Hey everyone! Starting off 2022 with a history of punk bass lines video! What is your favorite punk bass line? Let me know in the comments :)
Favorite bass line? Uhhh Bring out your dead - Anti-Flag and every bass line by Matt Freeman
Not a bass line entirely, but all of maxwell murder by rancid is such a legendary song for the bass, such a great solo and such a good track.
stuart and the avenue- green day
Stuck with me Green Day
Literally anything off of Descendents' discography is my favourite bass line
At 0:53 it's supposed to be Straight Edge by Minor Threat. This was pointed out to me kindly in the comments. Thanks!
It was also released in 1981 although on Spotify it’s on a compilation of their first 2 singles released in 1984 so understandable mistake.
Great work! This has made me want to pick up my old Fender again and play through some of these bass lines that I’ve not touched in years!
I love how you put Longview in 1992. A real Green Day fan 😄
Thats why he isnt punk
@@tg4018 and who are you to tell who is punk and who is not. That's probably one of the worst things a "punk" can do
Wait I thought it was only welcome to paradise that was on kerplunk
@@somerandomguy4760 longview wasnt on kerplunk but they played it for the first time in 1992
@@arnelinsomniac oh
Peter Hook will forever be my favorite punk bassist and “Love Will Tear Us Apart” is my favorite bass line ever. Joy Division’s (and even early New Order’s) sounds were defined by the bass playing the melody.
his riff on transmission is just magic
History of punk, but nothing by Matt Freeman? Probably the best bassist in punk history. No Operation Ivy or Rancid, come on man. Can't have a history of punk bass without Matt
Freeman's middle 8 from "Maxwell Murder", "Dope Sick Girl", or "Journey The End Of The Bay" come to mind...
I came here to say just that. Rancid was notably missing from this video, not that I'm really surprised lol.
“come on man” 🤓
Not gonna underestimate the man’s abilities but for the sake of his hands it might have been a good idea to not include any Matt Freeman
Hyena... Salvation...Radio
My goodness this is just awesome! Punk bass always gives that "spice" in a song, wish someday I'll learn to play bass.
Ps: the look in your face when playing "good 4 u" is just priceless
Good 4 U.
hell yes especially when its a 3 piece band
Definitely missing Matt Freeman on this. How did "Journey to the end of east bay" not make the cut?
Right? And/or, Maxwell Murder, Poison, Intimate Close Up of a Street Punk Troublemaker, L.A. River, It's Quite Alright...It's a long list
Radio is one of my favorites of his
Journey to the end of the east bay would've been awesome to hear on this list
Journey to the end of east coast
the transplants
1989
here to say the same
Good playing there! I am an old punk rocker from Chicago, and some of the bands that I've seen are Ramones, The Clash, Bad Brains, Living Color, Buzzcocks, and Husker Du!
punk definitely has some of the coolest bass riffs of all time
Great tone! gives me a few new songs to learn too!
Amazing! Loved Carousel 🔥🔥🔥
The look on your face when u did good 4 u, you probably not amused when playing that riff.
That DK riff is so badass!! 🤘🏼
So glad CZcams chucked this video at me, I’ve always loved carousel by blink but literally never thought of learning to play it. So rad
great stuff friend!!! you've inspired me to keep practicing, plus you reminded me how much i love Carousel!!
You legit played all my fave songs lol. Love this 🥰
Hey man, killer video and your sound is killer as well. But you may be interested in knowing that Klause Fluoride wrote that baseline for holiday in Cambodia way back in 1977
YES 👍🏻
Nice list of songs, Man! Good playing!!!
Thanks Eric! Appreciate the kind words
you can hear each unique sound so clearly differentiated
Brings back some memories, and some new ones!!
Omg yasss this was so fun to watch!!
Really enjoy your videos! You should throw some AFI in there from time to time. Their first 2 albums had insane bass lines
Such a cool video! I love it! How fun.
You forgot Rancid man Freeman is a hell of a basa player
I know. I was hoping to hear the Maxwell Murder solo.
Your video is excellent, the way you play too, the songs played too, but it needs matt freeman songs too.
a history of punk guitar/drum lines would be super cool! much love d swish
Anti-Flag and Rise Against!! Awesome!!! Great video
AWESOME!
Greetings from Argentina! Punk not dead
Greetings 🤘
It’s just taking a nap
Fua, no sabia que habian mas argentinos por estos lugares

Myage was a nice pull, great video.
so glad tou included descendents and greenday
Punk bass is super, mega fun!
Great video~~
Great dude!!
Lets Jam!
Wow Swisher. That sure was Sweet
Sounds killer! I love this video
Thank you!
Matt Freemannnnnnnnn
Your tone sounds great.
Legend for putting myage and six pack!
