How did I not see this video the day it was first posted??? Always a pleasure to hear you talk about books, Helene. To use a good American figure of speech, you get me "fired up" to read!---Since you're interested in therapists you might enjoy the novel "August" by Judith Rossner. It goes back to maybe the 1980's. I believe it's about a doctor in New York City during the month of August when many people are away on vacation. I have to admit I know of the book but haven't read it!---You could call me a Gothic Guy because I like stories with big old houses and if the house is haunted: all the better. "Woman in the Mirror" sounds like a fun read.---I'm from a small town in the U.S. so "'Salem's Lot" was a story that had some familiarity to me though I'm from another part of the country.---I went past a Little Free Library today and took a copy of "The Beautiful and the Damned" by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I'd love to reread Fingersmith at some point. Such an enjoyable thrilling read! Good to hear you found rereading it as rewarding as the first time around. I wonder how long it will take for Sarah Waters to publish a new novel.
And so good to hear your thoughts on The Starless Sea as I've been keen to read it.
Enjoy your library books! We're still waiting for the libraries to reopen here in the UK.

Yeah, how long has it been since Sarah Waters last published? She must have something good in the works :) I'd be very curious to see what you think of "The Starless Sea"!

@@helenejeppesen2133 Her most recent novel was The Paying Guests which came out in 2014! But she's always been a slow writer. 🤞she's working on something good.

I've had A Fine Balance on my shelves for a very long time and keep meaning to read it and after listening to your review I think I'll pick it up real soon. I love getting lost in big books especially ones set in a different country. Thanks for the reminder to get to it.

I hope to like it as much as you !

I had a similar reaction to The starless sea - beautiful to start with but lost something towards the end. The fingersmith sounds intriguing.

I loved Maybe You Should Talk To Someone as well :) So eye-opening, albeit centered on priviledged/white/well-off patients and therapist.

I hope to read Maybe You Should Talk to Someone and Fingersmith. Both have been recommended by so many readers. It’s funny that two of your reads I read soooo long ago- Salem’s Lot and A Fine Balance. I don’t remember if I liked SL but AFB was the first book I read set in India. I was impressed by Mistry’s writing but I must read it again. I went adrift in The Starless Sea 😁 and thought it went on too long. I even shouted out loud “Enough with the doors already!” I enjoyed your video. I’m missing that sassy Zeus!🐈

  • @agameoffangsandthrones584

Erin Morgensterns books - the Starless Sea and the Night circus read more to me like scenes and snippets of multiple stories happening at the same time - I hope that makes sense. But the writing in The Starless Sea was so dreamlike and I agree with you on the ending - it loses something

Oh! That's the second recent recommendation I've heard for A Fine Balance 🤔 very curious now, I really enjoy a big, sprawling novel set in India during the hot summer heat .... just feels the right time? Best to you and 🐈

My favorite booktubers are Helene and Eric who commented below. Both seem like beautiful people and watching them makes my life sooo much better. I know that Helene usually does not embrace Stephen King books, and yes some are rather simple, but two that are fascinating and prove King can write great characters are Delores Claiborne and The Green Mile. My favorites of all of the King books I have read. Peace.

Looks like you had a nice reading month. I found you are having trouble with the difference between lend and borrow. You said "I borrowed a book to them" but it's "I lent a book to them." Now, normally I wouldn't correct someone's English without them asking but since you are a teacher and I've now heard you make this mistake a few times I thought maybe I could permit myself to help you out on this one thing.
    With Active voice.
I borrowed a book from my friend.
I lent a book to my friend.
    With passive voice.
I was lent a book by my friend.
My friend borrowed a book from me.
Hope I haven't overstepped my bounds and that was helpful.
