It really is difficult to get across how important Lance Russell was to the Memphis territory. He wasn't just the anchor of their announcing, he was very important in helping Jarrett get TV in places like Louisville.
Lance was also a fantastic person. He hired my father to be a camera man because my dad had just married my mom and they were expecting a child. A real class act.
This is the best podcast in my opinion.

Michael Keaton is a hell of a nice guy and was a very good Hockey player. He used to play at the Burbank league here in Los Angeles when he could at the old Pickwick Ice Rink. There he was just another guy getting some exercise and having a good time.

Lance Russell was THE voice of Memphis. He got everyone excited on what to look forward to on the cards! I loved the skit with him and Lawler when they reversed their roles and called Jerry "big nose"! Haha, priceless!

If Dutch loves Michael Keaton movies, I recommend 'The Founder.' It's about Ray Kroc, who was in charge of turning McDonald's into franchises and ended up out-leveraging the McDonald brothers out of their own restaurant chain and took over the whole company. This movie came out just a few years ago...

IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT SMW: Cornette shut down SMW because he didn't want to owe Rick Ruben or anyone else any money to keep it going. He said everybody back but it took a few months. If he had kept it going a few more years it may have been on par with ECW. Not sure if it would still be around today, but he could have enjoyed the boom period of the late 90s early 2000s IMO...
It’s likely that some of the “superfans” who are in the front row for every PPV are given free or substantially discounted seats.

Tickets are ridiculous. I went to a spot show for WWE in Bossier City Louisiana. 40 each for a ticket so 80 for me and my son. 10 to park. 7 dollar cokes 8 dollar hot dogs plus some merch i spent like 200 total. Show wasn't great. But Omos and Rhea Ripley were there. So that was cool
Those expensive front row WM tickets are being sold to corporations who can afford them and write them off as a business outing...

On Cornette’s podcast, he got out his old accounting books from Smoky Mountain and did a breakdown of the money situation in Smoky Mountain. Both Jim and Rubin had money invested in the promotion. Jim paid off all the wrestlers. The only people that got stiffed was a production company that pulled a switch and bait tactic on Jim, not knowing the company was closing. So, he screwed them over, and admits to it.

It is incredible how any wrestler learned anything, back in Dutch's days! It always sounds that they let you do al lthe mistakes, while expecting you, at the same time, to already know what is correct and what's wrong. not to speak about aaaall those unwritten locker room rules! And if you didn't know how things work, which as a green horn, you certainly don't know, they let you learn it the hard way. So a lucky guy was who had someone who tought you all those things in a polite way!

But other than names not 1 thing you said was correct about smokey mountain and 1st it never went belly up jim closed it months before it would'veķ....unlike Paul Heyman who lied and used wrestlers money and credit cards to pay for things nothing was paid back and people are still owed money from ECW to this day,jimmy stiffed a couple radio stations and a poster maker copier place,,,no wrestlers and jimmy did put his own money as well as Paul Reubens as a backer,but guys you were embarrassing yourselves please "We the people" deserve better..
