone at the time. He got mad a little cause it really wasn't legal in the states, and I got a fee snaps of his license plate so he kind of flipped out on me. But man, something I thought I would never see in my life and I have proof to boot. Guy was from Canada. A lawyer. Paid $112,000 for it cash. Had it made from top to bottom.
@@johnbraucher1499 I'm confused. They didn't make a 2011 skyline. If you are talking about a 2011 nissan gtr why was it illegal?
Michigan is known for a lot of pot holes

this is the link for that bmw slc, it was build by zakari3030 and the customer dani g
I just watched the video for that car a few moments before this one, it has electric doors and velocity stacks. Very beautiful car.
It's great you're so close to mexico in sd. makes those pulls possible.
Lol that's 100% not mexico lol
TheDonCucaracho yea it is Mexico contrary to common belief Mexico is actually really close to anywhere and everywhere. Everytime I want to street race I just go over to Mexico, it takes me a couple minutes, I live in Canada btw.
TheDonCucaracho I just hop on the freeway then boom before I know it I’m in Mexico.
@@oxox491 lol I really was expecting someone to say something like that but non ironically, like "omg that could be Mexico you can't know for sure you don't have proof"
Yeah buddy Tijuana is like 30 minutes away from Canada, and like 15 minutes away from Russia too 😂
TheDonCucaracho exactly bro, maps be lying 🤥. Like google maps says Mexico’s a couple thousand km’s away from Canada but then how do you explain the fact that every time I start speeding I’m suddenly in Mexico ??!
Awesome video man, really interesting to hear your input on the car from a builder and owner's perspective. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for the awesome video, it's refreshing to know that you can still get a car that you can drive by yourself, all new cars give me the impression that at the track you'll never know if you're driving or the electronic gimmicks.
Yeah, I can see the car showing how competent the driver is. My daily now is a retired DUI enforcement Victoria and my first project plan is to slap a ford 150 lightning transmission in it. I'm working on the exterior now though it is pretty rough. Gets me hype to see you did it.
A nice clear explanation of the SLC , straight to the point on what works best and what to expect ;-)
It’s just man & machine. Great video! Congratulations on the build.
V-nice build. I really like the sound of the car. You are right about the cars of today so many electronics is actually holding some of these new drivers back from really knowing how to operate a vehicle properly. Really nice work, keep on keepin on:)
That thing really makes you "drive" the car!! I mean, you're working and enjoying versus sitting on a living room couch of a car, bored like everyone else is. Great video.
Zero to jail in no time! Lol I talked to you a while back, still come and dream about owning one like it. You did a phenomenal job bro
Loving this series
Very awesome run down on the SLC. I've been looking at doing a destroked ls7 with a graziano setup.
Dude ... I am SO jealous. Great Build. Sta safe and have fun ! Enjoy !!!
Nice video! Impressive at the end, backing up with the mirrors. I always had to open the door and stick my head out.
Not sure what you do for a living but you just covered that car way better than most that call that thier career. Those are a nice package for someone wanting to be hands.
This is a real review. Confirms this for my dream car
Hi cam awesome job on the car looks and sounds awesome. Your very informative about your car. I'm over in the UK and a friend of mine has a very similar car but his engine is from Audi s4. Looking forward to seeing more videos.
Beautiful car. Keep the videos coming. I'm trying to decide on a kit car for myself.
@rpracingproducts - best of luck, it's definitely an experience!
Thats a sweet looking car with some serious power too. Like it very much!
That car at 8:06 went flying by!
Nice car! Love it!
In Mexico
Haha I get that!
Love those references/easter eggs!!! Also good luck with the car!
I think Thailand is one of the greatest Countries in the world of Hot Rodding, absolutely anything and everything including plows and tractors are raced, and the fastest 150 cc motorcyles/ Motorbikes in the world, these guys run 9's on a pretty crappy semi prepped track, far from ideal. The number of 4 cylinder diesel powered everything, put out over 1,000 hp on budget builds, much much more on high dollar builds.
