    Thanks for watching! Video chapters are in the description. I've made two documents to accompany this video: a 'cheat sheet' the summarizes everything shown along with a few extras, and a 'tune list' that has 300+ tuning setups for a variety of cars.
    Cheat Sheet: docs.google.com/document/d/10mhPkPcvtET5pGUwy7YTL6pPjPqKUMwZm9MZ3CgnHKE/edit?usp=sharing
    Tune List: docs.google.com/document/d/1ClCpRVUgQrDWdh-e78sgTnxZbvdxWgrRWDcuYcg-U_8/edit?usp=sharing
    Some things I didn't mention in the video:
    - The '95 EA21R Cappuccino has slightly more torque and better acceleration than the '91 EA11R. If you can find the EA21R for 5,102 credits, go for that instead, but otherwise, the EA11R is better value.
    - The races at Tsukuba can be extremely difficult if there's a Cappuccino EA21R in pole, as it can build a huge lead. Exit and re-enter until it's further down the line-up, or buy a racing flywheel to make the race easier.
    - When buying a used Impreza, try to go for the Ver. V, Ver. VI, or the bug-eyes. The older Impreza's have much worse grip modifiers, on top of having less power. The Spec C from the Subaru dealership has the most grip by far of any Impreza, so it's worth saving up for.
    - There can be situations where you don't want to max out the downforce with the rear wing. For many MR's, especially lightweight ones, setting the front downforce to 30 can make the car feel very unbalanced when braking into corners at high speeds. If the car loses grip too easily and collapses while entering corners, try lowering it. Some rear-heavy cars like the Alpine A310 work best with 0 / 30 downforce. El Capitan is a good choice for testing downforce settings due to its many elevation changes. Meanwhile, many FF's and 4WD's will understeer less with reduced rear downforce.
    - My explanation of camber was very over-simplified. Front camber, on top of increasing front wheel grip, also increases the car's corner entry and braking stability. This is great for cars that feel unbalanced while entering corners. It creates understeer if set too high, however. Rear camber increases grip mid-corner, preventing loss of speed from skids. It can reduce corner exit traction in RWD's if set too high though. Generally, most cars work well between a range of 1.4 to 2.0.
    - On NTSC-U, when doing the B-spec training route shown in this guide, you need to buy the stage 4 turbo instead of the stage 3 for the 350Z Concept LM. The Fairlady Z LM in PAL and NTSC-J gets much more power from its turbo upgrades than NTSC-U's 350Z counterpart, and the stage 3 isn't enough to bump it from D1 to D2.
    - There are a lot of hidden variables contained in the car's chassis, downforce and tyre data that heavily affect how the car handles. For example, each car has grip modifiers for front and rear, and cars with wider tyres will also grip more and wear less. All cars also have a wind drag stat, and some can cut through air better than others (the GT-One Race Car is the second-most aerodynamic car in the game, while the Formula Gran Turismo and Esucdo are both tied for the least). If you're interested in learning more, I put together a spreadsheet by querying SpecDB, a car info database extracted from the game and included with Nenkai's GT4SaveEditor: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DtAPfe5YhuQ4p1mdoPcVAMF5NzzpZ7Jb0Q0gUpl1sEQ/edit?usp=sharing
    - I've also made a follow-up video that primarily focuses on tuning and how to reduce understeer. It goes into much more depth than this video's tuning section and explains many things that I didn't elaborate on here. Check it out here: czcams.com/video/zydfobtVlWw/video.html
    - A lot of the setups I showed in this video were somewhat sub-optimal. The Corvette Z06 tune has way too much rear camber, and while it grips well mid-corner, it has less traction out of corners than it could have. I also realized that it's possible to tune LMP's with soft springs to make them easier to drive on Opera Paris. The cheat sheet has updated tips and tunes for most of the cars shown in this video.
    - I also added a tune for the Formula Gran Turismo to the cheat sheet, it's in the Other Tunes section. Like with my LMP tunes, it runs the softest springs and highest heights possible for the smoothest ride on bumpy tracks, with a lowered front downforce for better stability. Removing the toe-out and lengthening the gears with the gear trick will greatly reduce rear tyre wear. Also, it can't get rigidity or engine wear.
    - Hard sports tyres are almost never worth it, even in endurances. The grip decrease is so large and the durability increase is so small, that they end up wearing just as fast as mediums because the car skids and loses traction much more often. I suggest using mediums instead, particularly for the El Capitan 200 Miles endurance.
    - I added some 'endurance tunes' to the cheat sheet. These are basically optimised builds for B-spec'ing endurances. The Suzuki GSX-R/4 is one of the best cars to use in endurances, as it's extremely lightweight and has very high grip. The Motul Pitwork Z excels in most other endurances thanks to its 50 / 70 downforce, 51 : 49 weight distribution, wide tyres and high grip, while the Minolta 88C-V is ideal for Sarthe, Fuji and Super Speedway.
    - The Audi R8 has better grip and cornering ability than the Pescarolo's, and generally feels nicer to drive. However, the Pesca '04 wears its rear tyres less quickly, which makes it well-suited for the Sarthe endurances.
    - Qualifying (or "practice" as it's called in-game) will make many championships much easier, particularly the Hong Kong and Opera Paris races in GTWC. You can also exit before starting a championship race to either go to GT Auto for an oil change, or to the garage to save your game.
    - On some versions, the game's completion percentage can get messed up if you do the missions in a random order. It's believed that, in early versions of NTSC-U, Mission 1 always needs to be completed first to avoid this issue. Make sure to start with Mission 1 to be on the safe side.
    - GT4 Online (a rare version of GT4 that includes online play, and the preferred version in the modding scene) has unusual AI behaviour in many events, especially Mission 23. The AI cars are extremely random and will slow down or crash into walls unpredictably. There isn't much advice I can give for completing this mission, other than to persevere and get the lucky run where the AI co-operates.

