It is not the responsibility of app and social media makers to keep your kids safe I'm sorry. And it's ridiculous to say so, it's your responsibility as a parent and there is ways you can monitor their internet and their phone and their apps and that is your job. I mean seriously her parents going to start going after rated X websites and expect them to keep their children off of those sites as well
All stories about losing a child is upsetting, but Joey’s father really hurts my heart. I wish this story ended differently

I think it's pretty safe to assume that if you're a walmart employee and someone comes in past midnight and they purchase bleach, rope, shovels, disposable gloves and the like, just go ahead and call the police and have that person surveilled.... seriously. At this point, seriously...🤦
And a hacksaw and muriatic acid.
@@NordicaTundra exactly....
He had a receipt, that's where their job ends. Catching a killer is way above their pay grade. 🤔🤐
I said if I was a cashier and that happened it would take a lot to keep my mouth shut.
It would definitely be sending red flags, mostly people rather not get involved for fear. ? But that would make me feel very curious & I'd probably tell someone 🤔 if I knew who would maybe listen? Without becoming suspect by association or they'd just think I'm crazy.
Here I am, watching cases I’ve seen before… but 48 Hours puts such a great spin on them, I still enjoy them 🤷🏾♀️
It's sickening😅
I’m not alone 🫶🏾😂
Me, as well. 🫣
I'm doing the same 😊
Right lol. It’s like I saw it on dateline but not 48 hrs lol
I can’t imagine losing my son. The father of Joey can’t even stop crying. I really feel for him
If you need to put a tracker on your boyfriend's phone to make sure he doesn't cheat on you AGAIN, then you shouldn't be with him!
that's sad
Exactly, where’s the shame on holding onto someone that tight? Ladies, if you have to track him and make sure he’s not cheating, then he’s cheating, and you are making a fool of yourself thinking you can control someone and make them faithful to you.
That’s the take awake from this? No, you shouldn’t need a tracker. Without that tracker - it might not have been as easy to convict him.
@@LalithoTheRedBorderCollielqs
I'm getting a tracker for my CAT, not my damn man. That's so insane.
I swear if I worked at a store and someone bought cleaning supplies, gloves, and a shovel, I would automatically assume they just killed someone (or were about to). I watch too many crime shows.
I have worked in retail. If you buy more than three bottles of bleach, you get the side eye🤣

Does not make sense a guy would give someone he hardly knew, a rifle and 400 rounds. That witness was odd too.
Yes, he was very strange.

US militaristic gun culture is suicidal.

Way to spoil the episode for people who haven’t seen it
@@BudFuddlackerhahaha you’re not wrong, but I mean, I personally know if I’m heading to the comments on a whodunit video then I’m 100% going to find out who the killer is.

Maybe he just didn't get enough hugs and kisses 😢. 😅
It's not the *macabre* that is appealing, but the human phyche, the human behaviors, forensics, and motives that intrigue me. Great upload.
Same for most interested in true crime, we want to understand why people unexpectedly do the most horrific choices, especially when there were so many better options.

@@donnahobson9263 Me too. The hardest part for me, is watching how their family and friends grieve their loved-ones' passing. There are left do *try* and cope with the pain. I cry with them, but the best part is when the "peeps get caught." Be safe out there my friend. Be aware. ♥ 🕊
@@Scottallen8909 LOL his defense atty was LAME and I don't blame her one bit WTF could she say?
Killing and then chopping up your own parents because they caught you in your lies?? That’s some next level psycho behavior. I hope the brother & his fiancé are in therapy…same with the gf, Cat. I’m sure they’re all torn up about how someone so close to them could be such a monster without them knowing it.
It truly is the ultimate betrayal. What bother's me is that these people KNOW how to behave properly... they do it all the time to lure people with their _charm._ But are absolutely duplicitous. No honor. No shame. No loyalty. No compassion. How, just HOW do they live with themselves? I can't imagine that they even know how to look themselves in the eye.
Chandler is untouched with reality period. There are no explanations for what he did. He is literally crazy. Heads up, folks, there are signs. Pls be aware and not ignore them. Address these signs. They might cause you your own life in the end.
And he wanted his inheritance early cos he felt like a failure
Wow! I make the choice to read comments As I watch…. This spoiler was up quick. lNow I’m hanging in and making a bet on which son did it. The “quiet sensitive “ one or the “Outgoing “ one…. 😅

