    • @derekskelton4187
      @derekskelton4187 Pƙed 2 lety +5

      If you start Hellenic you can swear fealty to someone strong with religious and title protection, and have a really chill game where you just conquer all the holy sites with nobody able to touch you. If you wanna do it the hard way just be Norse and get the Apostate perk. Should only cost a few hundred piety It's a huge exploit with the new cultures

    • @iJaceify
      @iJaceify Pƙed 2 lety +3

      @@Pedrojerico I was doing it the way of starting out with Hellenism through the character creator. The real difficulties I ran into was the time that it took to convert people, and all the Catholics hating you. I think Derek Shelton has the right idea, just slowly conquer all the holy sites so you can reform the faith. Or as both Derek and Justin suggested, be Norse and just sacrifice enough people to reinstate it outright.

    • @Pedrojerico
      @Pedrojerico Pƙed 2 lety +6

      @@iJaceify That's how I did it too, started norse. but it still takes decades to convert each county to hellenism, due to the organized > unreformed conversion debuff and Hellenism being pluralist on top of that, so I reformed the religion and stayed as a vassal of the Byzantine empire until I though I was strong enough to fend off the crusades. You can also try to dismantle the papacy before reforming or becoming independent.

    Mali is another really nice country to play for this kind of tall gameplay. They have the Mali gold mines, which are a set of 3 gold mines between two duchies. If you start there you won't need to worry about reducing building costs because you won't have enough ways to get rid of your gold. Each gold mine at level 1 gives 10 gold per month. One of the gold mines is in floodplains and is your starting capital.
    Main issue will be getting feudal there I expect. And their culture doesn't have the agriculture trait, but you can reform for that.

      mali is like starting in bohemia, playing on easy mode, but fun.
      sardinia also has the gold mine and a good starting place for what ever you want.
      a fun one is innbruck, in a mountain area, its really cheap and a good place for building op the holy roman empire!

    I’ve got a good strategy I’ve tested out. Not sure if anyone else has done this yet! It goes like this:
    1. Start as Viking
    2. Raid for fat stacks
    3. Do a Viking invasion of a kingdom in Italy/Greece(Rome or Constantinople preferably.) Then you need to promote cultural acceptance with Greeks.
    4. DONT convert, DONT adopt local culture. Raid your wealthy neighbors, marry for traits, maintain as many Varangian veterans as possible. It’s okay to have negative money per month. Raid!
    5. Capture the mines.
    You might be thinking that this is literally a normal Viking strat. Here’s where the difference comes. We’re going to use the new culture system.
    6. Once you have enough cultural acceptance with Greeks, form the Greco-Norse culture. Keep all the Byzantine men at arms buffs and keep access to your men at arms. You will have the most powerful men at arms.
    7. After you have raided to your hearts content get ready to reform or convert to a religion. If you can, get Hellenism.
    8. Now you can reform the Roman Empire, have a cool religion, and have the most powerful military around. Hopefully all is done before the mid game crisis known as the Mongols.
    I play with a mod that buffs the Mongols.

    Really fun to watch episode! :D I love the little meme edits you sneak into the video!
    As for culture traditions: You would have been able to break the game even harder if you replaced the City Keepers with the respective castle or temple based equivalent tradition, depending on your building preference I think. And "Communal Lands" is also a really damn strong tradition you could have added later, it boosts development by 30% I think with the only downside being longer construction times (but those are not really important anyway in my opinion) and lower control growth (which is also insignificant for a Tall playstyle).
    Looking forward to what you will do next. :) I am hoping for a new "save your disaster game" but I understand there might not be enough material available for you.

    Just played my first couple games with the new system, both as Norse rulers.
    One being a tall Iceland build (starting in 1066), mostly because I want the end date achievement and my other campaign started freezing around 1370. constantly, so this time, Iceland only, and I am not spreading my Dynasty. So far I have any been involved in two wars, one being against a peasant faction that took my land from my liege (the King of Norway hasn't been competent since Hardrada), and the second being an independence war.

