Roadside Firewood Stand - Bundles or Loose Stack?

- How many bundles are in a loose stack at the roadside firewood stand? I finally figured out something that I can't believe took me this long to do...and it might also help a customer decide what they want to buy. Bundles or a loose stack of firewood.

Glad you found a better solution for something to put in your backside since it wasn't getting much action
Dan, I think that I speak for many of us when I say that we are happy to hear that your backside doesn't get a lot of action!! 😆
Hahahahahaha...yeah I realized when I heard that editing I was gonna have some comments on that comment....LOL
He said he fills it up with loose wood... I had the video playing in the background and was looking at another page when he said that. I chuckled.
I like the idea of both. For the weekends a couple of bundles may work. Not everyone has room for a big stack. Have a Safe Day
You are doing your community a good service giving them readily available firewood at a very fair price. Great job, Dan.
compared to some other firewood sellers I saw on YT , your prices seem very reasonable
Nice stand and comparison on loose & bundle. Great job Dan. I like those bags they are clean to put in a vehicle
Nice Dan I’ll keep that in mind when I get mine going. 😎
We put 3 loose stacks in the front of our stand and the 4th bin we use for bundles for that very reason. So the customers can see the difference. We modeled our stand after yours of course but have 4 slots front and 4 slots back. 👍🏻👍🏻🍻B🆒
I’m sorry Dan but after I heard you say your backside doesn’t get much action at 6:05 I didn’t really hear anything else you said. Lol!
Hahahahaha...was wondering if anyone would catch that! I heard it when I was editing and was like...ohhh my, this should bring a few comments! LOL
Great idea!
Man that is a good value.
Great video
Nice video Dan. I sized my stand to have bins a little over 5 cubic ft for $20. I sell one cubic ft bundles for $5 each. Thanks for the video, I’ve been thinking of doing this with one bin. Have a good one and be cool!
Love the idea might make one where I live
You have me wondering if I should try getting into the firewood business. You make it look so cool!
Bundles are convenient if your buddy needs one or your just having small get together here and there , garage stackup is nice when bagged keep it nice and dry just a thought
If you turn the stand the customer can see both sides and you could put the bundles on the long end. But that is alot of work . The way you are doing it works just fine.
NICE WAY TO REPURPOSE THOSE EMPTY SPOTS ON THE BACK SIDE SHIF( D )... I-LIKE-IT! ALWAYS THINKIN' THAT'S WHY I LIKE YOU... I THINK ADRIAN W. GOT A GOOD QQQ... TAKE CARE, STAY COOL, AND KEEP PUSHIN' ON BROTHER... PEACE...
I'm just kickin myself for not thinking of that sooner...hahahaha....but that's just the way things go sometimes.
Wow Dan you could be a brain surgeon!
That’s great! I need a favor! Can you please tell people to stop selling face cords so cheap around me here in w ny. Omg 65 bucks is too cheap. Enough with the 2020 prices 🤬lol
Hahahaha....I have the same problem here....I've even seen $55 a face advertised. Yeah...crazy!
Some people buy the cheep face cords and resell them as bundles. Along as it's seasoned those guys did all the hard work for you.
@@richarddavidson447 I wish I could take advantage of that situation but by the time I handle it resplit it to bundle size and then bundle it the margin is all gone. But it’s definitely in a possibility especially if it’s different type of wood to mix in my bundles.
I pay 150 for a cord delivered
I’ve never seen a sleeveless polo before 😅
I have a few different ones....hahaha....custom cut....lol
Idea stack your bundles up front put another sign on the back and stack it full of loose wood that would give you 6 loose bins and pile high 8. Or 10 bundles up front more wood less filling👍utilize you space
My bundles are 64 cubic feet and most only get 2 from me at a time.. 🤣👍
Hahahahaha....that's a nice size bundle! No saggy bags on those....LOL
Dam, that’s some good prices. Stores by us the bundles are less than half the size of yours for $7-$8 bucks.
what kind of paint/stain did you use to finish the roadside stand?
Do you have a video of how you made the road side stand
How many sticks do you get in a bundle? As always good video and good tips.
Hey shifty if you were to turn your firewood stand 90° so that people driving in each direction would see that you had stacks on each side and something else you may want to consider is put a divider halfway down in your $20 stack and give the people the option of having a $10 stack or two of them
But then I sort of have the same problem...if one side is empty people coming from that direction would only see the empty bins....hahaha...I have thought about doing that though.