That and Thai ladies who flock to Races are some of the most attractive ladies in the world.
I wouldnt have read this article if i didn't see Thai in your handle, i then knew, this guy knows his shit.
Thx for the video!
The slc is amazing I can’t imagine driving it on the road
LOVE the Car!
Please keep the video's comming.
Super chill dude with a super chill name driving a super… Well you get the point!
Would like to see one with a 26b. Love your set also.
4rotororgtfo.
That's actually my dream, having one of these with a big wing and a N/A 4 rotor, just like the 787B, i'm only 15 years old and I now it's expensive as hell.
Doug Demuro wants to review your car
good stuff man, keep making these, like atleast ones a week
Great video man. Always wondered how they drove. Thanks
Excellent review
Awesome video. Wish I could have rode along!
Great info Cam!
Hanging out in Mexico is always fun. :D
first found your blog, then your YT, awesome vid, im now subscribed and will work my way though them ;)
Good video. If it ever gets too loud inside, you could always stuff 3M Thinsulate or SAE F13 grade wool all around the interior panels and dash to absorb some sound without adding much weight.
@GTR Genius - I've got over 160 lbs of sound and heat isolation in the car already! There's a bit more room and I may try a few more things out but you can only do so much when the engine is ~1ft behind your head and the total exhaust length is ~3 feet. I've found noise canceling headphones to work really well for long drives. When it's time to wick things up the headphones come off and the extra noise is pretty intoxicating. :)
Awesome man
Thats one sick ride cam.
Looks better than a saleen
S7. Beautiful shape, sounds
Cool. Nice job 👌👊
@Zoid71 Pickle2007 - thanks for the kind feedback, glad you enjoyed the video! Check out the others if you haven’t already!
Amazing car i like it
Damn I love this car
I like this..'simplicity' 😎
I've never heard of this company before, but, I like their offerings. I was more familiar with the Factory Five roadsters. I like your review as well, specially the part on whether the car will kill you! and I agree with you, if you want to be foolish, anything will kill you!
Great job . Thanks
Love the green
I would love to check this car out some time in person here in SD, it’s crazy to think cars like these are local to you but you never see them out and about
@Nathan Solano - I'm trying to make the Mira Mesa cars & coffee a regular thing, swing by and check out the car!
This video should hit 1 million viewa...........
That R8 gate makes shifting look so effortless, I'm hopeful the RCR gate is the same
@Infinite Reality - I'm looking forward to hearing impressions once builders get those installed! My only gripe about the RCR version is I think it's a 2-handed maneuver to get into reverse. One hand on the stick, another to release the lockout. The R8 unit is nice because it's one-handed and you can keep your other hand on the wheel. Feels much more natural.
@@CamThai I'm pretty curious about the reverse lockout as well. Definitely won't be as easy as the R8, buthopefully it'll become somewhat more natural as I get accustomed to it. I don't think I've read any feedback on them yet, I'll have to ask Allan what he thinks next time I talk to him.
You should hit up Matt at TST, he would definitely have some fun with it. He'd also be able to put it through the paces and give it a real shakedown.
@cam Thai how much u spent to build it
THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
Very nice! Let me know if you’re coming to the Malibu area
Doesn't get much cooler than this thing. Holy cow
I was wondering why it was so high on revs then u explained the gearing. That would drive me nuts. Like a good 1600-1800 at cruise speed. But this is good to know
I love the build. I think it's time to sign up for the Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge.
Oh, and don't ever talk about how it's chilly in San Diego. Lame, lol.
@John Cochran - living in SoCal things your blood out ... I grew up in Central Canada and this San Diego winter is kicking my butt ;) I know, lame ...
Please please call Matt Farrah of one takes and tell him to give this a spin through Angeles forest!
Yes!!! Excellent idea
How hard was it to register? what about speed bumps and potholes?