    Agrarian is a stupidly generous tradition considering that all the other terrain types (except for oases) are either at ground level or in the negative when it comes to development bonuses. Its increase to man at arms should also apply to their monthly salaries, not just the one-off penalty of hiring cost which is laughably negligible considering one can raise farmlands in floodplains/farmlands.
    Yes, I'm a bit salty, since the culture I like playing is stationed in mountains and doesn't even start with a tradition negating the mountainous terrain development mallus.

    Bohemia is the most op tall country in the world. It is because of several things:
    1) You get the cultural tradition "industrious" from the get-go, that gives you +25 development every time you finish a building (also replacing counts). You can grind the development and get 100 dev in your capital in max. 100 years. You can get ahead in research and just keep on upgrading your buildings. That way you will have 100 dev. in any province of your main duchy of bohemia within 200 years. On Top you get ahead of time in research, the first time I finished all research like 25 years before next age could spawn. After that I finished all research 100y before the next age could spawn.
    2) You have one of the best duchies in game with 7 counties, one mine, capital duchy with 6 holdings, 2 more provinces with 6 holdings and a pretty small de jure kingdom. If you make Moravia part of your de-jure kingdom, you can hold these two duchies or give your heir the duchy of Moravia. It is important to have a small kingdom, because if you hold all titles yourself or give parts of it to your heir, your kingdom is save from factions. If you form Empires, you just need to have a strong main kingdom, give the other kingdoms to whoever you like. You alone will be stronger than all of them together.
    3) Because of being ahead of time in research, you will have the best man-at-arms units at any time, will be able to field the biggest amount of all countries, because no country can come close to a player in research. After 200 years you will have 8k man-at-arms with round about 40 knights and like 30-40k levies. The downside is, have less titles for a knights breeding farm, so I was always short of knights and was missing 5-10 knights quite often (to be fair, i quickle added the cultural tradition, where just guys with 12 or more prowess could become knights. Or and yes, this tradition reduces your levies by 25 percent, but I still had 35-40k levies with just bohemia and half of de-jure part of poland. But levies doesn't matter, because your 8k m-a-a and 30-40 knights will shred all armies.
    To be fair, India could be much stronger, because you get the elephant building in jungles, that give you extra knights, with what it is possible to field 70-100 knights after 100 years, but on a much bigger area.

    32:00 it actually matters, if your court is in top then you get to hire courtiers of different faiths and culture, not sure how it works, but it's super crazy to pick up the best traits and marry them with whoever you want them to. The court grandeur goes up quite fast if you pump up everything to 4/5, events will push it up and down so you might need 1-2 of 5/5. exotic food might cause some health issues on maximum, like getting gout ridden and making courtiers fat, also the 4/5 to 5/5 is actually costing too much for almost nothing.
    39:00 ahaha, those knights look sooo bad, do you even marry your courtiers? some of them were like 5-7 prowess, you could easily get better ones, it's almost bad that you got 16, they will just die and your court gets empty and baby vassals xD
    47:00 you can select neutral focus for your kids just don't do opposite focus, normally it's 50-50 with any guardian, and around 40-60 without guardian or without focus, but the maximum is around 66% yearly to pick up 2 points or 0. these points go randomly to any 5 but usually to kids or guardians focus.
    genius guardians are far better than others (there are some traditions that can make military traits to be inherited or guardians to be more effective but still) . you even got court tutors and other courtiers who you can use full time teaching random kids. the levels are 0-7-11-15 points to reach (aside base) for 1-2-3-4 star education, and the events are better too. but honestly 3 perks in kin are worth it, there is 10% fertility and then 2nd perk is better education then spouse care which is less childbirth deaths and health buff. Usually my genius girls die to that, and when I picked that up, it almost paid itself, I got the next renown level almost right away. Yesterday I checked, I had 9 points from the base, and still got lvl 4 education for a vassal kid, which is crazy. There is also a +30 marriage acceptance, which might be the best thing to pick up first and go to 200 dynasty members (maximum that gives renown) and make a kingdom for them, release as independent and the renown flows in then, no management needed, they will marry all around.

