How To Read Urine Test Strips

- Here is a quick video that shows you how to read your urine test strips. These particular strips by Med Lab Diagnostics have 11 different parameters you can test to track your health. Follow the steps in the video to quickly and easily read your urine strips. These strips test for Leukocyte, Nitrite, Urobilinogen, Protein, pH, Blood, Specific Gravity, Ascorbate, Ketones, Bilirubin, and Glucose.
*Make sure to read the results against the chart with the leukocyte pad facing up*.

It is also noted on the bottle, to NOT TOUCH the TEST STRIP AREAS; which you do in the video. It can cause inaccurate results.

WHEW! glad i watched this haha, had bought some like a year ago and just tried em tonight randomly and my leukocytes where super purple! freaked out a lil and This was the first vid i pulled up and ur intro made me look at an unused strip, they are all bad/expired hah.

Please delete/ignore 2:44-2:50 when the narrator says you can skip the individual timing of the tests and read the whole strip at 2 minutes. That approach will give false positives or erroneous test results. The little numbers are there for a reason. The reason is that that is when each test is accurate. The chemical reactions that cause the color changes continue to darken over time. So if you wait until 2 minutes some of the test pads may have gone several shades darker from where the true result is.

I use a clean desiccant pouch / canister in the urine strip bottle to attempt to extend strip life.and, then store the strip bottle away from the bathroom, in a low place, to avoid heat.

Make sure to use high CRI light to compare colours. Only very high quality led lights, or halogen light, or the best - natural sunlight

Stick is very sensitive to light, moisture and temperature. Your hand might be moist, hot and it can affect reading significantly and decreases shelf life. I am registered nurse. People tend to forget to check colour, clarity of urune and straightforward dip the stick which I feel it's wrong practice.

What di the numbers on the right mean . Those above the colours. I dont mean the ones that tells you how many seconds it will take . I mean the ones on the right above the coloured boxex on the bottle.
My question is if the colour on the text strip is the same thing ...which one is negative and positive

Does this result not concern. Does this not mean that you have an unknown Kidney disfunction esp. if this is a constant over many months. You should be at the opposite end of the scale. Females are a little higher on the PH but not at the other end of the chart.

No, those are only used for blood glucose.

You never mentioned what the ideal reading or colour should be. How would one know when a reading looks normal or is a cause for concern?

I am using the URS-10 test that checks for microalbumin and the color is a much brighter blue than the colors on the chart. The protein is negative. It remains yellow, but I’m concerned about this sky blue microalbumin result. Is this unusual or can these strips be inconsistent for checking microalbumin? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
Mine do the same thing. I don't think these are accurate honestly.
If the strips last 60 to 90 days. So really, it’s not advisable to buy a pack with a 100 strips ?

JUST COMPLETED TEST AND THAT SHOWS BLOOD Colour result of +++200 and S.G colour result of 1030 please can you explain what that means
When I use a test strip I get inconclusive results if you can call it that... My leukocyte 'square' turns fairly deep purple in the middle, but remains its original 'white' color towards the rims. My protein 'square' is also weird and goes dark blue/green in the rims, but remains its original color in the middle. Are these false positives or not? I've had these for a few months now so I'm guessing it's nothing of importance really. But it still confuses me as to how I'm supposed to interpret it, while the other 'squares' behaves like they're supposed to de. Do any of you have an idea of what I should do about this?

Wouldn't you start at the bottom, 30 secs, then up to 60 sec items etc and you have to keep up. Should have someone else watching the clock, recording the results. I think she said just wait the 120 to do them all which would be a big blunder.

I really wish you would center the bottle when you go through the test. Towards the middle to end of the video you just keep it slanted and don't spin it one by one for the results. I was waiting specifically for some of the other tests and didn't get a good look at them and you kinda hurried through talking about the rest of them. I'm confused about how to read the creatine and wish you were as thorough speaking about that as you were with the first rhings

Positive protein result… does that mean you have protein in your urine? Which means you are eating unused protein? Which would be the goal if you were a bodybuilder? i.e. you’re getting enough protein in your diet, not deficient?
Is your Urine Foamy when you Urine into a Clear Glass?? NOT the Toilet.. If so and with the High Reading on the Strip.. You should have your Kidney Function Checked.. CREATININE and GFR.. PRONTO.. I have Stage 3a CKD. I have Maintained this Level for 5 years with Diet and Distilled Water. Tap Water isnt anywhere Near Safe to Drink Everywhere.. And you can have CKD without Pain or many other Symptoms.
No, protein shouldnt be in urine. Its the kidneys job to mantain the protein in the body (even at large amounts), if you got protein in your urine you should check with a doc
Any urine test protein results showing even trace amounts, could be medications or possible kidney problems (disease)

Who's ever pee that is needs to go to the kidney specialist ASAP. Any trace of protein in urin is a sign of kidney desease.

No not any trace. You can have small amounts and be fine. It's large amounts you want to worry about. Few years back, I had protein in urine and did a bunch of tests, had kidney ultrasound etc and everything was fins.
Good because that worried me lol. I took this test and was a little out of the range.
Traces should mean you need to start care....that's all don't panic.