He had supportive, loving parents who wanted to help him be a responsible adult and he murders them in the worst way possible. So sickening.
They wanted the best for him and wanted to help him reach his potential. Even after the lies they would have helped him.
I wonder if he'll ever understand that?
They would have forgave him. They would have totally helped him get on his feet and held his hand through the whole thing, but nooo he thought: I need to redrum them instead. I never thought something like that when I had to tell my parents I messed up! Not ever would something like that cross my mind! He’s sick!
@@Juhani139I think he couldn’t imagine coming clean and being vulnerable.
That seems to destroy the belief of many who say, "every killer is a victim of abuse when they were a child." I never believed that. There are perhaps hundreds of cases of murderers (who killed their parents or others) but had wonderful childhoods, enjoying everything that money can buy, and having complacent and doting parents. No abuses at all. Conversely, there are probably millions of people who suffered horrors when they were children and never became murderers.
@@user-tz3dy7mt9e you’re absolutely correct! Some are just born to be bad. And no matter how good you are to them, their choice is to go dark. So extremely sad. Chris Watts, he’s one who I cannot understand at all, Scott Peterson, Casey Anthony, just an assortment of good childhoods
It was brought out that Chandler's mother had never seen him cry since he was a small child. Chris Watt's mom said the same thing about her son.
That’s spooky! I’ve never seen my husband cry we have known each other for 20 years.
@@GetRightOrGetLeft7I mean men tend to close up really badly, it's "normal" if we get older, try asking him what movie he cried about last or just watch hachiko (the dog movie, I don't know how to spell it)

What does that mean? I know some people that I have never seen cry and I thought that was weird... Like moments where they should have cried they didn't... I wonder what that means
Bull. What mother of a grown man has many opportunities to see a son cry? What did Chandler’s mom say was worth crying about?
Lack of crying denotes nothing.

I have no doubt his parents would have expected accountability for all his lies, but in the end, they would have tried to help him. Such a shame, live with it.
Until people decide to study narcissism/psychopathy, you will never understand people like Chandler. Their manipulation and diabolical nature are beyond our comprehension. May his parents RIP.
He’s probably beyond a narc smh
I nearly was murdered by my mentally ill husband. He put on quite a facade ie mask 🎭 for years. When I knew who he was, all hell broke loose with him.
My sister is especially cunning and desperate. We haven't spoken in three years. I had to set a boundary and honor it.
I am keenly aware of how these people think and behave as I had been around them and had dealt with them for 57 years. Lots of first hand experience. 😕
@@user-sg6sv9oi6i I understand. My husband and I both come from toxic families. Some people have no understanding about how devious and how good these people are at hiding their true selves but we do because we've experienced it.
The people like him are easy to understand, you just have to know that their brains don't work correctly. They don't feel guilt, pity, care or love for anyone but themselves. They care only for themselves. Once you understand that, they are easy to figure out and RUN as far as you can and build impenetrable boundaries. If you allow yourself to waver, you're doomed. My heart breaks for Joeys father and mother . The loss of your child is indescribable, like no other loss ever. However, losing a child suddenly was such a tragic circumstances is heart wrenching. Omg, Barbie Townsend! I went to college with one of her sons. She visited a lot and we always loved seeing her. Such a good-hearted person. And it didn’t surprise me one bit that she provided such an engaging, intelligent, and precise interview. Go Barbie!!
Do you remember her son's name, the one you went to college with? What college? When?
I think that dude came onto Joey, and he fought back, and it went downhill from there. That’s my take.
I agree 100 %
They'd have killed him anyway, whether he faught back or not. The only thing that might have saved him was having more power than they had. He didn't. The other thing that might have saved him was not having gotten envolved with them in the first place. The moment he decided to join them, that's when things started going downhill.
It crossed my mind too.
400M worth of security company... The irony. The heartbreak of a father is just as palpable as a mother.
Simple yet profound with all the bells and whistles. That's why I'm a 48 Hours lifer.
I love how disgusted Erin sounds when she says, "Chazzle Dazzle." 😂😂😂😂
Joey's father is heartbroken, his pain is palpable.
I think Joey"s fun night out pursuing hot girls ended up in a gay felon attempting a SA ending up in murdering him. They coerced him back in the apartment with promoses of drugs or something. Once girls leave, and its daylight, no incentive for a guy to hang out with 3 guys he just met. They enticed him back.
Or maybe he was gay too, or at least bi.
Yeah it was probably a gay thing, and Joey fought back.😢

