The description should specify that it's 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game. Tom Cheney struck out 21 batters in a 16-inning complete game victory back in 1962.

The video's title is kinda misleading: these 4 pitchers recorded 20 strikeouts in 9 innings of a game. Tom Cheney striking out 21 batters in 16 innings on 9/12/1962 is still a legendary yet obscured performance.

Baseball is such a beautiful game. There are so many moments where fans from all teams can appreciate great efforts by players no matter who they are or what their team is.

You have to really appreciate the pitcher vs batter aspect to be able to watch it. A lot of people don’t think it has enough action, but if you like pitching it’s action on every play.

Like him, love him or hate him Clemens was a beast and that is undeniable. He also struck out 15 in the ALCS against the Mariners. I was lucky enough to see that one live.

Everyone just points out the steroid use. Tons of guys from that era were roided up. He managed to win 7 Cy Young awards at a time when many of the hitters he was mowing down were using roids too. His dominance was undeniable.

Kerry Wood had a favorable strike zone. He was getting the outside pitch and he knew it.
Johnson and Clemens did it with just nasty stuff. Same with Scherzer. For Scherzer to do it with the hitters we have now days is insane

God i miss the days when pitchers were allowed to pitch more than 6 innings a game. Just look at Clemens' first 20 K game. That was his 4th complete game and it was only like the 3rd week of the season. Guys nowadays can go their whole career and not get 4 complete games. And even though pitch counts and innings limits are getting lower every year, the rate of injuries to pitchers is still increasing. Something is wrong with the way pitchers are developed nowadays.

Bill James : his stats come from the slow ball era at the turn of the 19th Century. Kerry Wood’s stats come from a juicer era when players could hit for immediate power and average and they had strength.
Houston was a first place team.
Kerry Wood not only struck out 20 but he walked a big “Goose Egg 🥚 “ yeah 0.
And the hit that he allowed was a squibler infield hit.
I would much rather appreciate his game as the best game or a top 3 in the history of MLB.
