- After a full week of using the Lenovo Ideapad 5i Pro it's time for my full review. I really enjoy this laptop but there are also some weaknesses of it and I have a bit of a hard time to place it for my use cases, and the mix of them. I'm trying to cover as many aspects as possible of the laptop so you can get an as in depth insight into it as possible.

Detailed and objective review! I'm excited to watch this review.
Thank you! Glad you like the style!

@@DigitalDesignET thank you so much! :)
Amazing review, as always! Thank you for covering this laptop in your recent videos, at the end you talked about a "tiny segment of laptop market", well that segment is the one lot's of us like, so big thanks to you for covering it!!! This just made me even more sure that this is the laptop I want, and I will wait for it as long as needed. I just hope it doesn't take months... common Lenovo, time to supply them to the rest of Europe 😎
Thank you! I agree completely. There's a very specific type of laptop i really enjoy and i realize there are a lot more people looking for the same.
Great video, especially mentioning the alternatives was really helpful
Thanks! I don't always do that but I appreciate you say it's good. I'll try including that next review too. :)
What a great reveiw! Thank you.
Hey man love your reviews, because of your review of the yoga slim 7 Pro just ordered mine in the UK!
Thank you! Yoga Slim 7 pro is amazing! I really enjoy using it!
This is... AMAZING REVIEW!
Great review sir. I'm pretty sure this is going to be my next daily driver. Thank you.
Glad to be able to help you out on this!
So very informative. Thank you!
Glad you like it!!
Great review!!!
Very thorough review
Thank you! That's what i aim for!
Thank you very much u solved my laptop choice issues
What did you decide on? :D
@@w2best yoga slim pro intel i5 mx450 but very expensive $1500usd
Nice review, as always. I like your statement at the end "this tiny segment of laptop market" (or something to that effect)... well, that segment seems to be largely ignored by many other youtube channels. They either go for the premium products, the price of which are way beyond my budget, or the budget products that sacrifice some features to get to that price. I learned about the Yoga Slim 7 from your channel, bought that laptop, and am very happy with it. So, keep it up... the segment may be small, but should not be ignored.
Btw, exactly how warm was the ambient temperature? 30+ degrees Celcius?
Thank you! I totally agree! Ambient temperature here was around 30 degrees but my first test session was in AC 22 degrees and it was actually as bad... Very hot to the touch.
Great video, i have a question did you run the benchmarks and games on the high performance profile or was it in intelligent cooling? Because the temperatures seem too much in my opinion
You did an amazing and thorough job at this review. I am considering buying this laptop (the AMD version), because I would like a sturdy laptop, that doesn't overheat, for both productivity (office, data analysis) and entertainment purposes (movies).
I am hung up on the backlight bleeding situation. I have never seen that in a laptop display before. Does the light bleeding affect movie viewing experience? Is it noticeable when watching videos on full screen and/or in darker areas?
I am very concerned about the high temperatures too... did the AMD version run very hot too?
Excellent review. I'm convinced I'm going to buy one, although it's obviously the AMD version that is the best choice, with better performance and better battery life.
It is, but it's not available for yet another long time. At least here in the Nordic region.
Yay amd better rendering times by 3 seconds
#better performance
Hey, amazing review. One quick question, when you did your battery tests, were you on 120hz? Do you think decreasing it to 60hz would increase the battery life?
Battery test was made in 120hz. From testing the yoga Slim 7 pro i didn't see that much difference. The screen brightness makes the biggest difference...
Which brand's wifi card in present inthis laptop??
Lenovo idea pad 5 or dell inspiron 3511 which laptop is good in build quality and performance this week I'm going to buy please suggest me the best laptop
One more thing, can it run external monitor with discrete GPU disabled?
What about fan noise while gaming and does this support Legion Fan Control software? Thanks.
Thank you for the review! The poor upgradability makes this one a tough choice. The screen seems very nice, but the fact that you cant buy a 2nd SSD and have a cheap upgrade is so poor.
yea the numpad light is super annoying, i am glad you mentioned it and hopefully lenovo is listening !
I hope so too. I can see the reason for it but it's not nice at all...
I purchased the dell inspiron 7590 i7 (upgraded 16gb ram) - thanks to your guides and reviews. Thank you so much :) How's your going? I'd love to see a 2 year review of yours
I wanted to upgrade it to 64gb ram but couldn't get it to work. Except that it's going great! 2 year review might happen. :P
@@w2best Thanks for your response! I credit you for highlighting the form factor and large battery which is absolutely great... Thanks for the reviews and I'll keep watching every video down here from Melbourne Australia :)
Lenovo IdeaPad slim 5i pro i5 11 th generation 16 gb ram is better Compared to i7 11th generation 8gb ram? Which is better sir?
This one or slim 5 pro ryzen 7 5800h??
What color model is this?
The screen wobble is coming from the hinge position. Unfortunately almost every laptop with this hinge format is suffering from that wobbe
Is this better than ryzen 5 5600h and amd Vega 6 graphics
I found the same laptop for 700 dollars but it's only 8gb ram.is ot worth it?
Nice review!
Does this laptop support 4k at 60Hz on the external monitor?
It supports 4k 60hz by using the thunderbolt the hdmi supports 1080p 120 or 4k 30
Hi, i have just one question, the keyboard backlight does it have a timeout (off after 30 seconds on idle) ? Thanks for the answer.
Hmm I don't remember this. I was never disturbed by the backlight except the one in the num lock button...
Is deltaE known for the laptop's display? I do some amateur photo editing (though I got a pretty decent camera) and wonder if this display is enough for this purpose. Thanks!
Watch JustJosh's review. He did teat the colour accuracy
Hi. For use with photoshop, lightroom and some game (god of war,...), between these two laptop, which is the best:
1) LENOVO Ideapad Pro 5i Intel i5 13500h, lppdr 16gb 5200hz, rtx 3050 6gb
or
2) LENOVO Ideapad Pro 5 AMD Ryzen 5 7640hs, lppdrx 16gb 6400hz, rtx 3050 6gb