Pretty easy to register, check out my blog at socalslc dot com for the section on SB100. Speed bumps and pot holes aren’t an issue, I have a hydraulic lift for the front end.
Awesome!
I’m in San Diego as well and wanting to do a build or buy one done. Any way to meet up and view your build?
How much does it cost a finish slc
I would love to build one of these with at Lexus 2URGSE(RCF motor) and a Sequential six speed with paddle shift and blipper!
You should try to film some reactions at the next cars and coffe
Awesome
Moreeeeeeeeeeeeeeee moreeeeeeee that was awesome you gotta get a head camera for point of view I would like to see the angles your talking about you can't see
In my opinion it does not look like a kit car lol, it looks like a Ferrari from the front
Daily Dose Of Cars I thought it looked like a mclaren f1 from the front
I thought it looked like a saleen s7 twinturbo
@@jamesmatthew899 I thought it looked like a kit car from all angles.
@@ltsgarage7780 me too
Thank you very much for this great video. You did a great job at shearing your driving impression on the street. I am considering building one, and I would like to know if it can be fitted with an electrical power steering. By the way, reversing on the lift seems a bit risky, have you considered installing a camera underneath the car? (Just an idea, I don't know if it might help). Again thanks for the videos, and keep them coming. Cheers
@Karim Edde - anything is possible, the factory offers power steering as an option but I believe it's geared toward race cars. There are also conversions you can do using junkyard parts, so relatively inexpensive. Truthfully, it's not really needed. Parking lot speeds are fine once you get the car rolling a few mph, otherwise steering weight is really good at all other times, especially at speed. It's not obvious but if you take a look at my "It's weird" video, you'll see I have a near-field rear camera. When I'm reversing onto the lift I'm using 2 different cameras mounted in the rear. The near-field is located right by my license plate, so pretty low. Thanks for the feedback and feel free to hit me up if you decide to go down the rabbit hole!
Beautiful car go ahead.....
spring valley represent
I live in San Diego hopefully i get to see the car in person on a Sunday cars and coffee, i drive an Alpina white f10 m5 comp package. Hope to see you there!
I generally try to make the La Mesa C&C each month
Just wondering regarding your comment about it being superior to all other kit cars currently available. Did you consider the Ultima RS at all and what’s your thoughts on that vrs this.
I had considered the Ultima but I am not a fan of the tube frame chassis or tube suspension arms for a street car. I think that’s fine if you’re building a track car. If I was building a track-only car I think the Ultima wins. For a dual purpose or street focused car the SLC wins for me.
This car seems to drive like my C-6 but not the car I would want for a 7 000 mile summer trip. Well done video. Have fun with the beast and be careful. These are not mutually exclusive.
Thanks for sharing.
I wonder what it would be like to put a 572 big block in there... probably would be a ton of fun. Lightweight+torque monster sounds like fun.
A handful!
Awesome car/build. I’d put a small light turbo 4 cylinder in it. You’d still have the same power with even less weight and the amazing sound of a turbo.
@Jason Kellogg - there’s some irony in that my license plate has “TRBO” in it 🤣 but I wanted to go as basic as possible to avoid a complicated powertrain. There are already so many other things on this project that could have gone wrong, adding the complexity of water, oil, and intercooler circuits just didn’t sound appealing to me - not to mention the electronics to support a custom turbo setup. I wanted to build a near bullet proof car so I could DRIVE it rather than wrench on it. 🤷🏻♂️
Cam Thai it’s a super car they aren’t supposed to be reliable haha. When you have a car like that you can anything you want on your plates.
Imagine a VR38 from the R35 GTR in one of these 😳
SLC GT-R is a sick name as well
Very interesting car! Next time I’m in San Diego I’d love to come do a video on it.
@RevMatchTV - let me know! You might note the seats in my car look suspiciously like the Devel 16 ... ;)
@@CamThai I'll wear my blue track suit for the occasion!
When i order a kit from SLC.. does it come with the transaxle or is that an additional cost? Thanks.