      @CaptJackAubreyOfTheRoyalNavy Před rokem +1

      Hi, quick question. When the guide says for Dampers: "Stiff front for corner entry understeer / corner exit oversteer." Does this mean to prevent these things or to cause these things?

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  Před rokem +2

      @@CaptJackAubreyOfTheRoyalNavy it's to cause them. Setting the front and rear dampers to, say, 6 / 2, sets the bounds to 6 / 2 and rebounds to 6 / 2. When entering corners, the front bound and rear rebound come into play, and since the front bound (6) is stiffer than the rear rebound (2), the car will be more likely to understeer. Hope that makes sense.
      Edit: I see my wording in the cheat sheet wasn't very clear, I just changed it there. Thanks for raising it.

    For mission 34, I tend not to do the in race cheesing like cutting grass and wall riding. If you're playing on an emulator and you're desperate for the win just save state after every successful section. Basicslly turns the whole thing into a giant series of license tests. Not as satisfying and you're still cheating but at least you technically did the entire thing without looking "dirty" (not that it matters)

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  Před rokem +9

      Yeah, that's fair. Save stating after completing a section decently well was how I practiced for the guide so I could record footage and explain how to tackle each section. I figured I'd show the cheese strats anyway and let the viewer decide if they want to drive clean or not. On PAL the mission is definitely very winnable with a somewhat clean run with no cheesing, but for NTSC-U it's a much bigger commitment.

      @@TeaKanji I especially love that a game made 18 years ago is still so relevant, fun and interesting to explore, it really shows how well made it is, they really made a great piece of work that people will love for a really long time. I was genuinely amazed by how long and deep is the endgame, I actually never knew there was F1 races in the game at all! Last time I felt hyped like this about discovering stuff about a game was when I was a child.

    There's a new thing I discovered about Lineup Re-Rolling in GT4 (and GT3 and 5 as well). The lineup isn't entirely random. If you boot up your PS2/Emulator, and go to an event like, say GTWC, as the very first thing, it will be the exact same lineup every time. And the same goes for every following re-roll. If however, the first event you choose is different, and then go to GTWC, it will either be a brand new lineup or the same as before just with the initial one skipped. Sorry if the wording is confusing, there are a whole lot of intricacies with this mechanic and even with my testing I'm still not fully aware of how it all works,. However, there's one important trick you can do with this knowledge can massively reduce the number of times re-rolling to get an easier lineup. This works on NTSC-U. I don't know if it'll work on PAL/NTSC-J because all versions have different car lineups. Regardless, It goes like this:
    -Buy a car you want that's competitive, make sure to equip sports tires and all other upgrades. Let's use the Viper GTS-R as an example (could you imagine how I got this idea?)
    -Tune the car to your liking and then save the game. Reset the console.
    -Go to El Capitan 200 Miles, and exit.
    -Go to GTWC and enter and exit 2 times.
    Once you enter it for a 3rd time, you'll find a lineup that consists of the Gillet, R390 GT1,Toyota 7, Camaro LM and CLK GTR. This is very doable for the Viper and more.
    If you don't have Endurance races unlocked by this point, you can instead go to Sunday Cup first and you just have to re roll 2 more times.