as u mentioned before that u have used yoga slim 7 for sometime as ur main Laptop ......so have u faced any hinge problems like that in yoga c740 as I intend to buy one ???
and if u have to pick between yoga slim 7 vs yoga S730 which one u will prefer ???
I can't decide the ryzen 5 5600h 8gb ram ideapad 5 pro 16. For 600 dollars Or
The same one u have ideapad proi. 16 also 8gb ram for 700 dollars

great review! Thank you! If you are not tied to Thunderbolt dock, the AMD variant of this laptop is a better choice. In some markets, Ideapad 5 Pro 16 has an 8 core R7-5800H, with GTX 1650 or even a RTX 3050 (55W). A lot of video decoding and CUDA stuff only exists in GTX/RTX product lines, not in the MX series.
I agree. However the Amd version is nowhere to be found in the foreseeable future...
I can only find the AMD version here in Denmark
@@jakob_m does either version have the fingerprint scanner?
@@livinglegendmusic I'm not sure unfortunately
@@jakob_m i orderd one. it doesnt. Great content btw!
Great in-depth review. This laptop has a lot to improve. I understand Lenovo and other firms, to build slim laptops, it saves costs, weight and material. Also it looks good, like a other "Pro"-Laptops in the region of the macbook air. But a "Pro"-Laptop needs other goods inside. First the temps to high, the actual Intel-Cpus (here only i5, good luck with i7) and together in this thin case and the not so stressful MX450 (also with gtx 1650 or rtx 3050) you reach to high temps. Yes the Intel-graphic-drivers are not really well, but the solution should not be: ... ok lets put some Nvidia-card inside. :)
Maybe the case is build for the AMD-Version, so i think the cooling solution is not really right chosen for the Intel-CPus. Here you must drill some extra holes in the case and use it on a cooling stand. "Pro"-Laptops without an extra SSD slot for maybe an extra 2TB drive? No 32gb RAM upgrade? ...hmmm....
So Pro is the screen, good to see some innovations from Lenovo with all this 16:9 200cd TN-Panels since 2009 and i wait for the AMD-5600 (the 5800 is maybe too much for this "Pro"-machine) version without Nvidia, it should be 5°C-8°C cooler and so the laptop and the SSD inside should live longer.
ps: In Germany there are first user comments to the 5800/gtx1650/16gb/512gb-SSD combi: fans starting really quick and are mostly running ...
I agree on pretty much all your points. This is exactly how I feel about it.
1st xD. You make the best reviews with so many details explained.
Thank you! I really try to cover as much as possible!
why is the left shift key different? is it only in ur country? also the enter key
Yes. That's The Nordic keyboard layout.
Anyone know where to get the lenovo wallpaper featured here and on the slim 7 pro review?
It's the standard Lenovo wallpaper. I can probably send it to you. :)
@@w2best I got my slim7 from china so had to reinstall windows. I cannot seem to find that wallpaper online. If you can upload somewhere it would be appreciated.
Watched your videos for both 14” and 16”… did not find if both have the same audio quality… 14” was good, how about the 16” compared to the 14”?
I don't get it, so you can't connect this laptop to 2 monitors? Like HDMI to 1 and Th4 to 2nd display?
You can. And you can daisy chain from the 1 thunderbolt port as well. But you can't power and send monitor signal to two monitors because there's only monitor signal in one usb c port. That's my specific use case.
Is this laptop silent in standby, or when doing low power tasks such as browsing?
Yes i found out pretty silent at idle! Also not too loud at load but very very hot.
It's a wonderful review. I thought of buying lenovo ideapad 5i pro 16" laptop - 82l9006dus, but after seeing your review, I have decided to drop the idea as it is not meeting your 3 usecases which same as mine. Could you please advice a laptop for CAD design works under 1000$?
Thanks a lot! I would have a look at Dell Inspiron that I enjoy a lot! There are some problems with it but the value for money is great.
Great review. I am planning to buy Ryzen 5800H version although I am a little anxious about the temperatures. Do you think the AMD version without dedicated graphics could be cooler than Intel with mx450? Also, how is the battery life compared to regular yoga slim 7 amd version?
I think the 5800h will run cooler for sure. The regular yoga slim 7 with Amd has the best battery life I've experienced so far at around 12-14h So it's hard to compare...
I have just got AMD version for my son with following specs..
Lenovo IdeaPad 5 Pro Grey (PREINSTALLED HOME & STUDENT)
- R7-5800U
- 16GB D4 RAM
- 1TB PCIe SSD
- NVidia GTX1650 4GB
- 16"WQXGA 120Hz
- 2 YRS PREM
- 2kg
- Battery life 10 hour normal use
I must say the screen is the best part and overall performance is excellent.. but if u rin games, it does get hot especially in mid of keyboard but not very hot.. he plays league of legends and geometry dash so i guess not that heavy load as AAA games.. overall a very good buy in my opinion
@@varundogar2160 hmm, 10 hours seems like a very good result. Do you have 120hz screen? The one I ordered is 60hz and igpu, and I guess it will consume even less energy, hence will have better battery life.
Hello, first charge on lenovo how many hrs need. 24hrs or? Please answer
Can't see why you'd need more then just filling the battery!
Do you have any information about when will this laptop will pump in markets?
No not at all. It's pretty widely available in Scandinavia right now though.

