I'm so glad someone is finally reacting to this song. I've always loved it. The "my job is very boring" line always makes me laugh because back then, Martha worked for my mom.
get out!! lol that's hilarious and also awesome.
Toronto Band.....big hit, and tons or radio play here in Canada.....loved this tune!
It was somewhere around 1978 that my roommate dragged me down to a funky little Queen Street bar to see pre-"Echo Beach" M+M. Little did we know ~ but were not at all surprised ~ that they would have an international hit. They were good!
One songs you will never forget great music and great live performances
oh yes! you found Martha + the Muffins!! They have so many good tunes! Other awesome Canadian bands from 80s to try is The Spoons, Blue Peter, Moev, Strange Advance, Images In Vogue, Platinum Blonde, Parachute Club, The Northern Pikes...
Next try M+M's Danseparc!
Took me back to its being played on our mono FM radio at work and home!! Echo Beach was a brilliant song, and watching the video excellently produced - Great times.
Another song from this era that i think you would like is Will You by Hazel O'Connor. It's great song with an amazing sax solo.
This song is just so much fun! So glad you've discovered it.
This was constantly on play rotate on radio back then. Constantly popped up for years and years. Love it. Remember bouncing along in the car to it
Well the Canadians in the audience are gonna love you for checking this one out. Back to the 80's and my teens
Great watching you get into this ole gem.
This song and band was such a great gateway for me... it got me hearing other bands like Boys Brigade, The Spoons, Parachute Club, Doug & The Slugs, Luba...
Top tune ! Did great in the U.K. charts
Still have my copy on 7 inch same cover
One of my favourite 80s songs.
New wave sound with a sax made it vogue music, a perfect little song.
It was a one hit wonder in the UK. The local girls here in Cardiff, Wales loved it in particular. Personally, I think it was a classic.
So this is a new song just released in 2024.... life is good again.... it's number one..feel good song for the ages.... people put down their handy coms to dance with friends ....... oh..no, just another 80s banger!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes loved this sone when it came out.
The chorus ar the end is so infectious!
So many fond memories.
An iconic song of my teenage years. How can you not bop or tap your feet to this banger from yesteryear?
Everytime i hear one of those words, it makes me giggle 😂 🇬🇧
This song came out in my first year at high school in Toronto. I loved it and choreographed a dance routine around it for a class. I was thrilled that it charted in so many countries.
Another New Wave song of the era was Nova Heart by the Toronto area (Burlington to be precise) band The Spoons. Great New Wave song that sadly did not get beyond Canadian borders but should have.
Also check out another great feel-good song, Rise Up by the Parachute Club, another Toronto band from the 80's. Not New Wave but has more of a world music feel. Use the Canadian version, they also released it in the US - it got mellowed and some of the lyrics changed and it was watered down completely. To this day, I cannot listen or watch the US version/video.
I do like to see Canadian music getting requested on one of these channels. There's so much good music from here that didn't get a lot of exposure in the States.
Great reaction, you’ll only have to hear this a couple of times and you be singing along ❤
So glad you enjoyed this one so much. They're actually one of my favorite bands, but you nailed it with this one. So catchy, so dreamy, really well put together. I may have to send you more from them. They're super cool. The lead vocalist, Martha Johnson and the guitarist, Mark Gane, are married and are still making music, despite the fact that Martha has Parkinson's disease now. She's still writing songs and singing and playing keyboards on new releases.
That was a trip back to earlier times and places for me. Thanks to SG for the reaction.
Great song. It’s also on a brilliant compilation album, Sound of the Suburbs, which has some other great New Wave/Punk/Mod artists like The Jam, The Undertones, Boomtown Rats and Squeeze. Every track an absolute banger.
I could listen to this song over and over
There is an Echo Beach in Saskatchewan and we loved this!!! 🇨🇦🖖🏻
Great song - I remember it from childhood onwards ❤
80's music is the best. I know it didn't chart in the US but everyone knew this song.
This song is fire.🔥 I have loved this song for years.
Yes, I love this song so much!
Brings back memories!
Canada rocks!
Brilliant song, loved hearing it & dancing to it at the time. Now my 25 yr old child loves it too, how great is that?!
When I was 14 I won tickets to see them from a radio station when this was a hit. Didn't have a car so I gave them away.
This brings back so many memories! As I was brought up by a beautiful beach it really means a lot to me! Thanks for this Sal.
The beginning of MTV and MuchMusic spawned a great era in music. Smaller groups could get airplay and flourish. Canada had a ton of groups at that level and higher. A couple I haven't seen reacted to yet are The Spoons (Old Emotions, Romantic Traffic) and The Partland Brothers (Soul City, Honest Man)
The female keyboard player went on to play keyboards and sing with Scottish band The Associates.
Yep.He should check out Party Fears Two and Club Country.Like no other band.
Canada has shitloads of good music in the 80s.
I call it: “one hit, one miracle” ✨✨✨, this is the best song of this Canadian band.
M&M another great Canadian band. You should also check out Spoons. Romantic Traffic is an awesome song.
Check out Trooper, Northern Pikes, Pursuit of Happiness. So many great under rated Canadian groups.
One of my top 20 fav 80s songs !!!
Guitar sounds like The Cure.
Omg...this was huge!❤🎶
remember vis songn sang along wit.
I may be wrong, but I think there is an echo beach in Australia
80"s tunes, are the best, love the channel, Could you please check out Hazel O' Connor Will You such an amazing song, thank you
Ish…..