@@Back40Firewood , everyone has a rear view mirror on their vehicle nowadays shifty.
You could turn the stand 90 degrees and that way people would see both sides loose stacked.
Well only if they were coming from both directions...lol...I thought about doing that, but then sort of have same issue....people driving by one way might only see the empty side.
I’d buy the bundles for the convenience of easy loading and unloading..need to raise your bundle price to at least $7.00;or 5 for $30. Everything is going up and so should your bundles!
A sign that says there is more wood on the back might help.
Regarding options,
Am curious to know what 16 pounds of kindling would look like,
What
16 pounds of mid sized splits would look like and
What 16 lbs. Of boiler wood or larger than average splits would like.
( 14 lbs. Is the retail industry maximum for impulse purchases, I am told)
Most shoppers can ,without a second thought lift 14 lbs. With one hand w/o assistance.
I figure people shopping for fire wood should expect at least 16 lb. Bundles.
And what do your bags weigh, on average?
Thanks in advance for any attention you choose to give this.
Hey Dan not so sure about this approach marketing wise, I would keep the stacks and the bundles “visually” as much separated as possible so customers can not see or compare 1/1 what buys me for 20$?
What brings you bottom line more money, 4 bundles or 1 rack with approx double the wood? What is the sales mix in your area racks vs bundles?
OWB is very instrumental in this matter as in maximizing the value of every stick of firewood.
But glad to hear you sales are flying at the moment. Take care my friend, regards from 🇧🇪
I don't think a stack is double the wood...think it's probably like 5 - 5 1/2 bundles...and the bundles have the added cost of the bag so the loose stack is best for both me & customer I think...lol
Also less overhead on your side with the cost of the bag.
Now to get people to stop taking 3 bundles when paying for 2 or a stack and a bundle paying for the stack. I'm thinking of putting up a trail camera. Really not a huge deal since I got my wood for free but I'd rather know who then not
Hi Dan, Nice roadside stand. I have a question. After nearly fifty years my woodshed is in need of repair. I have a lot of wood cut and split, but I can't rebuild the shed as planned because I tore my rotator cuff. They are telling me I'll be out of commision for six to twelve weeks. I see a lot of wood hounds just leaving their stacked out in the elements. My question is: Can I leave it outside indefinately or do I need to cover it somehow? Thanks in advance for your kind response. Shalom/gw
Sorry to hear about your shoulder...hope you have a speedy recovery. I know a lot of people will leave their stacks uncovered during the summer but then cover in Fall/Winter. Others will cover with a tarp all year long. The main thing is to only cover the top and maybe a few inches down on each side...leave the sides open and you'll be just fine.
@@Back40Firewood Thanks Dan. I really appreciate your taking time to respond. Shalom/gw
Did you say your backside doesn't get much action?
Love your content
Hahahahaha...yep, that's what I said. I didn't even realize it until I was editing the video...then I thought, ohh this will get some good comments I bet. LOL
Also, People buy bundles to keep their car clean. Loose wood, sheds wood niblets and such.
That's awesome that your wood stand is getting business!! Not sure if it's just me but everyone seems to be alot busier then other years?!?! Wow no one wants to hear about your backside hahahahaha!! Stay safe my friend 🍻👍
I think area has a lot to do with type of sales. I am in a more rural area and loose stacks are far more popular than bundles. I feel in more urban areas bundles are more popular.
Yep I agree...I'm sort of in the mix of both which is nice. I will say I was going through bundles like crazy but now since having them stacked up in the back I've just been moving the loose stacks...lol...who knows.
Hey Dan, went to check out your website to get a t-shirt or some stickers but I don't see any listed or you're completely out of stock. Any chance that might change soon?
Currently all out of stickers but t-shirts should all be available online. Thanks.
I'm surprised you ain't raised your wood prices since since gas went up.
I’ve wondered this same thing Dan, I tried counting the pieces in a loose stack vs bundle and got myself all confused, keep it simple stupid! My stand has been doing well in these first few weeks, I store my extra bundles in an IBC tote with a lid.
What are the sizes of your bundles and stacks?
bundles are a little over 1 cubic foot...loose stacks are about 5 cubic feet.