      oil change
      rear wing
      S muffler
      brake balance controller
      computer
      custom transmission
      triple clutch

      dampers: [R]: 5 / 5
      camber: 1.8 / 1.2
      toe: 0 / 0
      stabilisers: 5 / 5
      gears: final gear to 5.500, then auto setup to 1, then final gear to 2.500, then set individual gears to 2.115, 1.705, 1.350, 1.101, 0.897, 0.763
      downforce: 30 / 30
      LSD [I, A, D]: 60, 60, 10
      ballast: 150kg at 50 balance
      ASM [O + U]: 0
      TCS: 0
      With the close gear setup, you'll want to gear up at around 5750 RPM, as the supercharger mainly boosts mid-RPM torque.

      Thank you, happy to help! Hehe, I had a go at it, that was a challenge indeed. The extreme body roll, low rear wheel traction and loss of balance in corners was tough to deal with. I eventually managed to get it somewhat stable though.
      This is with NA tuning stage 1 (no oil change), racing suspension, racing flywheel, custom transmission, custom LSD, weight reduction stage 1 and soft sports tyres (front only):
      tyres: soft / medium (S3 / S2)
      springs: 16.5 / 12.5
      ride height: 90 / 150
      damper B: 6 / 6
      damper R: 3 / 3
      camber: 3.6 / 1.4
      toe: 0 / 0
      stabilisers: 6 / 6
      gears: final gear to 5.500, then Auto to 1, then final gear to 2.500, then set individual gears to 2.484, 1.958, 1.515, 1.205, 0.966
      LSD I: 60
      LSD A: 60
      LSD D: 60
      ballast: 200kg at 50 balance
      ASM [O + U]: 0
      TCS: 0
      This car is like a Jenga tower ready to fall apart, but is still barely standing. Rear ballast fixes rear-wheel traction, but then that unbalances the car, so need to set a rear ride height bias, stiffen the springs and crank the LSD all the way to make it easier to control. Had to go GT1-style with extreme front camber to numb the car's handling and induce understeer. Increase it to make the car a bit easier to control entering corners. Mediums on rear are needed for longer races like Supercar Festival, which I was able to win on Infineon with this setup. For shorter races, put softs on the rear instead.
      Hope that helps!

Especially around lower-speed corners, the initial understeer the car suffered from is gone. And not to mention the gears, the car's top speed has increased dramatically.
      Just a few tweaks I made to really milk the potential of the car:
      > If you have a brake controller, you can afford to jack up the brake balance for both ends to 12 without the tires "squibbing" (i.e ABS doesn't trigger).
      > Might just be because I'm a noob (just started playing a few days ago), but setting the TCS to 1 does resolve most of the "squirreliness" (lack of stability at high speeds) the car have. Worked when the car was stock, and it works with your current setup.

    I do want to point out something that might effect others as well that I don't think your guide covers. With the B-spec griding, NTSC-J and PAL versions have the fairlady z concept lm car while NTSC-U has the 350 z concept car. Turns out these cars actually have different stats despite being the same car, so if you are on NTSC-U and follow the guide your car cannot actually get subclass d2 points. Luckily you can equip a stage 4 turbo instead of a stage 3 and it looks like that solves the issue. Otherwise I'm sure there are other cars you can use for d2 points but I thought I should say something in case anyone was playing on ntsc-u and coming up with that problem. Otherwise incredible guide!

If it's just a small difference, maybe an oil change would be enough to bump it up from D1 to D2, but I'd need to test that and make sure. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, I'll put it in the pinned comment once I get to the bottom of it.

