What’s the The Mortal Instruments movie about?
On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, the typical New York City teenager, Clarissa Fray (Lily Collins from Emily in Paris and Rules Don't Apply), has a shocking revelation: instead of being an ordinary girl, Clary discovers that she is part of a mythical race: the Shadowhunters, protectors of humanity. Against the backdrop of the eternal battle between good and the dark forces of evil, Clary will find herself amid a fierce war with the supernatural, when her mother, Jocelyn (Lena Headey from Game of Thrones and Imagine Me & You) , is abducted. As someone who's read all the shadowhunter books i can say with ABSOLUTE certainty that the movie is MUCH better than the show. I'm sorry but it was perfect from casting to storyline, although i know that a few things were changed in the movie like the ending but they still made it quite accurate to the first book.
I also adore the cast (all of them) if i'm being honest, i know that people like Matthews Alec more cause of his looks & cause they got malec but to me he didn't give off Alec like Kevins did. Kevin looked older than a teenager yes but his aura and acting truly made me think of Alec from the books. Part of this has also to do with the bad writing in the show cause they made both the Lightwood siblings a lot nicer with Clary than they actually were, like it took them 3 books to actually become friends and love each other but in the show they made Izzy act all cheerful besties with Clary from the very start when she wasn't anything like that and don't even get me started on the parabatai bs.
I personally would have switched show Izzy with movie Izzy if her acting was better cause show Izzy looked more accurate to her description with the dark hair and dark eyes. What i liked about the movie actress is that she just like Kevin got the character right and is also a better actress but like i said before this also is the fault of bad writing in the show. Someone who they did cast really well was the actor for Magnus in the show, he was really good.
The rest of the cast is absolutely perfect like Simon, Hodge, Jace, Clary, Valentine, Luke, Jocelyn, Magnus etc looked exactly like i imagined them to look. I remember a lot of people complaining that Valentines actor looked too hot for his character and that he didn't have silver hair but Valentine has ALWAYS been described as a handsome musculair man with a youthful face so i don't know where they got that from? I do think that they should've sticked to the silver hair but who knows they tried and it might have looked really bad but despite that the actor absolutely killed it as the villain.
It's been ten years and i'm still so upset that we won't ever get a second movie, and it also won't be the same without Godfrey.

If I remember correctly, Jace is a son of a Herondale. Valentine adopted and raised him in place of his son Sebastian, which kind of made Sebastian hate Jace. It was really messy but still interesting in some way. Also, Clary's step-dad's little sister (forgot their names) was Jace's bio father's ex-wife. He meet his paternal grandmother once but at that time they weren't aware of their connection yet (And yes, the grandma was killed but I forgot who did it.)
If you have read the books they are not really related Valentine told jace to lie to her I think.
THEY ARE NOT SIBLINGS! jace’s father stephen herondale was a part of valentine’s fighting team against the shadowhunter rules/ and old minded rulers. Valentine
wanted to create better fighters he thinked that shadowhunters are weaker than vampires and others. He believed that he should make shadowhunters great again. So he found an angel and a demon to take their blood and enjected it to himself but it didn’t work out so he gave it younger ones which are jonathan(real brother of clary) and jace. Valentine gave potions ( angel blood)for better pregnancy to celine(jaces mother) but she didn’t know what it really is. And tried demon blood on his own son jonathan. When stephen died celine killed herself and Valentine took jace fron her stomach and raised him as a wayland. He faked his death and raised both jace and jonathan seperatly far from sight

This movie at some points were not that "on point" but this is still better than the TV show. This movie stays true to the book. Especially this revelation. I thought the series would be better but no. Not even close to this.

This has to be the worst ending is movies history. They left it în what is seems to be a vague clifhanger, one of The worst types even, and didn't cotninued the story at all. Way to go, deceive your audience, mamiingh it beleive it Will be a second part, where they might have more explanations, and make everyone be invested în their relationship only to reveal they were brother and Sister. Pretty shitty autor of books too, Cassandra apparently based her characters of Ron and Ginny Weasley from what i hear, trying to make a fanfic fantasy with incestuous relationship just because she hated them în Harry Potter 🙄 grow up Casandra, terrible writer, why was she given a platforma to begin with.