All children need to be told, early and often, that anyone older than you who has a romantic interest in you--or who really wants to "hang out" with you--is someone messed up in the head. Anyone who says that you're "mature" for your age is a predator.
The Nicole Lovell case is extremely heartbreaking. Only 13 years old brutally murdered.. Social media is extremely dangerous for everyone, but especially for children ... too many dangerous sick in the head predators running around free as a bird
What a RELIEF it would have been to drop all the lies he was living.... can you even imagine juggling a half dozen major lies every day and never knowing what will happen. In a day or two he could have been on the way to getting his REAL life back together after telling his parents everything. I am baffled by his psychology. There is something going I can't quite see.
And it's not a unique crime. Just off the top of my head there's Syndey Powell and Jennifer Pan. Killed one or both parents for the same reason. So bizarre.
Why is 48 hours the best of all these classic true crime shows, it’s so entertaining.
"I survived" is also a good one.
The Chandler case haunts me more than any of these. A kid who has parents that love him dearly and every opportunity in the world wastes it all then kills his parents and has absolutely zero remorse. Unbelievable.
The Halderson case is chilling! It’s crazy scary what their own son did.
Who starts living with a guy you meet in a gym, pay for his everything, set him up in posh apartment unless there's an intimate relationship. James the con man did what he had to do to get a leg up

It amazes me how people forget there's cameras everywhere, and phones tracking their whereabouts.
Or that Google search records can be found, or car gps, or that with DNA it now doesn’t matter if you never had your DNA on record, they can find you if any relative is on the large genealogy database, or can tell your eye color, race, etc.
Chandler got caught by most all of those, and more, thought that his obvious lies would hold up under scrutiny.
I’ve never had Parents like what Chandler had, and I can Understand how perhaps he hated to **Disappoint them** by his flunking out of school and not having this “wonderful job position”, but murdering them was definitely **Not the Answer**. What’s the worse his Parents could have done after finding out his lies? They certainly wouldn’t have killed Chandler I’m almost certain.

Joey's family and friends did not truly know him. It's sad and unfortunate, but the decisions Joey made that fateful night, leaving his friends and separating from his phone, to go off with strangers reveal a weak character and undisciplined person. The lure to "social climb" and party at Sutton Place was so great to Joey that he left to attend another party without even inviting his friends. Did he perhaps conclude that his friends didn't belong in the circle he aspired to join? All that glitters is NOT gold.
I doubt it if it was a social climb issue. For Joey, upper crust to him is just ordinary. The real reason is girls but more on coke.
@mca4u do you have no sympathy? Have you never gone out? Do you have kids or a father whos your hero? Maybe weak defines you.....
That is the sort of comment that prompts the eternal - and angered - , "Stop blaming the victim!!" but you might have a point there, although I think that @myrnadelossantos1888 is closer to the truth.
I go beyond that: his lifestyle and that of his friends, was inherently dangerous. And I say more: I think his father was complacent and doting, and part of his agony, and of his uncontrollable crying, is due to the fact that he feels guilty for what happened to his son.
Nothing of that means Joey deserved to die that sort of death, but this is not a matter of "deservedness". It has to do with the fact that sometimes in life we place ourselves in dangerous situations, and suffer the consequences.
Let's also not forget that we have here a bunch of rich boys, having a good time (an expression frequently associated with death in YT crime documentaries), and with their situational awareness strongly reduced.
What we have in this case and in many others similar to it, is the lining-up of the Swiss cheese holes.