Do they run 4k external? How about the AMD version? Ty!
With displayport yes. With hdmi 1,4 it's limited but should still be possible at 30hz.
I got the AMD R5 version with RTX 3050, and this thing is hot. Screen is really great, keyboard as well. But during normals tasks, my cpu is around 52° -65° degrees, and 78°-88° when playinf Valorant. I don't think this is acceptable, but will this affect my laptop in the long term, in what way?
78-88 sounds pretty normal. I wouldn't be worried at all. The idle temps sound a little high though. Those temps will not affect the laptop long term.
@@w2best thanks!
Here in the Philippines, they just released the Ideapad 5 Pro with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with 4GB RTX3050. Is it better than the Intel Ideapad 5i Pro with Intel I5-11300H with 2GB MX450?
Of course. It's a lot better. I wouldn't even look at the Intel model in comparison.

Hey man I need your help, I just bought the intel model with mx450 graphics and all the four cores heat up to 60 degrees celsius while surfing web, zoom with the gpu turned off. Is it a product defect or is the intel model just like that?
I have the same problem. 1-2 min in games and 80-90 temp on cpu (99-100 at peak)
@@dominiks463 do you run your games on high performance profile? Because I'm interested in this laptop but I'm only worried about high temperatures did you find a way to reduce core temps?
@@masterbowler6454 no and no :/ the temperature was only lower when I played games that require less cpu. Now I turned off nvidia gpu at all. I use linux because I have lower temperatures and less problems with drivers. It is too thin and therefore not suitable for playing. Laptops designed for gaming have much better cooling.
@@dominiks463 i think high performance profile makes the fans spin faster at least that's what i read online, maybe you should try it too
@@masterbowler6454 I've tried everything. I changed bios settings, installed all drivers, uninstalled some and let windows install them. I wrote to Lenovo that they told me to return laptop. In the end, I did not do it because it works well even at such high temperatures and I play games sporadically. I'm just a little worried about how long it will run at these temperatures. On linux, the maximum temperature I have seen is ~ 92 C. temperatures only decreased on the bios energy saving setting, but unfortunately the device is noticeably slower; big battery, light, fine keyboard and screen, good device but not for gaming

Thunderbolt4 gives you 2x 4K @ 60 Hz. So I f you get a Thunderbolt4-split/hub/dock I guess you can have 2 external displays at 4K 60hz (?)
For sure! That's how i do in the office as you can see in the video. But my portable setup is two monitors that need both power and monitor signal from thunderbolt and then Daisy chain or dock is not a working option.

1. I think for a long time and do not know what to choose 14 inches or 16, what to choose for home, for watching videos, movies, does 14 look somehow more compact?
2. Is 16 '' comfortable to carry?
3. Which is better 16: 10 or 16: 9?

For watching videos at home i would def prefer 16". 14 inch is better for portability. 16" weighs around 2kg. For me it's quite ok. For video i think 16:9 is great. For everything else 16:10 is preferable.