Keep up bro.i wish you going to be big youtuber someday.god bless you
Good to see you put some minuetmen in! Such an underrated band
Thanks for adding sum 41 my favorite song by them
I got that same bass. Need to pull it out and play it.
the transition between six pack and myage was soooo smooth
cool video, cool songs and even cooler playing! kinda wish there were more non-american songs on this list though, as by my count there was only one (that being the clash), in fairness the UK punk explosion was what, 2-3 years (77-79) if you wanna stretch it to include early post-punk? so there wouldn't be much room to fit many songs from that era, but it still would've been cool to see i think! bands like the saints, stiff little fingers, the damned, buzzcocks etc etc yadayadayada
Love ur bass tone
I believe the Minor Threat song is Straight Edge by Minor Threat, but this is a great video regardless!
Great catch! I do mix songs up sometimes but I will make a comment about that thanks
That's a really nice tone.
What a great sounding bass. 👏
That's the punk bass sound. 🤘🤘🤘
Daniel: makes a bass video
Longview: hello there
awesome! stylish!
Very cool collection of p rock'n bass. Some bass faves are Agent Orange "everything turns grey", Youth Brigade "who can you believe in", Buzzcocks "hollow inside".
Cool video
Quick correction holiday in Cambodia was actually written in 1978 i’m going to assume you heard the song on the give me convenience or give me death comp. But props for you for including the song one of my faves🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Sweet shirt!
Good solid chops . Btw for those who maybe interested this exact bass is on sale at G.C. now for 599.99 before tax . Definitely the right bass for this style and then some .
Great picks all around disappointed by lack of waiting room tho
Cool
How about some early Damned like "Neat,Neat, Neat", or "New Rose"?
Great to see Minutemen in there. Mike Watt is a beast and super influential, and I was wondering if you would still play with a pick if you played a Watt riff
I will always love The holiday in Cambodia riff
Great
I'm getting the feeling you're not a big Olivia Rodrigo fan. That stare xD
It was a cool video and your bass sounds great. You might of forgot about Rancid but you got Bad Religion in there..
Sick video, I personally love David schulthise from the dead milkmen
Oh sweet thank you for including decendents because they have a lot to do with punk and there very underrated
People dont give punk bassists credit
Tony Lombardo of The Descendents is an amazing bassist, just phenomenal.
Matt FUCKING Freeman
@@jarcophagus bro the bass in One more Day and I’m the One
@@zachl9260 oh oops
@@jarcophagus wym oops?
Definitely give Mike Watt & Matt Freeman a whirl. I'd say that the majority of the bass lines post 91 are likely attributed to those two.
I'm glad to see some hardcore punk usually I never see any of those in these types of videos.
Hell yeah! Awesome bass! Doesn't matter the time, Punk bass always sounds awesome!
Sticking in my eye was hella hard!!! 👍👌
Nice Fender
great job friend, probably shouldve included Rancid tho
Oops! There's no London Dungeon...😔
this is tempting me to buy a bass
Joe Principe is my favorite (Rise Against, 88 Fingers Louie)
I know most won’t know what I’m talking about but shoulda put some MXPX in there as well. Left coast punk rawk! Most underrated punk band of all time.
REALLY close on Stickin' in my Eye!
1987???
"Holiday in Cambodia" is the second single released by the DKs in May 1980 by Optional Music with "Police Truck" as the B-side.
Didnt expect Neck Deep to be here :o
I now want to pick my Bass back up. It’s literally two feet next to me right now.
As I
Lay in bed watching this video in amazement!
Can’t tell if you left a Karl Alvarez off the list because you didn’t think to, or because you’re scared.
But seriously awesome video I love you.
pulling off that nofx bassline takes some skill. it’s a difficult bass line to learn. way cool dood!
just wanted to say that Green Day is a 90s/2000s punk band, yet unlike other punk bands from that time period, Green Day sounds very much like classic 70s punk like the Ramones!
Green Day took the Ramones instrumental formula and threw in some of the most cheesy self-loathing lyrics. Sorry Billie but I don't have the time to listen to you whine.
The awesome punk rock guy
Nofx❤️❤️
Love carousel
Holiday in Cambodia is from 1979 but was released on a record on 1980 but still sick you included it and I love your playing man
HAHA nice one with the last song
Carousel 🤟
Daniel, you're back!
How are you doing mate
Good James! How are you and how goes the metal stuff?
His face at the end 🤣
I WAS GONNA SAY, WHY ISN'T ANYONE TALKING ABOUT THAT?! 😂
Should've had some RKL in there, they had the best bass of any band
They’re basically what started the funky punk bass
Not a punk fan so I know like basically none of these songs but the stickin in my eye riff is super cool and unique sounding
Fat Mike is a crazy bassist. He’s always had his own very unique sound.
Rise Against! Fuck yes
Awesome. What was your gear recording it, to get this great Sound?
Great video, but holiday in cambodia is from 1979 not 87
Are you using overdrive, cause if you are that’s sick🤘
this was fantastic. i expected to hear some progression..... but yea punk is all over the place.
SST making History!