I have watched this before but still gives me chills in my stomach.
I can relate with the murderer unfortunately. In that I also had issues with my education and it became a stressor between me and my parents but I am glad I was honest with them and went through the humiliation and constant insults. My parent used to call relatives in and ask them to insult me for failing. Still I never thought of doing anything so extreme. Most worst I thought was of suicide but then I never tried it and I even completed my degree. It was very very tough time. As I suffer from mental health issues which affect my career.I wasn't failing because I was lazy or slow. I was failing because I was unwell and could not focus
What is your mental illness? I’m just curious.
@elara2498 Be proud that you finished. Don’t focus on the negative ( i.e. parents harsh treatment). You persevered despite obstacles and remember that is what builds resilience.
I love Erin's journalism. Always kind, yet direct! This kid Chandler is a little ant! I feel a lot of empathy for his brother who has been left all alone! He's better off without his brother but soooo sad at the loss of his Mom and Dad! R.l.P to them both!
Thank goodness Kat stood up to the little ant! Shameful and heinous actions. May you rot with the devil, Satan
I'd like to know how Chandler is holding up in prison. In fact, I think it would be interesting for reporters to look up killers in high-profile cases and report on how they are doing and feeling. Do they have any support? Have they confessed? Do they spend 23 hrs a day in their cell; how on earth do they cope?
Most of them are masters at denial and live in a reality built on lies of self-deception. But, I bet the horrors of their actions visit them in their dreams.
There's ample documentaries (on yt) on all sorts of dark triad types in prison that you could find to watch.
I actually wished that they'd do full-length documentaries on the victims (like how they lived before they were murdered) without the focus ALSO being the entire time on the perps. Or, well, that it's not ALL about the terrible thing that took them from us.
Something about the good they did in their lives... even if all it is, is a bunch of interview of people who knew they victims and who wished to share all the good they knew about the victims. But, maybe their lives were TOO boring? Anyhow... I wish we, as a society, honored the victims better.
Even IF their lives were boring. Most of them are only known to us THROUGH the evil acts perpetrated on them... I bet a lot of victims were good/nice people.
James’ attorneys look like they have cocaine for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks
Chandler Halderson’s lawyers are…. Wow. Lawyers of guilty people for sure are forced to defend them.
And Chandler asking for appeal, this guy is a self-serving, narcissistic, psychopathic monster.
Don't criticize the defence lawyers. They had almost nothing to work with and did their best with what they had.
@@JJJJ-gl2uf They shot off that _Hail Mary_ at the end, telling the jurors to "look at the evidence" and try'n figure out, if they could see how anyone else could have done it (reasonable doubt), fully knowing all the evidence pointed directly AT him. They should have worked harder to get him to admit his guilt and spare us all the trial. No one in jail is going to buy his posturing/posing. He's gonna have it rough.
@@JJJJ-gl2ufdid you watch?
“What happened to the Haldersons? You just wouldn’t know what happened?” Says the lawyer.
Ofc we won’t because the killer won’t talk because he is such a psychopath who won’t admit he killed his parents, maybe still with the delusion that he’s going to SpaceX. He is a serial liar, too. Lawyers also have the choice whether to accept or reject clients though, but for people like Chandler, what he did to his parents were gruesome and evil, and for this lawyer to still argue that he didn’t actually have anything to do wih their deaths, just wow.
They choose to be criminal lawyers. Thier client also has to agree to the defense put forward and whether to take a plea. Guilty or not, all Americans have the right to a fair trial and representation. On the other hand, appointed lawyers don’t get to pick and choose cases. I’m sure they realized this wasn’t going to be a win.
I am so happy to be single and childless. I rather be killed by a stranger or distant family member than my own flesh and blood or a person that vow to love me to sickness and health for the rest of my life.
The defense attorney didn't even speak her closing statements with any belief or conviction lol. The Jury definitely probably laughed the whole time.
Disgusting. I know this case. They loved him so much. Absolutely deplorable that he was their son.
I've seen this told story told over 50 different times in 50 different ways. It chills me to the bone every time. I have watched the 'family' and lack of love, empathy and kindness for parents dissolve right before my eyes over the past 30 years. The internet and quack CZcams therapists have desensitized complete generations of children and produced some scary narcissistic sociopaths.
So sad.
His parents would have been happy if he worked at home Depot!!!
Weird. All a young kid needs is a burner type phone. Let them kick, cry & scream. Parents don't allow their kids to go into a liquor store to buy a soda. Why allow them the possible gateway to six feet under?
that guy who killed both his parents can't be rehabilitated
The sound of that chelo brings me back every time! LoL
