  • Sea Shepherd's Apex Harmony crew found two rare Japanese Devilrays in one shark net 100m apart from one another at Miami Beach on the Gold Coast - one had two large bites from a shark, proving that catches attract sharks to the area.

This goes to show that somebody must care enough to actually go out there and actually see what's really going on. Thank you, Sea Shepherd

I hope Sea Shepherd starts a new campaign to stop cruel Shark net by Australia and brutal slaughter of endangered dugongs and sea turtles. Australia is not safe for marine creatures, including dolphins and whales.

+Vreede Anna Painfully no marine area is safe for marine creatures Vreeda,
due to your astute observation regarding slaughter & species, marine entanglement. Sea Shepherd is
doing a stellar job in fanning out
to most endangered areas to prevent this horrid act of humanity,.

It is well known by US Australian citizens that our government has these counterproductive shark nets set up around the coastlines. The theory was that they would prevent sharks from coming to shore and attacking swimming people. In practice, it does the opposite. There are still plenty of sharks that get past the nets, and the nets basically just ensnare hundreds of dolphins, sea turtles and grey nurse sharks (harmless), which then are just free food, and the sharks are therefore attracted to the coastlines by all the free food, whereas if they weren't there, they may just continue swimming past. I wouldn't be surprised if this is Australia.
It has been argued that shark nets are ineffective and counterproductive to deterring sharks from the shorelines, yet we still haven't gotten rid of them. They don't span 100% of coastlines, so sharks can just swim in-between to get inside etc. Worse idea than canetoads, but just as ineffective and counterproductive considering the goal. Sadly, I believe this is in Australia.
