  • What is there to say about Rosanjin? Quite a lot it seems, what an interesting character with such an interesting life. The more I found out, the more I realized I had to make this video. People like him with many skills encourage me to learn more and go further every day. I hope you enjoy learning a little about this multi talented artist. I was fortunate enough to view an exhibition displaying many of his works at Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum and wanted to take you along with me. I wanted to show just how varied his works actually were.

I am interested in Art that teaches us about life and ourselves and getting used to our imperfections. It is the imperfections that is Art. Pottery can never be perfect because it is created through imperfect people. Your pieces is a reflection of this belief.

Thank you so much! I think we are all surrounded by soulless mass produced items and my work is a reaction to that. I want to bring nature into peoples homes and create strong connections between ourselves and our belongings that serve our daily routines and rituals.

A lovely video Laura. I'd not heard of Rosanjin before watching this, but you've inspired me to find out more his work.

Awesome! I recommend the book I flick through at the end. I think it shows how varied his work was. He had a very modern approach to traditional techniques. The book is Kitaoji Rosanjin: A Revolutionary in the Art of Japanese Cuisine.

Nice presentation. Rosanjin was indeed a very interesting and inspiring man and artist. If you are not already familiar with the life of Ōtagaki Rengetsu (大田垣 蓮月), I highly recommend finding out about her, as she had also had a fascinating life and created very inspiring pieces of great originality and beauty.

Thank you so much! I have written about Otagaki Rengetsu but I haven’t yet put together a video. She is a big inspiration for me. I definitely plan to make one on her.