      is kin better than blood for general gameplay? i figure one of the two is the best in the game. though with kin and large dynasties i tend to have insane claimant faction problems, if literally any claimant exists vassals stop at nothing to screw over the player

    Great video! I'm still learning the game, I find myself constantly stuck not knowing what to do hehe. Like how do I take back domains, how do I earn prestige if it's really low and not rising. I have watched some of your videos now and they have been super helpful! :D So thanks so much for that.
    One thing that bothered me a bit in this video, is that the sound of your mic is quite distorted, so we can hear static or like a noise every time you speak (in the background). :)

    I really love playing as Pegu and then making Pagan yourself but with the objectively superior Ari religion as you get 3 holy sites in your de jure kingdom and high dev. And you can get Jungle Dwellers for 2k prestige which mitigates the fact that CK3 terrain modifiers just suck and there aren’t nearly enough flood plains and farmlands lol

    Keep up these great videos. Aldo i wish you would not skip soo soon from 1 to 4 counties. What have you done during that time, which tech you developed and why. What did you do with your spouce? Managment or Chilvalry or any other support or just "assist ruler" ? So many questions. Only at 9.15 minutes i see you developed the learning lifestyle very much, almost 100 years ingame have passed then. So, you did only the learning lifestyle, or did you also do some other perks?
    ps: first try; defeated by neigbourg on th eleft very early ingame. No chance to build up any extra forces. So, how do you beat that?

    you're editing is getting better, ik how cumbersome longer edits can be. I appreciate the effort you put into the vid man. Also; there's a crackling noise behind your mic because of how high the gain is? is that because you speak soft and have it cranked to catch your voice? if so maybe try dubbing over the audio in post so you don't have to speak so softly? just a thought. I love watching your vids! keep it up!

    SAO, sword art online xD Name a few kids Kirito xD
    I play as Jarl Dyre, again. They changed a few things and it's so confusing. Mainly it starts off with you being Sigurdr and not Oskyldr, and your father has around 3-4k army. So it will fluctuate a lot who is the house head. Which makes him pick up one of the norse perks for the family and if you don't hurry then the second too. The second line is okay, more prestige from wars or something, but since is a factorial increase, it will be slower to reach all the other ones. Also not sure if it was a bug or why, but I started it and I swapped houses somehow and my firstborn took the lands with a different house and a few kids so that run was ruined. You can restore inheritance and legitimize yourself if you get the house head but somehow I ended up as a bastard founder (I guess you inherit if your father dies and that blocks further inheritance) so it's a bit shaky start. Had to redo it as it was an update since and didn't wanted to mess around with the suboptimal heirs and 2 houses fighting.
    I was swapping for the Magyar culture, as it's a 4 county culture, with a single duchy that is a pseudo kingdom (yeah it's giving you the title of kingdom but it's not a kingdom), I did the lvl 4 prestige, Kiev as a capital then move to yedisan and make your vassals convert to local tradition means all norse converts both faith and religion, it was intended to go Russian, Slovaskian pravda but you can do Magyar, taltosist too, just get all norse vassals. The development in Kiev is crazy, and easily goes up to 20-30 if pushed, and also helps with the research, around 1000 should be done easily. First I wanted to pick up a 7k tradition, and I didn't realize diverging is so good, but then I found out that I can divorcé my wife over and over for 1200 prestige gain which is kind of crazy exploit. I looked at traditions and the best ones seem to be industrialist, horse trainers (not the same as horse owners but stacks nicely with cheaper horse archers and cheaper maintenance). Then you could choose either hills or wetland (ruthenia/chernigov is actually one of the first cities and it's all wetland but almost nowhere else in europe). There are other good ones like more often holding feasts and hunt or military buffs, so much good ones to choose from. One interesting one is going for culture merge debuffs, for 0.3 control increase, which is actually good so others won't take your culture or merge it if you don't want to. The other exploit is to marry the northman army heir then kill him to inherit like 600 maa for them, they even retain a bit of special units. They knock out some weak vassals from their lands, they normally target ukraine, so this isn't possible elsewhere, and fighting them is not the best.