      @@TeaKanji Yeah no problem, I decided to try and max out b spec until I ran into that problem. Checked the gran turismo wiki and yeah the ntcs-u version has 110 less horsepower than the pal and ntcs-j versions, funny how that is lol. As far as I can tell stock and stage 3 leaves it in the d1 range while a stage 4 turbo bumps it up to d2 range with everything else the same. I've heard the clk touring car can work for d1-d2 with a 3rd and 4th turbo respectively and as well as being a relatively simple car to obtain as a alternative? Regardless figured I should share, otherwise awesome job on this video and rest of your gran turismo 1-3 guides as well 👍

      @@Sonikman103 Yep, tested it on NTSC-U and I see now, weird how the 350Z LM gets much less power from turbo upgrades than the Fairlady Z LM. My bad for missing that, I didn't realize there was a region difference. I added it to the pinned comment and edited the route in the cheat sheet, thanks again and glad you enjoyed the other guides too!

    Great job, I hadn't thought about this game in ages since I hadn't played it since I was a kid, but got thinking about giving it another go with an emulator and stumbled onto this. Awesome work, I never would have realized the depth of this game otherwise

    one good tip, if you are emulating is to bind one trigger to left analog up or down for throttle or break, and bind the other trigger for the opposite on the other stick, this way you get good throttle control with your triggers, and since each trigger is bound to a different stick, you can separate throttle and break which really helps with rally and throttle blipping on a controller.

    • @LowEndPCGamer100
      @LowEndPCGamer100 Před rokem

      then just use left analog up and down for throttle and break, it will bind both the left and right sticks so you can just use a separate controller profile for gran turismo

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  Před rokem

      Your explanation doesn't make sense. Am I right in saying you map acceleration to left analog stick up, brake to left analog stick down, then in PCSX2 you map the left analog stick to L2 and R2? Right analog stick up and down are already mapped to acceleration and brake in-game, can't you just map L2 and R2 to those and use the left analog stick for turning? What's wrong with using L2 and R2 normally and using Silent's adjusted sensitivity codes like I explain at 3:49?

    • @LowEndPCGamer100
      @LowEndPCGamer100 Před rokem

      no, map your right trigger to right analog up for throttle, and left trigger, to left analog down for brake, this way, you can use throttle and break at the same time, rather than having them bound to just a single analog stick and having to switch between throttle and break constantly, also, dont use silents trigger patch, its no good, barely changes anything sensitivity wise for L2 and R2 and it corrupted a 5 year old save of mine last week, hence why im doing the old gran turismo 2 throttle trick, but with gran turismo 4, add me on discord and ill send a screenshot of my config, in emu and in game if that will help you understand a little better, as it kind of is hard to explain without showing, i may even make a youtube video showing how to do it.

      @@TeaKanji and thanks to the QT build of PCSX2, you can just make a profile for gran turismo and load it every time you want to do some racing, this config should work for enthusia and extreme racer drift as well

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  Před rokem +1

      Okay, I understand now, I got it to work. This was the process:
      1: in-game, map acceleration to R2 and brake to left analog stick down (I tried setting acceleration to NONE but that made the accelerator stutter, so I had to map it to something for it to work).
      2: in PCSX2 QT nightly, open the controller settings, click New Profile in the bottom-left, name it something, then say yes to copy all settings from the current profile.
      3: unset L2 and R2 so nothing is mapped to them, then set left trigger to left analog stick down and right trigger to right analog stick up.
      4: right click on GT4 in the games list, click Properties, then set the Input Profile to the new profile you made.
      Doing this seems to let you go below half-throttle much more easily than with default settings, or with Silent's patch. I don't know though, this is still a pretty complicated work-around, I've rarely needed to go below half-throttle on most cars while driving with analog controls. I also asked in Silent's support channel how the patch may have corrupted your save file and they had no idea, it was very likely something else like PCSX2 rounding. First time any of us have heard of it causing any issues.
      I'll leave this explanation here though if anyone wants to try it for themselves and see if they prefer it to regular L2/R2 controls.

    I personally do all the license tests from B to IA first, use the Nismo that you get as a reward for the IA license to get the Toyota RSC rally car that you can sell for 250k, then buy the car of my choice.

    • @TeaKanji
      @TeaKanji  Před rokem

      I mean, it's your choice, but spending 2 - 3 hours doing all the licences at the start is a bit unnecessary IMO. If you want to get to Capri Rally Easy as quickly as possible, you can just get the B and A licences, buy the Lancer Evo I and an oil change, use it to win the RSC, then buy whatever you want to buy. You can enter 80% of the Beginner and Professional events with just those two licences, so there's no rush to get I-B and I-A.
