    Note the pic of the recommended firing position. Gas discharge ranging slot is designed to direct excess gas away from the user's face. The "not kicking up dust" theory would only work if you tried firing it normal way up and tried taking the recoil in your shoulder. Good luck with that one.

    Great historical video! I have picked up one of the Century Arms D&P SMLEs with my C&R.

    These are fired upside down with the top rear of the stock in the dirt to not break the stock toe, that would point the gas vent slot down so the shooter doesnt get blasted with gas. They maintained 45° angle & just used the vent door only for range😊

    Great video on the discharges. Shooting tennis balls out of the cups sounds like fun lol. Saw a few videos of them a few years back actually. Thanks for sharing!

    After seeing a vid on these a few months ago, i got 5 of these w/launchers for $85ea. They are tagged to be RFI but one was 1918 British. They're in better shape than i expected, they cleaned up well. 2 had short, 2 had med. & one had a long stock. Without the launcher they're only $50. A good source of parts if nothing else. The 3 that have safety's, the safety's are seriously worn out. 2 had matching s/n's😊

      They're definitely a good deal and make for fun projects.

    Great video, I've seen these drill rifles around and thought about getting one, but that extra value of the grenade cup is probably too good a deal to pass up!

      Thanks! It's definitely worth it for the grenade cup.

    Great video...and wow!...$85 for an SMLE in DP condition...plus a rifle grenade launcher?...thats an awesome price....👍👍👍here in the UK you'd be lucky to get change out of £400 for the same set up...in fact it might be more , cheers 🙂🙂

    When you install the cup, you first loosen the little collar inside, then clamp the cup to the nosecap. The inner collar is then screwed down into LIGHT contact with the barrel. The idea being, the barrel and woodwork share the shock of discharge. Heavy contact was to be avoided, as it could potentially bend the barrel. 😬

      hi i am glad you mentioned the threaded collar/tube inside the base of the discharger most videos dont mention it even ian at forgotten weapons for got to mention it , by screwing it down it also allows for the variation of the muzzle crown in relation to the nose cap and help forms a gas seal between the barrel and discharger 👍

    All 5 of my grenade cups have an equal sized notch on each side ware it clears the bbl so it can go on eather way😊

    Neat addition, the rifle turned out looking good. May have to go and snag one but can’t figure out how to order direct from them, they direct me to my local dealer.

      You need a C&R license and have to register it with them.

    I got one of these. I may finish it as a wall hanger some day but right now it would cost way more than the drill rifle for the parts mine is missing. It is cool to have the grenade cup. Mine was SUPER rusty, had to boil and card it but turned out nice. It was blued instead of paint.
    I wonder if a guy could drill the rod out they used to demill, re-weld it, and use it just for blanks with the grenade cup to launch tennis balls? I'd never shoot live rounds in one but the pressure of a blank launching a tennis ball isn't too crazy.

      @usna98  Před rokem +1

      It's possible. I have heard of people putting in a .22 barrel sleeve kit in these DP rifles and shooting them that way though.

      I just got 5 of these about 3 months ago with the intention of rebarreling them to a shooter. I planned to rebarrel, put short rod in rcvr holes & weld over top. The 303 brit is fairly low pressure ctg, only about 48,000lbs. The problem is they seem to of welded it with diamonds, it's so hard a carbide endmill won't even cut it. I've got to regroup & give it more thought, like a small grinder maby😊

      Good question. Often need to assemble military equipment in complete darkness so may have something to do with "knowing orientation by the feel" and an alternative firing position that required the excess gas slot to face the opposite direction. Would be interesting to find the answer. National Army museum London might hold the answer. .