@Manny fresh - it's an additional cost.
You should boost that beast wether it be supercharger or turbocharger, although I think a turbo set up would be better. What's even crazier is that I have never heard of these slc cars ever until Tavarish unveiled his. He bought one the other day and this popped up in my recommendations...his came with a turbocharged 3 rotor Mazda engine but I would def do a v8 like you did but I would go boost
@apocalypse_nowandthen - funny thing, I used to design turbos and all my other cars are turbo or supercharged. But I wanted as much reliability as I could get and power wasn’t as high on the priority list so I opted to leave the engine bone stock except for slight tuning.
So why did you choose the SLC over say an Ultima Evolution, or a GTM? What do you think SLC does better than those options, and what do you think they do better than the SLC at?
@Leroy Deuster - it's a pretty big question with a long answer. Without going into too many details, I felt Superlite was ahead as far as technology and fit/finish/ease of assembly/completion. At the end of the day, all 3 are fairly similar as far as completion price, given comparable specs. I also believe the SLC is the coolest looking of the 3 - something difficult to quantify.
Also the GTM uses steel instead of aluminum, the GTM uses 20yr old suspension and brakes and I've read body fitment is horrible as well for the GTM. Agree with Cam, SLC is the coolest looking
Struggling between this and the Ultima evo.
Where in S.D.?
I heard the v10 Graziano had taller gearing than the V8 variant, is there a reason you decided to go with the V8 instead of the V10 Graziano?
@Robert Norris - this is true for the first 5(?) gears, but 6th remains unchanged. The difference is too small to justify the cost difference. I think at the time I was looking, it was a +$3k difference for the V10 variant. At that point it's about the same to go with a set of drop gears that can affect all gears, and much more significantly (which is what you really need).
@@CamThai - thanks for the information, I really love your build, nice work! I especially like all of the extra details you added to make the car more steetable.
@Robert Norris - thanks, appreciate the kind feedback!
Reminds me a lot of an Ultima GTR from the rear. Do they share anything or is it just coincidence?
@Izzie - two totally separate companies and designs, but they're both reminiscent of the same era of racing cars.
Very inspirational! Just discovered this car today thanks to YT shorts. The R35 used to be my dream car. Now I want a Subaru BRZ (affordable) and planned on building it up overtime. Now this Superlite on the other hand, oh boy. Seeing this car makes me wanna get my shit tight so I can afford to have a garage built so that I have a safe space to build this beauty! Godzilla can take a seat 😅 I have a new favorite and I don’t even know if I can fit in it yet.
So it doesn’t have power steering? What is you went electronically assisted steering
@Robert Beene - anything is possible!
Wow nice
Will an R35 GTR engine and transaxel fit in this car??? Just being curius...
@constantine stranger - I have no idea, best to contact Superlite directly for that info. I know they've modified the frame to accommodate other powertrain packages.
Man that car is bad ass I wish he would have got in it a little bit more on the freeway runs.
That's one giant wing for a spoiler, do they have different ones to choose from that maby would achieve downforce without it being so large.
@James Robert - they have a "street tail" option which doesn't have a large wing.
Where did you get the transmission from?
@Rina Mukherjee - you can source these from HCF Parts, they get them direct from Italy.
I had a Mustang with a Griggs Racing track day suspension and while it only had heim ends in the rear suspension pieces, it was horribly noisy with clunking sounds etc. The SLC has them at every suspension point front and rear, what might that be like? Neat build. Thanks.
Sound isn’t bad but it will make noise when they start to wear. I always wanted to do a griggs setup for my SN95 but didn’t have the coin back then. So far so good on the SLC but I expect I’ll need to cycle these out eventually.
@@CamThai Hi Cam, I would have really loved to have built a SLC in my younger days, but I'm 75 now and my car building days are pretty much over. Enjoy your lovely car as time just rockets by all too quickly. Take care man!
