I am a bus driver. I had a kid I drove that was in the third grade, nicest kid you could ever meet but the doctors said he wouldn't make it to the sixth grade. I drove him every year till he graduated high school and then attended his funeral two years later. I still think about him to this day. RIP Logan you are missed.

For those who are unaware, this was based on a true story. The little boy lived in Mexico, and he was disabled. He had a friend maybe 2 years older than he. He did not have the fortune to attend a special school as they show here. But his friend would read, "jump" rope with him, color for him, always kept him company. Until he became very ill, and passed away in his humble home. The friend was heartbroken. Everyone in the neighborhood respected his friend so much! For they knew what a great friend he had been to his disabled friend 💔 He told Everyone he would become a teacher to special need students. I take it he kept his word. If you look for CUERDAS shorts, you will see the real kid and his friend.

As the father of a disabled 13-year-old son who suffers from the life-shortening disease MLD, it's incredible to see how the makers of the film have brought out the expression in the boy's eyes. There is so much non-verbal communication in it. I can 100% relate it to my son's eyes. Well done! And it's always nice to learn that in real life there are many people like Maria who treat disability the way it should be treated: as normalcy.

He holds a special spot in my heart that is only for him and our memories. Now he’s almost 22 and I’m a nurse thanks to all of the kind nurses he had growing up who were also just as amazing to the little girl who just wanted to play with her brother and ask endless questions ❤️ looking back, he not only taught me what strength and resilience are, but how to enjoy the simplicity of life, and most importantly…how to have a tender heart towards others 🤍 I ask god to ease any pain or frustration he has, grant my mother the highest ranks of paradise for the loving care she gives him, and for all who get to know him to be touched by his priceless smile that lights up any room….ameen

This was from an interview with the director:
Is there a strong personal inspiration which lies behind the movie?
Without a doubt! This story was inspired by my daughter Alejandra and her behavior with her brother Nicolás. Nicolás is my youngest son. He suffers severe cerebral palsy due to a lack of oxygen when he was born. This situation stops him from doing the basic things of a child. He can’t eat by himself, can’t walk nor talk; he is just like the main character in ‘Cuerdas’. Despite this situation Alejandra has always played with him with affection and imagination and was his greatest stimulus even now that she is nineteen years old and Nicolás twelve.

This is the best short story film ever!!! This short film reminds me when I tried to help and spend time with my grandma that currently has dementia. I was like Maria to her. For an example, I always put eye drops in my grandma's eye, because she couldn't do it for herself, due to her dementia, but that's no problem for me. Another example, when she mixes up her story telling, I try my best to understand, and not ignore her. I love my grandma a lot and loves me back. If she died, like the boy in the short film did, I would react the same as Maria, by being extremely sad.

@KinyACat I don't think Maria stayed with him due to kindness.... Children don't know what kindness is... They see everyone as equals, as living beings
Kindness lasts for a while. When somebody cries, we go to give him our sympathies... But after that we retreat...because "laugh and the world will laugh with you, cry and the world will wallow blah blah"
Try giving someone sympathies and then staying forever with him/her as a friend... It's never possible. I learnt this the hard way. It's better to not give them hopes at all if you're not going to stay...
In this lockdown I chatted with a random guy from my class whom I didn't know. Turns out that he was a disabled kid who had no friends and a low self esteem. He didn't reveal the fact when we chatted in fear that the friendship will end... And when he did, that's what happened.. Because a friendship built on sympathy will never last. I didn't ditch him or something(please don't curse me)... He was very needy and sad... And had a impatience problem... When he revealed everything, I really felt sad and I offered my sympathies and consoled him... I boosted his self esteem and maybe made him more optimistic.... But I couldn't stay longer than 2 months.... It simply wasn't appealing
(For those who thinking how could this be a friendship... Well, it wasn't a proper friendship. It was just a chat... And I didn't notice... But it was one-sided damn... It was always me who told and he who reacted(using damned emojis which don't reveal at all what's going on in the minds))
So for those of you who have thought about being friends with a friendless guy/girl who's sad/ needy.... DON'T. It'll end up hurting that guy/girl even more. Only kids that are pure and untouched by the world can do it.

I love how this is accurate yet still amazing. Yes, that is how a kid would react at first. But then she found out and was okay with it. She believed in him when nobody else did.

So beautiful. If this is a true story , Im sure the boy was very happy and blessed to have a person similar to Maria in his life. There's still good and kind people out there in our world.❤

This little girl is the definition of solidarity. Whenever the other kids rejected the boy because of his condition she never left his side until he passed away. God bless her, god bless her everyday 😭

She not only gave him physical therapy but she made his heart and mind soar farther than he ever thought possible, so when he left he was the happiest kid in the world. 😭❤

I was the only kid in class treating a boy with brain tumor nice, during elementary years, I remember getting talked about, no one wanted to sit with him at lunch, one time on valentines day everyone got candy, but I got a big paper heart from him.Kindness does go around. I miss seeing him, but hadn't seen him in years.