Id spin your stand 90 degrees? just a thought. I'd rather sell the bags id they can be seen?
Nobody says what the measurements on their bins of wood ?
Remember some times people do not want to put lose wood in their cars so they go with the bundles and can only fit one or two in their cars so they don’t have a Choice they have to go one way or the other cause I’m sure if they could they would go with the lose to save money
Hi Dan, would you consider extending the front row of the road stand to accommodate more loose wood?
Do you mean to the side so there was more than 3 bins? Yeah I thought about it, but the trees are in the way...hahaha...might have to cut them down here someday.
Probably answered before but how do people pay at the roadside. And how do you deal with thieves?
I have a locking mailbox on the side of the stand for a pay box. Have only twice had people take more than they pay for so haven't had much theft to deal with. I think the motion lights and being fairly close to the house helps.
Post that the sacks on the back have something special, maybe "premium" or "fresher" or "choice" or "kept under cover."
I built my own road side stand and I found out that I have a jealous neighbor
Hahahaha....uh ohh, hopefully you get along good with that neighbor.
@@Back40Firewood I try too. I just ignore the person
Dan, my man. You are looking really tired. Pump the brakes and take some vacation time or at least some off-days.
I think it's this dang heat....runs me down quick....lol...but also makes recharging with a cold one that much better...hahaha 👍🍻
Have you thought about raising prices yet? The shitty bundles at my hardware store almost doubled in price since like a year ago...
Why not turn the bundle stand so they see both sides and don’t think the loose wood is empty till both sides are? Rotate it 90 degrees.
Shifty, how about a splitting party when my splitter is ready? I'll be picking it up factory direct.
At 6:11 did you actually say your backside doesn’t get much action? Yes, I believe you did. TMI Shifty! TMI!! 😂😂😂
LOL...yep, I did. Didn't even catch it til the edit....hahaha
Some people may need less than 4 bundles.
Did you tell us how many pieces of wood for $20?
I didn't...and it all depends on the size of splits...can vary.
@@Back40Firewood I realize it varies. Since you load the stand one piece at a time, I thought maybe you counted, Seems to me you are giving a lot of wood for only $20.
Why don’t you put on your signage “ Pull and load from backside of stand FIRST”. They may not know there is a back, and if they empty out the back first, then your front still shows available firewood to cars going by your stand…..
I've given up hope on people actually reading and then following any direction...hahahaha....but that wouldn't be a bad idea.
just turn the wood stand 90 degrees and everyone will see both sides
So your backside gets no action 😉🤞🤞✌️👍👍😂
Those bundles are $9.99 at our grocery store……yyou get $7 a bundle. Inflation!
Leave one of the slots for the bundles empty like it is here in the vid. Makes people think other people are buying it. Subtle marketing!
I'm better your wife thought of that lol
Ballpark figure on how much you think you have made on the stand wood? When are u gonna hand it down to bossman to start learning about werk and making da BUCKZ?
I make the same amount as what I have on hand for wood....not enough! Hahahaha Little bossman has been getting more involved and might take things over soon. He's got the taking the money out of the pay box down pretty good....lol
if your back side don't get a lot action biden can helpu with they he can only find back door and he got the master key lol
Did I hear right, your backside doesn’t get any action? 😂 I guess I have gutter brain 🧠 today. Can you tell I teach middle school where you have to make sure everything you say cannot be misrepresented?
I still have the brain of a middle schooler Richard!🤣
Hahahaha....yep, you heard right. I didn't even catch that I said that til the edit. Figured I'd leave it in and see how many caught it as well. Good thing people don't buy from those bins or I might've said the opposite....LOL

Hahahaha....was wondering if anyone would comment on that. When I was editing and heard that I almost cut it out, but figured I'd leave it in for a little comedy styling. Hahahahahaha....
I sent ya an email about Bunyan show.
@@Back40Firewood never got it . john
@@fricknjeep sent it to your hotmail...might need to check the spam or junk mail
@@Back40Firewood hi there not even there today , i check and then empty them everyday thanks john
You r to cheap on your wood prices
It comes out to around $120 a face cord....which is almost double what the average going price is around here...lol..$70 is about average but I've seen face cords advertised for $55 which is crazy!
@@Back40Firewood wow,, is there that much firewood around your area? Most people here in Ohio don’t want to work that hard.