BTW, here are some photos of the Griggs suspension on my Mustang. SN95 and a Griggs would have been great fun. pbase.com/iolair/gt_500&page=all
@@Cleatus46 beautiful car, beautiful setup - color me jealous!
Awesome car I would love to build one myself, what's the cost for the kit minus drive train
The standard kit without Powertrain is currently $51k.
How long was you build?
It took me about a year, 2400hrs
Wait u live in San Diego...I've never seen this car out before.
@DarkSagan - weird, thought I responded to you - yep, I've been to the Mira Mesa cars & coffee the last few times. Good chance you'll find me out there if you come out!
I’d love to get one if these and put an LS9 with the Ricardo Ford GT Transaxle 💪 I’ve already done the math on a build with an LS9 and Ricardo Ford GT Transaxle. It would be right around 130k to 140k which is a lot for a build. I’m just not sure if I’m ready to drop that kind of coin on a build right now.
@Rez look into doing a Graziano with drop gears and upgrades clutch system. Check in with HCF Autosport for pricing, you’ll find the Graziano option is cheaper, just as reliable, and readily available. If you need replacement parts for the Ricardo ... good luck! HCF also services Ricardos and can give you pros/cons of each but I would stay away from Ricardo just for the cost/availability factor alone.
What's the interior sound level like? It sounded pretty loud during your video. I really like these cars and I'm curious how noisy they are on the inside. It seemed like you had to talk loud during your video.
Not gonna lie - it’s loud. Certainly louder than any oem car you’ve been in. I have about 300 lbs of sound and heat isolation materials in the car and it’s still loud. This car has zero rubber bushings and wasn’t designed with noise control in mind. Seals are whatever you can come up with and aero choices were purely driven by performance. I could have knocked a few dB by going with a bigger muffler but I didn’t want to do that.
If I’m on the highway I’ve usually got my noise canceling headphones on which makes it as quiet as oem. I highly recommend anyone driving one of these to try it out. In the canyons or when you’re having fun? Headphones off, it’s better that way!
@@CamThai Well to be fair it is practically a race car that's legal to drive. May I ask what you used for sound proofing? I've seen some materials they use in helicopters for sound. I wish I had one of these cars. One of these days. Thanks for the response.
I used a lot of second skin products. I have a full breakdown of everything on my blog: socalslc.com/table-of-contents/
Scroll down to sound and heat blockers.
Basically a race car with turn signals. Such an Awesome car Cam. - Rob (Alfa 4C)
@Rob T - hit me up some time so we can do some driving!
@@CamThai Waiting for some suitable weather. I would have went to the cars n coffee last weekend but it was Mary's Bday and she wanted to do other things.
Cam has done much in his life to have this chance, todrive this car.
How is it with pot holes? Do you have a hard time going over speed bumps or entering businesses or gas stations? Do you ever bottom out? By the way wonderful buiod you have.
The front lift is pretty critical for a street build. It gets me over just about every driveway I’ve encountered. Potholes I try to avoid as much as possible. If you hit them at speed it sounds like the car has exploded but I haven’t found any damage apart from scrapes to the underside. If I have enough time to react I will engage the front lift and that takes the bite out of anything I can’t avoid (like a big road seam). I bottom out occasionally but it’s pretty rare. Thanks, appreciate the kind words!
@CamThai I'm really close to getting one built. I have so many questions. Crazy question but do you see this being a daily driver as long as it's a low HP build? Thanks in advance
Depends on your tolerance for attention and inconvenience. It’s far easier to jump into your car and go to the grocery store than to do it in an SLC. The attention is crazy and there’s not a whole lot of storage. Going to work, hanging with friends? Sure. I think ~500hp is just right. So long as you don’t get stupid there’s no reason to go lower given the availability and cost for this motor.
Hey what’s the rear view mirror you use?
@xombi - it's an Autovox X2
Does it require a lift to build the car?
@Bryan Emerson - I know a few builders who didn’t use one. I highly recommend the Quickjack, one of the best investments for my build.
