How on Earth is that great punditry? He doesn’t even say anything remotely interesting

It is interesting. Value isn’t tied to the dollar amount, it’s relative to performance.
You can’t say you overpaid until you actually see the results. History doesn’t mean anything.

He predicted Hazard's real Madrid career way back.

Rafa was good enough at football as a child to consider becoming a footballer, but he chose tennis.
His uncle Miguel Ángel Nadal played for Barcelona and the Spain national team.
When Spain won the football World Cup in 2010 Nadal was the only non-footballer to be invited into the locker room to celebrate with the national football team.

Looked like the question was a bit unexpected, but good answer to be fair!

That makes perfect sense. I actually reckon this is a great take from Nadal and a great way to look at any transfer.
It’s like if you sign someone for cheap and they’re bad then they were a cheap player but if they play unbelievable they’re a bargain. Rafa knows 🧠

Actually the opposite of what he said lad, he said if you sign someone for cheap (not as cheap back then but still) and they play bad, then it is a lot of money, but if you spend loads and they perform very well, it isnt as much because it is worth it

It's hard for him to articulate it in english as it's not his native language - but "expensive" is a relative term and therefore largely meaningless. Value-for-money is what matters and time will prove that. £80m for Cristiano was not expensive, but £50m for a bad player is expensive, even though it's less. That's what Nadal is saying.
