How Alginate Helps Control Reflux: Real-Life Demonstration

  • Curious as to how alginates helps control reflux naturally, I created a little experiment using RefluxRaft, an alginate based reflux control product. Inside a glass bottle which represents the stomach, I already prefilled it with white vinegar heated to 98 degrees. The white vinegar itself with a pH of 4 represents the stomach acid. I then squirted the alginate product (0:23) into the glass bottle a bit over the recommended 1 teaspoon. Almost immediately, the alginate raft developed and floated to the surface!
    The same experiment was then performed in water (1:26)... The results may surprise you!

    It would've been good to slightly move the bottle when the raft was present to simulate body movement.

    I would like to see what happens if you lay it down. Like a person laying down to see if acid get's into the esophagus.

      It doesn't. I use Gaviscon. I haven't taken a Prilosec or any drug like that for almost a year. Changed my diet so that helps too.

    Are you not able to vomit if this is inside your stomach?

    I mean in a stomach full of food nothing is floating to the top. But if your dinner is a glass of vinegar then sodium alginate is for you.

    What would happen if you decide to have dessert? Does it sit on top of the alginate? Would you vomit/choke?
    How long does it last?

      This would have implications for taking medications after taking the alginate. For example, if you take alginate after the evening meal, will bedtime meds be appropriately absorbed?

    This stuff is working for my LPR. What I don't get is, can I not drink any water after taking the alginate? What would it do to the raft. Hard not to eat or drink anything for a few hours to wait for your meal to digest.

    • @chardunn8156
      @chardunn8156 Před měsícem

      Did LPR also cause you breathing difficulties? Also I think the stomach turns the water acidic anyway so I think it’s ok

    Why doesn't this stop my reflux? I took Betaine HCL with the alginate to make my stomach more acid and still no effect

    Seems like added a large volume of alginate - most alginate based products recommend 1-2 tspn only?

    This frankly looks like failed product? Result should be homogenous, bit foamy raft. It would actually prevent acid from spilling, compared to this raft made of many separate strings.

    • @nancylindsay4255
      @nancylindsay4255 Před 4 měsíci

      Surely there would be churning in the stomach but there was none in this demo.

    • @fuckyoutubehandIes
      @fuckyoutubehandIes Před měsícem

      the guy squirted directly from the bottle into vinegar creating strings while proper use is to squirt it on a tablespoon and swallow in one gulp, that way it lands in the acid in one big glob.
