Teddy boys actually cam out just after WW2, its based on Edwardian England Teddy was the nickname of King Edward, Rock ''N'' Roll actually appeared way after Teddy boys hit the scene and actually calmed the situation down, redirecting angry British youth and giving them an identity after the war, it had nothing to do with Latin America, or America, the American influence came in with Rock ''N'' Roll which was way after the Teds started.
The Teddy Boys came out around 1951 not after the war. They were influenced by Middle Class ex-Army styles but also by Latin Zoot Suit style. Also, the original Teddy Boys were not an angry bunch. They cared about looking cool and dapper, chasing girls and enjoying life. Very few got into trouble. You are confusing Teddy Boys with Cosh Boys. Don't believe the hype. I was a Teddy Boy in the 50's.
@@cooldaddy2877 your veiw is dependant on what area plus what gang you were involved in, for instance south London had the spivs, a gang of Teddy boys which were not only quite violent but also ran the areas Brothels in the early 50's, I was a Teddy boy in the late 70's and early 80's, the second wave If you like, the teddy boy gangs during that period were beset on all sides with opposing gangs, we fought the second post quadrophenia Mod movement the punk Rockers and also the Skinheads, this happened mostly in London and the south east of England, so violence was ever present for Teddy boys during the second wave.
I remember Crazy Cavan concert in Nuneaton when kicking out time. The Teds throwing tables and chairs at bouncers. Teds singing we want more then the Police came. Out side Punk concert and Police trying to keep us apart. Got back to Coventry then Police pulled us over in 50s car. Stopped at chippy then Punks chased us and car stool ed. but we got away. Tear it up.
Teds vs Punks! I attacked a punk in the early 90's for ironically calling me Elvis. He was hospitalized :D Today I'm out of the old age.. my bones are already hurting..
i saved up hard from the day i started work in 1976 to get my dark blue 3 piece made half cut collar with half moon breast pockets on the breast and the box pocket , no flaps just edged with velvet , i went into john colliers every week with to see how it was coming along , total cost £300.00 . instead of 31 years of marriage i should have done 10 for manslaughter lol she was clearing out before a move and she slung me suit and leathers away , that's the day the marriage died

people who make fun of /hate a lifestyle people choose are just envious of them because they are not apart of it and they feel lost because they don't belong/fit in anywhere. We as humans no matter what even if we don't want to admit it we have the need to belong/fit in somewhere and if we don't feel that we belong/fit in we have to put down a group/person who has found a group of people who they feel like they belong to because those people who are spreading the hate either don't understand or they feel rejected or the hate is out of complete fear because they don't know anything about it ....I think Teddy boys/girls are cool they are part of history weather people like it or not....Remember Fear brings the Hate , and Hate brings on the Fear....
I'm really getting fed up with people visiting these sites and talking crap about Teddy boys being racist. They obviously know nothing or have no understanding about the 40's or 50's when over 80% of the country was racist, mainly through ignorance. Get a history lesson before stating your views.
I was a Teddy Boy in the 50's. We had some black Teds and I remember one Pakistani Ted who wore a turban. We called them pakis (short for Pakistani), we called the blacks a certain word you cant use today, a pet-form of a latin word for black. Both of them called us whitey, creamy, pale face, milk bottle tops and much more. No one ever thought these terms as racist and we all got on well. It was the style and music that mattered.

I'm american, so I can't say I grew up around it, but I do know the teds weren't "rich kids".
Trust a yank to get things backwards

haven't seen any Teds in years - does it still attract youngsters?? also, I've always wanted to know what Teds thought of Showaddywaddy.
